My topic was America first committee and this affected America in many ways. They influenced the people to not get into World War 2. The committee was made in September 1940. Hitlers had an invasion on Poland and that made World War 2 happen. The neutrality acts where passed in the late 1930's. This act refused the government's ability to support an act from either political party. In the winter of 1941 the AFC was strongly opposed. Then was when the Lend Lease acts was proposed. Four days after the Japanese's attack on pearl harbor the AFC ended
My insight on this document is that it gave personal opinions regarding the war and other situations involving the creation of America First committee. This is a letter, it was addressed to an America First meeting in New York on April 23, 1941. In this letter it describes on how there are many view points that can be argued regarding the war. The person writing the document is convinced that America should not enter a war unless there is a good chance of winning. Also, this person thinks that its for Americas best interest that we stay out of the war because if we depend on the British empire and it collapses then were screwed. At the time it was obvious that England was loosing the war.
My insight on this document about The America First Committee was that it gave me reasons on why America first committee failed on the legistlative front. The American legislative front argued that Americas security depended on stopping Nazi Germany from conquering Europe. There was another group called "committee to defend america by aiding the allies and it was led by William allen white. This was one of the most prominent groups. In 1941, Britian endured a horrific German bombing campaign, and this made some of the people in CDAAA to want to join the war. America first committee argued that if America gave aid to Great Britian than it would ruin the chances America had at not being dragged into the war. Fortunately, America doesnt face the threat of world war like it did seven decades ago. But America still knows about the debate that we had on whether we should of joined the war or not and intervene in fighting places like Libya and Syria.
Charles Lindberg, Noninterventionist Efforts & America First Committee
Adia Zachary's insight:
My insight on this article was that Charles Lindbergh was around when this happened so he has some inside information on this. On September 11, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa and he spoke his ideas on the isolationsist America first committee. He thought that America would go into war because he expressed doubt that the U.S would win against Germany. Lindbergh moved to England with his wife six years later. Also another thing that i learned was in 1938, presented Lindbergh with serive cross. Another thing that i learned was that on December 7, 1941 japan attacked pearl harbor. Soon after that the debate over U.S war policy ended. At this time Lindbergh resigned from his military position in 1939, he asked to be reinstated but Roosevelt refused.
My topic is the America First Committee, the committee was basically a protest against going into WWII. The committee started in 1940 and it was shut down after the attack on pearl harbor in 1941. Overall it was about 800,000 members. The committee had its mixture of business men and political figures. The spokes person for this committee was Charles A. Lindbergh, and he did the speeches and other things that required representation for the committee. When the War started America at first wanted to be at peace with Europe. The people that were in committee strongly disagreed with supporting Japan. Also another important detail is that the committee's headquarters were in Chicago. It was important for America to build an impregnable defense for the United States. A famous quote of the America First Committee was that "Aid short of war" and this was saying that if we provided aid for the war it could make or break america. The America First Committee thought that American Democracy can be preserved by keeping out of the European War. Lindbergh made an anti-war stance before the battle of Britain is also an important fact.
My insight on this document was that it gave some very useful information on the America committee. Such as the fact that it started in New Haven, Chicago. This primary document was an interview from Arthur Schlesinger, a person who was alive the time the first committee was created. In this interview the question was asked, did Des Moines destroy America First? The answer that was given was that it did shake it up but what destroyed America First was Pearl Harbor. Another question that was asked in the interview was did Arthur think that Charles Lindbergh was a hero? His answer was that he thought that "He is not a hero in my book". The last question that was asked in the interview was if he thought Charles paid for a price of fame? He gave the answer that he paid for the price of his mistakes and he also was forgiven very quickly.

Adia Zachary's insight:
My insight on this article was that like the articles they all agree that America first committee was created Septemeber 1940. There purpose was against the entry of the war and also to oppose aid. They decide that the if the U.S was properly armed it was impregnable against Germany attack, and they thought that it was no reason to help England. If America provided Aid it would not only weaken America's own defenses but it would put the country in the middle of this conflict. The people that joined this claimed that they were concerned for Americans lives, and others joined AFC to attack President and the New Deal. America first committee was a reminder that anti-war movements are not all they claim to be.
The role of America First Committee in the history of the United States of America.
Adia Zachary's insight:
The webiste i found was called "America First Committee", firstly i found out it was made in Septemeber 1940 to oppose Americans potential intervention in WWII. America would do this by aiding the other countries while they were in war. In Septemeber 1939 When Hitler invaded Poland that precipiated the war. In 1940 it was known that the only military force for Nazis was Britian. I also learned that congress passed the neutrality acts in the late 1930s.
