Bildende Kunst - Kunstwelt - Goethe-Institut  | [New] Media Art Education & Research | Scoop.it
Monika Fleischmann's insight:

Ausstellungen:
„Generation i.2 - Ästhetik des Digitalen im 21. Jahrhundert“, Edith-Russ-Haus Oldenburg, 15. November 2013 bis 16. Februar 2014

„World of Matter“, Hartware Medienkunst-Verein Dortmund, 1. März bis 22. Juni 2014

Monika Fleischmann's insight:

Kimko =Kunstprofil Intermediale Kommunikation.

Monika Fleischmann's insight:

The School of Media and Audiovisual Culture at the University of Łódź and the New Media PRL Project

invite you to an International Conference onNew Media Histories/Historie Nowych MediówŁódź, 16 – 18 October 2014

Theme and Scope

Until recently researchers interested in new media have been fascinated by their novelty. As new media grow older they become objects of historical reflection. This perspective helps rediscover and preserve dead media and obsolete media practices which for various reasons have disappeared from the mainstream of media development. It also allows for theoretical reflection on the changing definitions of new media, on their historiography, and on the dynamically mutating, yet amnesic category of “novelty”.

Historical perspective in the research of new media has also an important practical dimension for museums, galleries and other institutions, forming theoretical framework for preserving new media as a part of cultural heritage.

Another area of historical research is the relation between new media and the social and political situation in which they were created and adopted. This is especially significant in the Central European context as the birth of new media coincides with the political transformation here.

Software Takes Command (volume 5) - Lev Manovich... ebook to read online

Software has replaced a diverse array of physical, mechanical, and electronic technologies used before 21st century to create, store, distribute and interact with cultural artifacts. It has become our interface to the world, to others, to our memory and our imagination - a universal language through which the world speaks, and a universal engine on which the world runs. What electricity and combustion engine were to the early 20th century, software is to the early 21st century. Offering the the first theoretical and historical account of software for media authoring and its effects on the practice and the very concept of 'media,' the author of The Language of New Media (2001) develops his own theory for this rapidly-growing, always-changing field.

Big Data is the new Artificial Intelligence

Big Data is the new Artificial Intelligence | [New] Media Art Education & Research | Scoop.it

This is the first of a couple columns about a growing trend in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it is likely to be integrated in our culture. Computerworld ran an interesting overview article on the subject yesterday that got me thinking not only about where this technology is going but how it is likely to affect us not just as a people. but as individuals. How is AI likely to affect me? The answer is scary.

Kunstgeschichte - Beispielaufgabe Schwerpunkt Afrika

Bob Adrian, Inke Arns, Giselle Beiguelman, Josephine Bosma, Annick Bureaud, Wendy Coones, Nina Czegledy, Oliver Grau, Heidi Grundmann, Lev Manovich, Matthias Michalka. Gestaltung: Armin Medosch

Change: 19 Key Essays on How the Internet Is Changing Our Lives - OpenMind

Change: 19 Key Essays on How the Internet Is Changing Our Lives - OpenMind | [New] Media Art Education & Research | Scoop.it
Change: 19 Key Essays on How the Internet Is Changing Our Lives, is the sixth issue of BBVA’s annual series devoted to explore the key issues of our time. This year, our chosen theme is the Internet, the single most powerful vector of change in recent history. In the words of Arthur C Clarke, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” The swiftness and reach of the changes wrought by the Internet indeed have a touch of magic about them.
As a tool available to a reasonably wide public, the Internet is only twenty years old, but it is already the fundamental catalyst of the broadest based and fastest technological revolution in history. It is the broadest based because over the past two decades its effects have touched upon practically every citizen in the world. And it is the fastest because its mass adoption is swifter than that of any earlier technology. To put this into perspective – it was only 70 years after the invention of the aeroplane that 100 million people travelled by air; it took 50 years after the invention of the telephone for 100 million people to use this form of communication. The 100-million user mark was achieved by PCs after 14 years. The Internet made 100 million users after just 7 years. The cycles of adoption of Internet-related technologies are even shorter – Facebook acquired 100 million users in 2 years. It is impossible today to imagine the world without the Internet: it enables us to do things which only a few years ago would be unthinkable, and impinges on every sphere of our lives.
