What is Vital?

Vital is delivered by The Open University and part-funded by the Department for Education. It aims to support practitioners in sharing their expertise and thus enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

The core ethos and approach of the programme are centred on the idea that teachers are the experts in education.

Vital's role is to support teachers in extending and sharing their expertise, and ultimately re-taking ownership of teaching as a discipline.

CIRCOS - Software for Data Visualization

CIRCOS - Software for Data Visualization | networked media | Scoop.it

Circos is a software package for visualizing data and information. It visualizes data in a circular layout — this makes Circos ideal for exploring relationships between objects or positions.

Circos is ideal for creating publication-quality infographics and illustrations with a high data-to-ink ratio, richly layered data and pleasant symmetries. You have fine control each element in the figure to tailor its focus points and detail to your audience.

“When I talk to colleagues in Finland, they say, how do you filter?” said Jim Klein, director of Information Services and Technology at the Saugus Union School District in Southern California.

“They say, our kids’ filters are in their heads.

You do this by giving them a safe environment to educate themselves instead of sticking your head in the sand and pretending these technologies don’t exist.”

Yes, I agree, time to tune in instead of tuning out, what we don't understand.
Dodie Ellen Ballard's curator insight, March 13, 2013 2:44 AM

While this seems to be a struggle for some educational institutions, the policies not only have to be re-written, but the re-write must embrace and not negate the use of technology.
