Advent of Google means we must rethink our approach to education

Advent of Google means we must rethink our approach to education | New learning | Scoop.it

Teaching in an environment where the internet and discussion are allowed in exams would be different. The ability to find things out quickly and accurately would become the predominant skill. The ability to discriminate between alternatives, then put facts together to solve problems would be critical. AThat's a skill that future employers would admire immensely.

William Hanna's curator insight, June 18, 8:25 AM

Wow!  Allowing internet access and discussion during exams???  As bizarre as it sounds, I think it's awesome!  Instead of teaching our kids to memorize everything, we could teach them to THINK!  A good thing indeed.

Jacqui Cooper's curator insight, June 18, 11:14 AM

Well as employers in the UK (and I suspect elsewhere) are complaining about students leaving school without the right skills, the schools should be looking at this seriously.

Implementing some kind of self-assessment is a very good thing, as it enables learners to judge the quality of their work. I’ve done this on an ad-hoc basis at times in the past, but using a formal instrument or procedure can work wonders, even if it has no official bearing on the final outcome.

The 4 Stages of Technology Integration in Education [Infographic] | New learning | Scoop.it

Via Gust MEES
Sharla Shults's curator insight, May 4, 1:26 PM

Integrating technology in your teaching requires beforehand planning and structuring. It also predisposes the existence of a set of learning goals you  want to achieve through the integration of this technology in the class. So, the process is highly structured and pre-arranged and nothing is left for " happy accidents ".

Amanda Rogers's comment, May 4, 6:11 PM
This is a great tool to refer to for integrating technology into lessons whilst encorporating learning goals and allowing for HOT. It is well structured and prevents lesving steps out.
Kia Sowden's comment, May 11, 1:01 AM
I think many teachers struggle to truly integrate technology into their classrooms. I believe their is the common misconception that if you are 'using' technology you are integrating it into your teaching and learning. However there is a difference between the two.
