What FB Newswire means for PR pros

What FB Newswire means for PR pros | New Developments in Social Media | Scoop.it
Facebook’s latest motion toward positioning itself as a leading source of news and information puts a premium on generating social interaction for clients and their brands.
Christophe Esposito 's insight:

Heard of the Facebook Newswire? It’s Facebooks most recent move into the media space. It will hopefully become another useful tool for journalists looking for newsworthy content from Facebook users.

Facebooks partnership with Storyful is adding a layer of verification that saves time in the new gathering process. This will have great implications of PR pros and the brands they represent.  Brands will now be attempting to get their content or news published via Facebooks newswire to allow for even further reach. This news channel is an opportunity but only if their PR content can generate good social interactions.. This is another example of an earned media opportunity.

This is also an attempt on Facebooks part to attract more users to check the platform first for breaking news as well as give users a reason to stay on the platform instead of leaving to find their news elsewhere.

New social networks connect cooks, diners

New social networks connect cooks, diners | New Developments in Social Media | Scoop.it
If the latest development in culinary social media catches on, the trendiest restaurants may no longer be restaurants.
Christophe Esposito 's insight:

Trendy restaurant meets dining room table. A recent trend in culinary social media is taking the chef-diner relationship to a whole new level and moving out of the traditional eateries and into private homes.

One of the apps discussed is Cookapp, it for example connecting adventurous diners with independent chefs, and even just ambitious cooks, willing to host dinners at their homes and other offbeat locations.

Like similar apps of its kind, Cookapp is taking advantage of the goring side of the “shared economy” similar to apps like Uber which involve the ride sharing concept. These types of apps are peer-to-peer businesses, which are disrupting established industries.

I personally enjoy companies like this who are thinking outside the box and reimagining the way people do things. This forces older established brands to either keep up or fade out of existence.

Facebook Passes 1 Billion Monthly Mobile Users

Facebook Passes 1 Billion Monthly Mobile Users | New Developments in Social Media | Scoop.it
Facebook reported more than one billion mobile monthly users on Wednesday.
Christophe Esposito 's insight:

1,000,000,000! Now that’s a big number. Facebook recently reported it now has not only passed 1 Billion monthly active users total. But now on just mobile devices it has crossed the same threshold. This is an astonishing accomplishment. This announcement helps solidify that Mobile and mobile marketing is already here and here to stay.

For brands this mean that they need to be no longer just talking to customers on the desktop but now even more than before they need to be on their phones. Mobile advertising revenue for Facebook has continued to increases each quarter since it went public back in 2012 as brands are continuing to pay more and more to get in front of customers eyes and onto their mobile devices.
