Why Can't All Map Apps Be This Clever?

Why Can't All Map Apps Be This Clever? | New Digital Media | Scoop.it

Augmented Reality has mostly found its niche as a way to bring virtual characters to life through a mobile device. But a Japanese developer has found a more clever use. Crossfader's AR-MAPS app syncs Apple or Google Maps to a live video feed from your iPhone's camera, so you can visualize how you're oriented, and easily locate destinations.

Using the device's GPS, compass, and gyroscope, the app automatically switches between a split-screen map/video view of your surroundings, or just a flat map depending on if you're holding your device vertically or horizontally. And not only does it let you search for a specific address or landmark, it uses augmented reality to overlay markers on the video feed so all you need to do is spin around until it highlights your destination. And best of all, it's currently available free of charge on the iTunes App Store, providing yet another alternative to Apple's Maps offering.

Augmented Reality combined with mobile technology is really starting to show what is capable. Expect to see more and more impressive uses of the technology.

Loytr Application Brings Facebook Timeline To IPad Users

Loytr Application Brings Facebook Timeline To IPad Users | New Digital Media | Scoop.it

Loytr, the maker of popular Facebook iPad application MyPad, turned its attention to the forthcoming profile upgrade with the release of its new app for the Apple tablet, Timelines for Facebook.

The app brings all of the elements of the timeline profile to users of the Apple tablet, and users can browse their timeline profiles, Facebook friend lists, news feeds, and friends’ timeline profiles, either randomly or in alphabetical order.

Timelines for Facebook is certainly attractive, and it may be one of the only ways to enjoy timeline before the sitewide rollout of the advanced profile.
And Loytr is certainly not a flash in the pan, as MyPad has been downloaded more than 25 million times and boasts over 2.5 million daily users.

It's a fantastic web based App for managing all you daily Tweeting activity with scheduling, tabs to separate search streams and lists etc.

CSS 3.0 maker is pretty cool but as I have said in a previous post, I suggest you learn how to code solo without these WYSIWYG type things. It will benefit you a great deal in the long run.

SUMMARY: The economic ecosystem surrounding augmented-reality apps is expected to reach $300 million in 2013, up from $82 million this year, according to Juniper Research. "[T]he primary implications for marketers is that if they're not already considering incorporating augmented reality into a campaign, then they should be," said Juniper principal analyst Windsor Holden. Though copyright, libel and privacy issues may hamper future development, a mixture of advertising, paid downloads and post-download content is expected to bring in $5.2 billion in revenue by 2017.

Viral channels for Android apps to launch ‘in coming weeks’

Viral channels for Android apps to launch ‘in coming weeks’ | New Digital Media | Scoop.it

One of the bits of news hidden in this week’s flood of Facebook marketing and HTML5 announcements is that viral channels for native Android apps are coming to the platform in a few weeks.

That will finally bring the mobile platform to parity between Android and iOS. Developers for both platforms will be able to promote their apps in the news feed and through requests and bookmarks. If a person sees activity from a mobile app in their news feed, they’ll be driven to the app if they have it or the right page in the iTunes store or Android Market for downloading it. Facebook first unveiled these mobile channels back in October, but they were just for iOS and mobile web apps.
