Shifting sands: putting carbon back into soils

Shifting sands: putting carbon back into soils | Natural Resource Management | Scoop.it
Evaluating the effectiveness of soil carbon sequestration The world has a carbon problem, and we all know it. Tons of carbon dioxide are emitted into the atmosphere every day, contributing significantly to climate change. But slowing the rate of emissions will be no easy feat. In order to mitigate its effects, scientists are looking at alternative ways of dealing with the issue, such as carbon sequestration.

Conservation leader paints bleak picture of future

Conservation leader paints bleak picture of future | Natural Resource Management | Scoop.it
On Friday in Brooklyn Center, at the annual Department of Natural Resources stakeholders meeting, Jim Martin delivered what DNR leaders doubtless wanted him to deliver: A sobering look at the future of the nation’s natural resources, and particularly the fast-diminishing ability of state and federal fish, wildlife, land and water managers to slow what appears to be an inexorable slide of the nation’s natural heritage into an abyss.

This is good insight from a seasoned practitioner.

So we have to kill it to save it, eh?

You mean taking a blood draw and some feather pulls isn't sufficient even after all the morphometrics the mist netting crews normally collect?

This guy is a tool.  If these birds were so common and he was so good, how is it he had to search for 20 years to find it?

Knowledge brokers: connecting research and practice
