Personally, I would highly recommend this article for anyone interested in social media. I found it to be extremely helpful with its suggested tips on how to properly curate articles and how to go about doing so in an ethical manner. I think that it is important for businesses to be looking into what else is going on in their industry aside from themselves and to be open to discuss those changes with their consumers. By posting other articles from creditable sources, companies have the brilliant opportunity to look more like experts in the field themselves even for just keeping up with current ideas and innovations. Aside from this, it also lets businesses provide their followers with their own take on what is going on in the world. For their customers, curating makes it much more exciting to follow businesses. When companies are not so focused on using social media to push products, they can instead use these forums to be able to express themselves as a “real people” with actual personalities. People who are interested in their business have a great chance of also being very intrigued by other topics or subject matter that is relatable or are in some ways similar. Something to take away from this is the idea that social media should not be used to push products and services on people but rather another median to be able to connect and interact with consumers. By doing so, businesses are able to gain a better insight on what it is their customers are actually looking for and what are some things that they may need to change. It may be time-consuming, but in the end I truly believe that social media is an extremely powerful tool to be used in order to enhance a business in a relatively low cost manner.

I know that many people keep asking what is social media curation and I have heard many answers.  Some of the definitions I have heard are so complicated that its hard to digest.  Reading "SOCIAL MEDIA CURATION is: Gathering and repurposing content from sources outside of your business to improve and diversify your social media marketing." not only makes perfect sense but will also help the new person understand the *concept*

A post by long-time tech blogger Dan Gillmor about the decline of the “indie web” got me thinking about the old days of the blogosphere, and how powerful the unedited voice of a single passionate blogger can be. Have we gained as much as we’ve lost?

Author Mathew Ingram was inspired to write an article after he read a post from a blogger by the name of Dan Gillmor. The latter is a tech blogger who had recently wrote an entry about the decline of what he called “indie blogging”. This got Ingram feeling nostalgic about the old ways of blogging and how it was more centralized around the individual and not all these companies creating blogs to raise awareness. He also talks about how other social media sites, mainly Facebook and Twitter, have been dominating and taking many bloggers away from sites they used to use prior to that.

Going on four years now, I have operated a Tumblr page and it has been a great pass time for me. It is far from a professional blog but it was something that I was interested in and a website like that made it easy for me to get a taste of what blogging is all about. To a certain extent, I can see where Ingram is coming from seeing how new websites have allowed just about anyone to start their own blog. However, I feel like there are still some other blogging sites where people need to have HTML knowledge and are much more professional about their postings. While there are more people blogging nowadays, there are still spaces where Ingram can blog with people who post more like him. In the end, life nowadays have made it harder to be a hipster as the internet now makes just about everything available to anyone who wants something.

This article brought to light a lot of helpful insights onto what businesses should be sharing, when they should be posting that content, and also how to properly get that information out there. A majority of the tips seem merely like common sense but sometimes all it takes is just a minor difference in your way of thinking. One thing to keep in mind is to try to always put yourself in your readers’ shoes. What type of content do they typically find intriguing? What is it that is going to get them excited and wanting to share it with their friends? Once you are able to determine what is going to spark a glint of interest in your consumers, you will see a much higher rate of interaction. Something that is also quite beneficial is truly getting a clear understanding of the particular social media site that you are using. Determining what time during the day has the most active users on that forum is a great tool in figuring out when exactly you should be posting. Lastly, some added food for thought is that you should always try to be consistent with your posts. This doesn’t mean that you have to be boring and make every post so similar to their others, but it is more of a commonality in how you organize and format your posts that is key. With these helpful little tips that journalist Jeff Haden has provided us with, your business is sure to see some success.

This article delved into the idea behind the Pareto Principle, which is more commonly known as the 80/20 rule. Although this concept can be applied to anything in people’s lives, it relates to social media in what businesses should be focusing on. For instance, it is generally the very loyal and involved 20% of your customers who are going to drive more of your sales than say the remaining 80% who are also a part of your target market. Learning how to hone in on the exact customers who are going to make a real difference is the key to being successful. This does not mean that the consumers who are not as involved need to be forgotten about but rather, they do not require as much attention since their actions are not going to heavily influence the health of a business. This rule can also help companies in balancing the things that matter most to them. For instance, using the 80/20 concept for social media can aid people in finding the perfect amount of what content they’re posting. Perhaps the larger portion of their postings are curated from other respected sites and a smaller amount of statuses or tweets actually pertain to the company themselves. Overall, the 80/20 rule is a handy tool when it comes to understanding what a company should exactly be focusing on and eliminating any time waste could allow businesses to be able to further engage when it is really going to make a difference and with who it Is actually going to be with.
