Yet another Shropshire Muslim jailed over sex with schoolgirl.

Yet another Shropshire Muslim jailed over sex with schoolgirl. | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

By Karl Foulkes - An ex-taxi driver and fast food worker who paid to have sex with a Shropshire schoolgirl has been sentenced for a paltry two and a half years imprisonment at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Mohammed Islam Choudhrey was thought to have paid over £600 to the teenager in the course of a just a few months.

He had admitted a charge of paying for the sexual services of a child between January and December, 2009.

Judge Michael Challinor told Choudhrey that he had ‘cynically used the young girl for sexual purposes’.

He stated Choudhrey’s actions had been relentless and the harm to the Telford teenager was enormous.

Incredibly Judge Challinor believed that Choudhrey was not part of the usual filthy Muslim predatory gang and that he had actually been KIND to the victim !

The judge said “But the offence is serious and the age difference makes you dangerous to young girls who must be protected,”

Choudhrey, of Solway Drive, Sutton Hill, Telford, was made the subject of a Sex Offences Protection Order for the next seven years.

The judge directed that a second accusation of paying the girl for sex should lie on the file.
Miss Deborah Gould, prosecuting, said that Choudhrey’s plea portrayed a prolonged course of conduct over a period of several months.

She said that Choudhrey met the vulnerable girl, when she was 16 and he would shower her with food, alcohol and cannabis and that the teenager had already been heavily abused by two other men who were manipulating her and using her as a prostitute.
Choudhrey then became a client, paying £50 each time.

Defence for Choudhrey, Mr Denis Desmond said his client had not corrupted the girl and had treated her well and gave her gifts. The money came at later dates.

He said Choudhrey had been oblivious that the other men were getting the cash from the girl.

Mr Desmond said that as a consequence of the case Choudhrey had been disowned by his family and ostracised by the local Muslim community.

Javed Khaliq:admitted threats to kill, child cruelty and drugs charges

Javed Khaliq:admitted threats to kill, child cruelty and drugs charges | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A MAN who took a young girl and threatened to kill her in a series of chilling phone calls to her mother was last night behind bars.

Javed Khaliq held the child in a cold and filthy garage for hours overnight while he repeatedly made contact with her frantic mother.

Khaliq, 33, warned the woman: “You’re never going to see her again… the next time you see her, she will be in a body bag with me.”

In another of the 62 calls he made over three hours, he said: “The only person who is going to see me and your daughter is God.”

Khaliq later told the woman to say goodbye to her daughter as he counted down from five to one then switched off his mobile phone.

Police had been called by the mother to her home in the Stockton area, and officers heard some of the menacing calls she received.

John Gillette, prosecuting, told Teesside Crown Court that in one, Khaliq prompted the toddler to be abusive towards her, making her repeat things such as “f*** you mammy, you slag.”

Judge Howard Crowson jailed Khaliq for 12 months yesterday after telling him the threats he made were extremely frightening.

The judge accepted it would have been unlikely Khaliq would harm the child, but said her mother would have been terrified.

“You finished with a rather chilling comment, saying, ‘Say goodbye to your daughter’ and the countdown,”

Judge Crowson said.

“One can only imagine what effect that probably had upon her mum… [but] I conclude that you would never have carried out the threat.”

Khaliq, of Duchess Road, Crumpsall, Manchester, admitted making threats to kill and child cruelty as well as two unconnected drugs charges.

Mr Gillette told the court that the cruelty charge related to Khaliq abandoning the child for a short time in the garage while he went to a shop.

Duncan McReddie, mitigating, said Khaliq had drunk vodka before the incident, and acted completely out of character.

The court heard that he will be banned from working with children after he is released from prison and may be deported.

But Mr McReddie said Khaliq believes he is a legitimate UK citizen after twice marrying British women.

Weighty sentences for drug brothers who duped an elderly woman

Weighty sentences for drug brothers who duped an elderly woman

Two Birmingham brothers who tricked an elderly woman into receiving heroin concealed within packages of weightlifting belts have been jailed.

Mohammed Javaid, aged 44, and Mohammed Nadeem, aged 29, from the Cape Hill area, were targeted by the Serious Organised Crime Agency after a package containing three kilos of heroin was intercepted at Heathrow Airport in June 2011.

Javaid, who was found guilty of conspiracy to import and supply heroin, was sentenced to 12 years at Birmingham Crown Court today (Thursday), and Nadeem, who pleaded guilty to the same offence and an additional one of cannabis cultivation, was jailed for nine years four months.

The investigation revealed the duo went to considerable lengths to obscure their activity by arranging for the packages to be delivered to the 60-year-old woman at her home in West Bromwich.

