Lots of very interesting comments, the trends gated by acceptance, and use within the educational community and the " permission" or purchases within the schools.
Laura Starace's comment, June 3, 2013 3:22 AM
I am also surprised 15% have no interests in using whiteboards though, not all schools have the chance or "permission" as already mentioned to use it or implement it

Using technology in education is incredibly important today...but we must remember WHY we want our students using these tools and not accidentally make the tool itself the objective.

Pamela Hall's curator insight, August 22, 2013 10:20 AM

This theme carries over to the business world too. Business owners need to realize that understanding the technology available and how to use it's tools can have a major impact on their businesses. "What do you want your business to do with technology?"

Many of you have seen the YouTube video of the meteor in Russia this week (and were you wondering why so many Russians have cameras on their dashboards?).  This show the geologic impact of the largest of meteors and here are links to a map (with the data) of all the known meteorites to have landed.  Pictured above is Meteor Crater in Arizona, one of the most powerful impacts the Earth has even seen.

Earth Structural Layer Cake

Earth Structural Layer Cake | New Generation Education | Scoop.it

"One of their lessons [in a series involving geologic sciences] involved teaching the kids about the structure of the Earth. One of her friends came up with the idea of presenting a model of the Earth made out of cake. So my sister asked me if I could make a spherical cake with all the layers of the Earth inside it."

Courtney Burns's curator insight, December 7, 2013 7:58 PM

I think that this came out awesome! I definetly don't think that I would be able to pull something like this off. However what I found intersting about this was that it was like a cake map. Students were able to get a visual about what the earth's core is like. It visually shows them all the different layers of the earth. Just by visually seeing the cake like this will help a lot more kids to remember this lesson. Also by the baker putting the countries in their accurate locations makes this cake even that much better. They are veiwing a map and they don't even know it. I think this cake is a great tool to use to show students just how the earth is actually made up. By allowing the students to visually see it also makes it more likely for them to remember the material. Viewing maps can teach so much, which is why I think this "cake map" is an awesome way to teach and get the kids attention!

Seth Dixon's curator insight, August 6, 2013 11:01 AM

The last two conferences that I have attended have been greatly enriched by the backchannel (the conversation about the conference being held on Twitter).  The backchannel removes the top-down method of disseminating information and ideas as you tailor for stream to find information that interests you (I have no use for Taylor Swift gossip or oncology research at the moment, but if I did, I could find those conversations on Twitter quite easily).  Not surprisingly, my stream is focused on geography education, educational technologies and geospatial tools.  It isn't "one more thing" to complicate your life--it's a great tool to streamline the conversations that you always wish you could have with the people you might not otherwise be able to access.  And that makes it worth trying.
