The Social Business Shift: What Businesses Have to Do [Infographic] | New media marketing and communications | Scoop.it
Is it about having your brand on Twitter or Facebook? Is it about private social networks?
Certainly, these all play a part. But what social business is truly about a “shift”, a move from enterprises attempting insulate itself from disruption and instead greeting it warmly.

To pull this off, organizations need to establish a more transparent environment, both externally and internally. A social business allows organizations to better solicit and understand customer feedback, to react in real-time to industry changes; it allows communication to go from a top-down model to a back-and-forth, up-down strategy.

The social business shift is leading to a social business economy...

Kavish Lal's curator insight, May 15, 12:21 AM

Pretty Little Liars’ TV series was awarded as the most social tv show 2013 due to its signifcant engagement online on Twitter and Instagram. Using social networks like Twitter and its hashtags, to interact with a television program is called “social TV”. It involves the use of a second device in addition to the television. In relation to IMC, the viral and collaborative nature of social media and television provides brands with the ability to build brand authenticity and loyalty among users. Thus social media allow brands to refine their segmentation strategy by reaching a narrow target audience through television and vice versa.

The Science of Storytelling

The Science of Storytelling | New media marketing and communications | Scoop.it

Many studies show us that our brains prefer storytelling to facts. When we read facts, only the language parts of our brains work to understand the meaning. When we read a story, the language parts of our brains and any other part of the brain that we would use if we were actually experiencing what we’re reading, light up.This means that it’s easier for us to remember stories than facts. Our brains can't make major distinctions between a story we’re reading about and something we are actually doing....

I've been talking about these ideas in my workshops for quite a while now.  We are hardwired for story.  It's one, if not a significant reason for our "success" as a species.  It's also one of the incredible frustrations of our times.   That science and facts yield the field to the fiction of prevarication and conspiracy is a tragedy.

Why Content Marketing Fails (and what to do about it).

By Moz Rand Fishkin.

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, June 9, 4:34 PM

This is a very dense deck by Moz founder Rand Fishkin but it's probably worth reading a few times.

The first point he makes is really about how to set the expectations - and therefore the KPI's right. As Barry Feldman recently pointed out, this is indeed critical and a good idea is to look at subscription/lead generation rather than direct sales.

But he also makes interesting points on the roles of community management and amplification.

To fly, your content needs to be designed to resonate with a community. But that's not enough: you also need to work on the mechanics of amplification which can come from social, 1:1 or SEO.

This brings back the necessity of having a solid content hub in place for your content marketing: one where your target audience can not only easily read all of your content, but also reshare from it and land on through SEO or email newsletters.