Javaid, who was the former partner of the woman’s daughter, persuaded her to take delivery of the package intercepted at the airport, plus an additional one a few months earlier which contained a similar amount of heroin.

The brothers, who made arrangements for the packages to be sent from Pakistan to fictitious people in the UK, made all the arrangements using unregistered prepay mobile phones to further distance themselves from the heroin.

Sarah Goodall, Regional Head of Investigations for SOCA, said: “The behaviour of these two men was despicable. They preyed on a vulnerable elderly woman and duped her into receiving packages of heroin.

“They probably believed that using unregistered phones would protect them, but they were wrong. Expert analysis of the telephone data enabled us to link the mobiles to the brothers. This, coupled with the bravery of the woman and her family members who gave evidence, ultimately led to their downfall.

“We are determined to protect our communities by using our expertise to stamp down hard on organised criminals. These two are now in jail where they belong and have been denied substantial profits.”

Patriot Arrested, Tried In Secret Court, Imprisoned

Patriot Arrested, Tried In Secret Court, Imprisoned | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

At 0930 this morning, in scenes reminiscent of Stasi East Germany, 2 police cars and 4 policemen from Merseyside Police arrested British Constitution Group Chairman Roger Hayes at his Wirral home and drove away.

The first his family heard of him was at 18:30 this evening via a telephone call from a Warder in Liverpool prison, to say that Roger had been tried and sentenced to prison.

At no time were the family or any other members of the public informed of his arrest, and it is understood that he was tried in a secret court without a Jury.

Denied the right to argue his case, denied the right to a Jury, denied the right for the public to see justice being done, Roger was imprisoned in the secretive gulag system that Britain has become in 2012.

Roger's "crime" is that he has been refusing to pay his Council tax, because along with other state taxes, a proportion of the tax revenue gathered is being sent to the European Union, used to fund unlawful wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria, and promote terrorism right around the world. To pay tax under these circumstances is, at the very least, unlawful under Section 15(3) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

As such the present government of UK in Westminster is complicit to terrorist action and war crimes and therefore the payment of taxes to an unlawful, criminal regime is itself a criminal act - one in which Roger refused to participate.

The state has never forgiven him for the arrest of Judge Peake at Birkenhead court as part of this campaign.

In addition to his stance on taxes for unlawful purposes, Roger has also been campaigning for the Lawful Bank - a monetary initiative in which money can be issued to the public as credit, rather than as crippling debt under the existing corrupt and fraudulent International Monetary System.

As Chairman of the British Constitution Group, Roger Hayes has been an outspoken public speaker warning the British public that their rights and freedoms under Common Law and the Constitution are being stripped away and replaced by a dictatorship of secret courts operating under Administrative and Statute Law.

There is no doubt that his success in alerting ever more people to the dangers of the British / EU dictatorship being built by a criminal element now masquerading as British politicians, has caused the state to imprison Roger. His challenge to the fraudulent banking system, as evidenced by the criminal acts of Barclays bank and todays resignation by arch Bilderberger and BBC advisor Marcus Agius, will also have made Roger enemies within Britain's wide criminal banking cabal.

Roger's family is shocked both at his arrest, and at the realisation that Britain is now sliding into a police state, where husbands, fathers and other good people can be lifted off the streets and imprisoned. There is now no doubt that Britain is further under the control of domestic terrorists in Westminster.

We ask that all those who value their freedoms and liberty call Meryside Police for further information and an explanation of their actions, and also call Liverpool prison to establish Roger's physical safety and well-being.

Nottingham raid led police to £22m international drugs ring

Nottingham raid led police to £22m international drugs ring | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A ROUTINE drugs raid in Nottingham led to the discovery of a £22.9 million international drugs ring.

Brothers Pritpal Ruprah and Satpal Ruprah were jailed for a total of 13 years at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday after admitting their part in 8,197kg of cannabis being trafficked into the UK since 2005.

The court heard their involvement in the operation unravelled after Notts Police raided a house in Tattershall Drive, The Park, on October 13, 2010, and found just over 1kg of skunk cannabis, and over 6kg of cannabis resin.

Michael Auty, prosecuting, said that Pritpal Ruprah had been friends with a woman at the house and supplied her with drugs. It included giving her a 1kg block of cannabis resin as a gift in October 2008, he told the court.

Mr Auty said: “It was after this that police were contacted by the Serious Organised Crime Agency and were alerted to other operations.”

Former Nottingham Trent University student Pritpal Ruprah, 33, who lived in Roden Street, Sneinton, at the time, pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy to supply cannabis and cannabis resin, two charges of supplying cannabis and cannabis resin, and one charge of supplying cocaine.

