Forget the Vision, Make the Connections

Forget the Vision, Make the Connections | networking people and companies | Scoop.it

New leaders don’t spend nearly enough time and effort being intentional about how they show up and how they spend their own time. The effort they devote to forming meaningful connections with the people in the organization is almost an afterthought.

(From the article): How can you be more intentional? Hall frames intentionality in her own work in eight words that guide each of her interactions: “I want it to matter that we met.” And it should matter for both her and the person she is meeting. There is an implied flexibility in the time horizon; it may matter immediately or several years down the road. Challenge yourself: “I want it to matter that I hold this position,” or “I want it to matter that I am your boss.” How does this affect how you will show up to deliver short-term results and create long-term impact?

15+ Ways of Teaching Every Student to Code (Even Without a Computer) - Edutopia

15+ Ways of Teaching Every Student to Code (Even Without a Computer) - Edutopia | networking people and companies | Scoop.it

"According to Code.org, 90 percent of U.S. schools are not teaching any computer science. Eyebrows have been raised this year as the U.K. passed a plan to educate every child how to code.

In my opinion, parents of every student in every school at every level should demand that all students be taught how to code. They don't need this skill because they'll all go into it as a career -- that isn't realistic -- but because it impacts every career in the 21st century world. Any country recognizing that will benefit in the long term. Here's how you can start."

Matthew Farmer's curator insight, October 22, 2014 1:23 AM

There are those that thrive on being out of their comfort zone and those that don't like to move anywhere outside of it.  Personally I think that you need to be in both places at different times.  Sometimes people need to consolidate who they are and where they are, gaining confidence from a feeling of growing competence gathered from being fairly within one's zone of comfort.

However it can be too easy to get stuck there, and where learning is concerned, there is undoubtedly rich potential when we sail out into new and unfamiliar waters - provided that is that we take time to reflect!

Five Trends Shaping the Future of Work

Five Trends Shaping the Future of Work | networking people and companies | Scoop.it

If there’s one thing that we can all agree on it’s that the world of work is changing…quickly. The way we have been working over the past few years is NOT how are we are going to be working in the coming years. Perhaps one of the most important underlying factors driving this change is the coming shift around who drives how work gets done. Traditionally executives would set the rules and pass those down to managers who in turn would pass those down to employees. But as Dan Pink aptly put it, “talented people need organizations less than organizations need talented people.” In other words employees are now starting to drive the decisions and conversations around how work gets done, when it gets done, who it gets done with, what technologies are being used to get it done, etc. The next few years are going to bring about dramatic changes. But why now? What are the key trends that are driving this new future of work? There are five of them - take a look.

I agree with the trends One is missing for me The rehumanisation of the workplace. The future is not about technology rather why and how we use it to bring humanity back to the workplace or in some cases put humanity into the workplace

Michael Thiel's curator insight, September 11, 2014 6:53 AM
