Raw Chocolate To Brighten Up Your Day | Weight Loss & Nutrition | Natural Superfoods | Scoop.it
You may have heard that chocolate was good for you, then you may have been confused about what that actually means.
Given that most readily available chocolate is a result of heavy processing and adding other ingredients like sugar and dairy products it be can’t be healthy right? When the raw beans are made into chocolate, they undergo a series of steps that destroy most of the naturally occurring compounds. The two processes which are most responsible for this destruction are roasting, which exposes the beans to high temperatures, and “dutching” which exposes the beans to a highly alkaline solution.

CompositionGenerally, although β-glucan is the main component of mushroom products, elements that are not seen elsewhere are obtained in AHCC with the unique production method.Main component of AHCC is acetylated α-glucan. Acetylated α-glucan is of a comparatively lower molecular weight (mean molecular weight of about 5000) and since the molecular weight of β- glucan is from ten thousand to half a million, α- glucan is easier to absorb than β- glucan. Besides this, various elements obtained from the cultivation and fermentation reaction of basidiomycete are included in AHCC.

Latest health craze - the alkaline diet

Latest health craze - the alkaline diet | Natural Superfoods | Scoop.it
Judi Jenkins's insight:

So what's all the fuss about? Well, by alkalising your diet, you can eat your way to a host of health benefits. Cast your mind back to school chemistry and you might recall learning about the pH scale of acidity: a pH scale of 7 is neutral, anything below that is acid, and a pH above 7 is alkaline.

Interestingly the body's optimum pH is not neutral, but set at the slightly alkaline level of 7.35. Though a healthy body will keep our pH within safe levels, the problem is our diets can tilt the balance towards acidity. And that's when we start using up our precious stores of alkalising minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium, to neutralise the extra acid.
