And if the poster uses the command, "Retweet" rather than "RT", the retweet rate increases twelve-fold...! Remember, less than 100 chars means +17% engagement, too. More than 2 +hashtags reduces this again by 17%!

Am I Imagining This? | New learning | Scoop.it
The truth under siege: 2+2 does not equal 5.
Paul's insight:

From New York Times - Sometimes I try to imagine what Trump’s Reichstag fire moment might be. In February 1933, a few weeks after Hitler became chancellor, fire engulfed the parliament in Berlin — an act of arson whose origin is still unclear. A recent New Yorker article by George Prochnik quoted the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig on Hitler’s savage reaction: “At one blow all of justice in Germany was smashed.” What will be America's Reichstag Fire?

Paul's insight:

"The real wealth of the Nation lies in the resources of the earth — soil, water, forests, minerals, and wildlife. To utilize them for present needs while insuring their preservation for future generations requires a delicately balanced and continuing program, based on the most extensive research. Their administration is not properly, and cannot be, a matter of politics.

By long tradition, the agencies responsible for these resources have been directed by men of professional stature and experience, who have understood, respected, and been guided by the findings of their scientists."

Paul's insight:

How long will we have to act before Trump's own version of the Reichstag Fire? (from article)  "That fateful conflagration took place less than thirty days after Hitler became Chancellor. The excruciating power of Zweig’s memoir lies in the pain of looking back and seeing that there was a small window in which it was possible to act, and then discovering how suddenly and irrevocably that window can be slammed shut."

New leaders have a great deal to learn.

Confucius once said, “By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”

Every new leader would be wise to take the necessary steps to gain as much wisdom as possible without having to endure the bitterness of wrong decisions.

Totally agree with what you are writing about. Here in Ontario, we seem to be obsessed with math scores to the exclusion of everything else. We are chained to EQAO result (standardized testing), and we have lost the ability to innovate or think outside the box.

We are missing the boat in several key areas and the 10 Building Blocks is a good place to start from when we are looking to have meaningful conversations about change.
