Facebook's F8 Conference: What to Expect | New Developments in Social Media | Scoop.it
Here's what to expect from Wednesday's F8 Developer Conference in San Francisco.
Colin Cocaine's insight:

This article details the expansion of Facebook, and how it will affect users and brands.  Facebook's major theme going forward is completely centered on the mobile app as opposed to the website. Facebook has announce that they have 1 billion monthly active mobile users alone.  The the last year, mobile advertising accounted for 59% of the total ad revenue, nearly double what it was last year.  Their plan is to integrate third party mobile apps to drive more users to Facebook.  One way to do this is to integrate the Facebook login into millions of apps so users can share content directly from all of their other apps.  Facebook is asserting their dominance by assuring others that working with Facebook will undoubtedly increase their users.  Companies working with Facebook will receive data that allows them to further target and segment the market.  Making it a no brainer to integrate Facebook, which is exactly what they want.  The number of monthly active mobile users has more than doubled in the last two years, finally eclipsing 1 billion.

Social media predictions for 2014: Discover what social media pros predict for the year ahead.
Colin Cocaine's insight:

Almost all businesses these days at least attempt to utilize social media in order to reach out to their target customers. A main factor explaining this is that creating and maintaining these sites and profiles are totally free.  The opportunity for free outreach was almost impossible to take up. Well finally, these social media sites see the opportunity to make money themselves. After all, why can every business make money for free at the social media sites' expense? Many trends have shown that social media sites are getting ready to start charging businesses to market through their services. Another big trend factoring against this is social influence advocacy.  If posts and profiles must be paid for, why not get an endorser to advocate your brand for you. It has been shown that influential people on social media affect purchase behavior more than the brands themselves. This is because these people are looked upon as spreading practical information rather than selling a product, which makes customers feel better about spending money on a product.  These social media sites will make more money because it will finally be mutually beneficial for the site and the business. 2014 will be a year of many changes in the social media world.
