Here's Why HPV Vaccination Should Be Halted Immediately, Pending Safety Review

Here's Why HPV Vaccination Should Be Halted Immediately, Pending Safety Review | Naturopathy & Nutrition | Scoop.it

A new review published in Autoimmunity Reviews titled, "On the relationship between human papilloma virus vaccine and autoimmune disease," is destined to reopen the controversy surrounding HPV vaccine-induced harm...

How could a vaccine that has been declared safe and effective the world over be connected to such a wide range of autoimmune diseases?

Part of the explanation lies with a phenomena known as 'molecular mimicry,' defined as the possibility that the immune system will mistake a self-structure with a foreign (usually pathogen derived) peptide and thereby cause auto-immune harm.

Antibodies, for instance, which are produced against a specific pathogen can cross-react with proteins in the body that have a similar or identical sequence.

The HPV vaccine: certain dangers but uncertain benefits.

The authors caution that, "The decision to vaccinate with HPV vaccine is a personal decision, not one that must be made for public health. HPV is not a lethal disease in 95% of the infections; and the other 5% are detectable and treatable in the precancerous stage."

Can’t Sleep? Your Guide to a Better Night’s Rest

Can’t Sleep? Your Guide to a Better Night’s Rest | Naturopathy & Nutrition | Scoop.it

"Think back on the last time you got a good night’s sleep. If last night comes to mind, lucky you! But can you remember when you got some great shut-eye every night for a week? It may be a little more challenging to recall. And you’re in the majority. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 50 to 70 million Americans have sleep or wakefulness disorder, and calls insufficient sleep a public health epidemic."

To help you get your best night’s sleep, there are some things you can do throughout the day so that you fall asleep quickly — and stay asleep. And while some of these tips may help you get better resttonight, know that getting quality sleep every night may take a few months of putting these habits into place, says Dr. Gerald Suh, ENT, board certified in Sleep Medicine.

Harvard Study: Fluoride Lowers Children’s Intelligence By 7 IQ Points Washington's Blog

Harvard Study: Fluoride Lowers Children’s Intelligence By 7 IQ Points Washington's Blog | Naturopathy & Nutrition | Scoop.it

The Harvard School for Public Health reports:

In a meta-analysis, researchers from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and China Medical University in Shenyang for the first time combined 27 studies and found strong indications that fluoride may adversely affect cognitive development in children. Based on the findings, the authors say that this risk should not be ignored, and that more research on fluoride’s impact on the developing brain is warranted.

Harvard’s announcement continues:

The average loss in IQ was reported as a standardized weighted mean difference of 0.45, which would be approximately equivalent to seven IQ points for commonly used IQ scores with a standard deviation of 15.   Some studies suggested that even slightly increased fluoride exposure could be toxic to the brain.

Thus, children in high-fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-fluoride areas. The children studied were up to 14 years of age, but the investigators speculate that any toxic effect on brain development may have happened earlier, and that the brain may not be fully capable of compensating for the toxicity.“

Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain,” Grandjean says. “The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us.”

If you live in a country that still promotes fluoridation of your water supply, such as the USA, the UK, Ireland, or Australia and New Zealand, you should perhaps take action to make your local government understand the implications of this study for the health of your children!

Certain probiotics could help women lose weight, study finds

Certain probiotics could help women lose weight, study finds | Naturopathy & Nutrition | Scoop.it
Certain probiotics could help women lose weight and keep it off, according to a recent study. Studies have already demonstrated that the intestinal flora of obese individuals differs from that of thin people. That difference may be due to the fact that a diet high in fat and low in fiber promotes certain bacteria at the expense of others. Researchers tried to determine if the consumption of probiotics could help reset the balance of the intestinal microbiota in favor of bacteria that promote a healthy weight.

Eating fat is good for you: Doctors change their minds after 40 years

Eating fat is good for you: Doctors change their minds after 40 years | Naturopathy & Nutrition | Scoop.it

A DIET packed with fat is the healthy way to prevent heart disease, a leading British expert has claimed.

Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra says the obsession with a low-fat diet has “paradoxically increased” the risk of heart disease.

Other experts have added their voices to his controversial call to end 40 years of advice to cut saturated fat – which has been described as “the greatest medical error of our time”.

They claim the guidance has left millions of people at risk of developing cardiovascular disease and “led to the over-medication of millions of people with statins”.

The public could just as effectively protect themselves by eating “real” food such as butter, milk and cheese and adopting the Mediterranean diet.
