By adding blogs to a flipped ELA class, teachers present literacy as a design challenge where words, images, and format serve to express students' ideas.

Paul's insight:

Great response from Amber Teamann "The most important thing a school leader can do to support curriculum innovation (or ANY innovation) is to get into the "say yes" mindset. If there is a safety concern, then say no, but otherwise get in the habit of saying yes. If your building feels they can come to you with an out of the box idea, and you are going to support it, then you will begin to see little bursts of innovation & that spark will catch fire and SPREAD."

Paul's insight:

"We live in a world where technology has provided instant access at our fingertips. I want my students to know how to take charge of their own learning in ways generations before them were not able to. Previous generations used traditional textbooks and atlases that could not be updated until the next adoption and publication. It was impossible for them to stay up-to-date with current events and they were not designed to be interactive, either."

I agree with the point about overlooking teachers as a source of theoretical understanding about their own pedagogy. Fullan might feel he encourages policy makers and local school districts to use teachers as leaders. It isn't happening.

I am concerned about the use of catch phrases i.e. deep pedagogy and deep learning in this case. What do they mean in the day-to-day practice of teaching and learning?
