Matmi's insight:

Like this author states - gaming is a serious business. Games are no longer just a teengage boys hobby - they are a serious revenue generating tool. More and more people from all walks of life are playing casual mobile games so there is even more of a need for businesses to be ahead of the game ( excuse the pun ) and have their own game developed to get customers interacting with their brand.

Danny Ong's curator insight, September 24, 2013 1:26 AM

In this article, it is shown how people applies gaming-related concepts into their daily activities. Therefore, if we could apply the same concepts when it comes to businesses, plenty of improvement will be seen among the people. One of the example is Foursquare giving people achievements if they had logged into several places using Foursquare. If this concept is applied to the business people, there might had a chance they are motivated by the rewards that will be given if they done an excellent job.

Game On: Why Gamification Works and What it May Mean for the Future of News on Digg | Digg About

"Digg is experimenting with achievements in Newsrooms. Currently, users are given the typical options of reading, Digging, or burying news stories. Users are rewarded for their actions via a points and rewards system. However some awards are dependent on his/her interaction with the community-- which adds an additional dynamic. For example, someone can’t keep submitting stories to get them promoted or onto the front page. Those rewards encourage users to not only invest time into the community but also to strive to submit quality content.

But more can be done to truly change the way people share and discover news on Digg and the answer to that may come with what comes next for games."

RedCritter Tracker: Motivation by Gamification

RedCritter Tracker: Motivation by Gamification | New Digital Media | Scoop.it

Many companies opt to use incentive or reward programs in order to motivate staff and increase sales or work done. Wouldn’t it be awesome to not only have an online incentive/rewards program but mix it in with some Foursquare-style gamification for a conceptually awesome motivation tool?

That’s what RedCritter Tracker might just be. RedCritter allows you to create new projects, invite your team and reward the completion of tasks. Users will earn points when they complete their tasks which can be spent in your own company rewards store and even earn badges! Trust me when I say that when I was told about the app, I was very excited to try it out.

10 Gamification Predictions for 2012

1.) Gamification Grows Up

The gamification industry went through its adolescent phase in 2011, as businesses, analysts and press started to take notice of its growth. Like any adolescence, this phase was filled with some awkward misunderstandings, but now business leaders understand the true value of gamification for their key objectives. In 2012 gamification will be an expected part of our digital experiences.

2.) Focus on Business Results
Gamification is no longer about adding a few points and badges to a site or rewarding users for short-term engagement. It is about viable and sustainable business results, using proven techniques to influence customer and employee behavior. We will see a rise in expectation for gamification ROI to be proven by real business results.

Playing with Project Management - RedCritter Tracker

Playing with Project Management - RedCritter Tracker | New Digital Media | Scoop.it
A startup called RedCritter turns software development into a game.

U.K.-based game development company Matmi began using Tracker a few months ago. While it's too early to tell if it's had a positive effect on the bottom line, the software has allowed more visibility into what programmers are actually doing. "Not only can we monitor how the project is going, and make amendments to hit deadlines should any issues arise, but [Tracker] allows the whole team to claim their involvement in the project and show them how important a part they play," says James Tibbles, head of development at Matmi.
