The gut is our "second brain". Many of our neurotransmitters are produced in our gut, and what we put in there profoundly influences our mood. In cases of irritable bowel syndrome, it appears the anxiety levels these patients display may not be a precursor but a result of the disturbance in bowel flora...food for thought...pun intended
