Meditation Techniques: 2 Paths to Freedom from our Busy Minds - About Meditation

Meditation Techniques: 2 Paths to Freedom from our Busy Minds - About Meditation | nature and life lessons | Scoop.it
These meditation techniques form the basis of every other meditation style and practice. Learn which one works best for you to foster inner peace.

Despite the huge variety of meditation techniques available to spiritual seekers around the world, there’s a secret that every meditator needs to know.

There are really only two kinds of meditative practice: focused awareness and free awareness.

Generally speaking, every meditation technique can be classed under one of these two categories, which have traditionally been called “meditation with seed” and “meditation without seed.” Both approaches work, and practitioners of one path typically think that their path is superior to the other path, but in the end, finding which meditation technique works best for you is what’s most important. Both focused-awareness and free-awareness meditation techniques lead to the same benefits: spiritual depth, inner joy and peace, and freedom from our busy minds.  So let’s take a brief look at what it means to practice a focused or free meditation technique.

How Veterans Are Finding Peace And Healing Through Meditation

How Veterans Are Finding Peace And Healing Through Meditation | nature and life lessons | Scoop.it

Monday is Memorial Day, a day to celebrate and honor our country's veterans and acknowledge the depth of their sacrifice. It is also an opportunity to put the spotlight on the struggle, experienced by many veterans, to return to civilian life. Increasingly, returning soldiers have turned to meditation to help ease the transition.

A good article on meditation and its uses for soldiers who are trying to come home.  Meditation can help those find peace and healing in post war life.  It can also help soldiers while serving their country.

If you are interested in learning more about meditation, then please review the program for meditation instructors.  After completing the program, you are eligible for certification.

How to visualize knowledge work in process ‘Those people in IT, I don’t know why we have them around.” Richard, a department head for a major healthcare firm, stared at me across the table. “They have projects that are six months late! Projects they told us would take only a few months to do! We’d be better off if we just outsourced the whole department.” He shook his head.

An Antidote for Mindlessness

An Antidote for Mindlessness | nature and life lessons | Scoop.it

Mindfulness is different from the hyperalert way you might feel after a great night’s sleep or a strong cup of coffee.

Mindfulness training, Jha hypothesizes, may work as a protective factor against the typical stresses of student life—or any stress, for that matter, since it improves emotional equilibrium and enables people to better handle distractions. “It’s similar to how physical exercise can change the body,” Jha said. “We know that physical activity helps our bodies, but we’re just coming to the understanding that mental exercise is also critical to promoting mental well-being. It’s a cultural shift.”

The premise of the Paleo diet seems simple enough: if the cavemen didn't eat it, you shouldn't either. Hello meat, fish, poultry, fruits, and veggies. Goodbye refined sugar, dairy, grains, and beans. It sounds so easy, you can't possibly screw it up. But you can and probably are.

Technology Is Not Driving Us Apart After All

Technology Is Not Driving Us Apart After All | nature and life lessons | Scoop.it

It turns out, we may be more social than we were 30 years ago — at least in public spaces.

In September 2008, two graduate students working for Keith Hampton, a professor at Rutgers, raised a camera atop a 16-foot tripod to film down into Bryant Park, the sprawling green space behind the main branch of the New York Public Library. They hit record, then milled about nearby pretending they had nothing to do with the rig, as it semi-surreptitiously filmed the comings and goings of hundreds of New Yorkers. The charade didn’t last. After an hour, Lauren Sessions Goulet, the more senior of the pair, found herself talking to the park’s private security force, which sent her to see their bosses, the Bryant Park Corporation. She was nervous.

Endangered elephants in Ivory Coast given lifeline

Endangered elephants in Ivory Coast given lifeline | nature and life lessons | Scoop.it
The program, based in the Ivory Coast, aims to capture elephants in areas of danger and safely relocate them to the haven of a national park. Poaching and urban sprawl, possibly triggered by recent civil unrest, means the forest elephants’ traditional home of Marahoue National Park is not big or safe enough to live. The big move has taken a week and cost about a quarter of a million dollars, but animal welfare advocate Celine Sissler-Bienvenu says she’s proud of the progress they have made.
