Recently I shared some of my favorite apps for the writing process and here’s another to add to the list.  MindNote is a mind mapping app for iPads that lets users organize their ideas.  It can be used for a variety of tasks including character mapping, story brainstorming, and study support.  You might have students color code their outline to match a specific task or give students the freedom to organize their thinking as they conduct research or respond to a prompt.

Crackerjack Education

Crackerjack Education | Education as a Profession in the 21st Century | Scoop.it

The new Australian National Curriculum has inspired two women to put together an online range of hundreds of interactive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources for teachers, parents and educators.
Wiradjuri woman Nola Turner-Jensen and Brisbane-born Janelle Latcham said ‘Crackerjack Education’ had been developed over the past 2 years to help young Australians in mainstream classrooms understand the depth and beauty of Australian Aboriginal & Torres Strait islander history and culture.
“The most exciting thing for me about this collection of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander digital resources is that by matching them to the National Curriculum, we are ensuring that they cross all mainstream learning areas, not just Aboriginal & Torres Strait islander,” Ms Turner-Jensen said.
“We are committed to ensuring our resources are modern, exciting and relevant enough for teachers in Australia to use them everyday in their classrooms.” Our aim is to support educators to feel confident to use our resources.

In January 2012, ACARA announced that following a period of public consultation, revisions would be made to the first draft of the Australian Curriculum's History Curriculum in order to better reflect the history of the Stolen Generations. The changes would impact school years intermittently from Year 3 to Year 10, with the importance of marking both National Sorry Day and the Anniversary of the Apology as a school being taught, among other topics.

NewsMaker - National Curriculum to include Auslan : a win for deaf advocates

Deaf Australia yesterday applauded Minister Peter Garrett’s 21 November announcement that Auslan (Australian Sign Language) will be included in the National Curriculum.

“We believe every deaf child has the right to communicate in the way that suits them best, and for many deaf children, this means being bilingual in both English and Auslan,” said Karen Lloyd AM, Executive Officer of Deaf Australia. “This announcement brings us one step closer to realising this goal for young deaf Australians and will change how Auslan and deaf people are perceived by a new generation of Australians, both deaf and hearing.”