He was jailed for a total of seven-and-a-half years.

Sanjeev Sharma, mitigating for Pritpal Ruprah, said he has shown remorse. He said: “He was hitherto a man with no previous convictions, and he has lost that good character and has a black mark against his name. It is something that will hang over his head for the rest of his life.”

Mr Auty said Satpal Ruprah, 31, of Highfield Drive, Sutton Coldfield, had used two businesses he ran in Birmingham as cover for his involvement in the drugs smuggling.

Satpal Ruprah pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy to supply class B and C drugs, and a further charge of conspiracy to acquire criminal property.

He was jailed for a total of six-and-a-half years. Balraj Bhatia, mitigating for Satpal Ruprah, who also had no previous convictions, said: “He feels utterly ashamed that he has let down the good name of his family, and lost his own good name.”

Judge Jeremy Lea said: “Each of you played a leading role. You were both buying and supplying on a commercial scale. You did so with expectation of significant financial gain.”

After the case, DC Andrew Gerus, from Notts Police’s anti-drugs Operation Vanguard, said: “Pritpal Ruprah was essentially the regional distributor for a much larger operation that sourced and supplied drugs across the UK.

“He lavished his money around, buying expensive gifts, cars and holidays for people – all from the proceeds of this criminal enterprise.

“But despite this obvious wealth he left no financial footprint, the flat he lived in was in someone else’s name and other people’s bank accounts were used to transfer money.

“Despite appearing to be a legitimate businessman, Satpal Ruprah invested money into the illicit operation, documenting transactions and deals that took place.”

Six "Asian" men jailed for more than 30 years for heroin ring

Six "Asian" men jailed for more than 30 years for heroin ring | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Three men from Gloucester are among six people who have been handed prison terms of more than 30 years for their roles in a heroin ring.

The convictions of six men from the city and Greater Manchester follows an operation by Gloucestershire Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.

Gloucestershire Constabulary

The offenders all admitted their part in the ring during previous court appearances, and were sentenced today at Preston Crown Court.

Drugs seized during the investigation had a potential street value of more than £1 million.

Detective Inspector Neil Carpenter, of Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: “This investigation started back in September last year and, working with our colleagues in SOCA, we have disrupted a significant heroin supply ring.

“This operation targeted both those bringing drugs into the county, and those then supplying it on to the streets, so we tackled the supply chain from top to bottom. A number of other people are already serving prison sentences or are awaiting court appearances for their involvement in this heroin gang.

“It’s a great example of cross border and cross agency cooperation, and demonstrates the capability of the Constabulary to combat major crime both alone and with other agencies.

“We’re pleased the six offenders are now getting their just desserts and that we’ve taken a substantial amount of heroin, which was destined for sale on the UK’s streets, out of circulation.”

Matt Burton, SOCA’s North West Head of Investigations, said: “Partnerships at a local and national level are vital if we are to tackle the drug chain from one end to the other and protect the public. In this case the amount of heroin seized – enough for over 100,000 street deals – would have caused misery for families and communities. These criminals are not only behind bars where they belong; they have been denied substantial profits.”

The six offenders sentenced were:

Habibul Islam, 24, of St. Michael’s Square, Gloucester. He admitted cnspiracy to supply heroin and was sentenced to five years and seven months imprisonment.

Gias Miah, 29, of Harescombe Drive, Gloucester. He admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and was sentenced to seven years and eight months imprisonment.

Mohammed Azfal Miah, 25, of Bleinhem Road, Gloucester. He admitted money laundering and was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment.

Mohammed Hanif, 39, of Reservoir Street, Rochdale. He admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and was sentenced to five years and five months imprisonment.

Stephan Caldwell, 24, of Park Road, Oldham. He admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and was sentenced to seven years and four months imprisonment.

Raja Miah, 27, of Gowers Street, Rochdale. He admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and was sentenced to four years and one month imprisonment.

The investigation into the gang’s activities started last summer and in September 2011 a car being driven by Mohammed Miah was stopped on the M5 motorway, travelling north between junctions 10 and 9.

Within the car were two large bags of cash, with abnormally large deposits of heroin on the notes.

Later that month, in Rochdale, Habibul Islam and Raja Miah were seen with Mohammed Hanif involved in exchanging drugs, and 11.2kg of heroin was recovered.

Covert investigations were able to establish links between all the gang members and forensic evidence also linked Stephan Caldwell to the drugs.

While 11.2kg of heroin were seized, the amount the gang pleaded guilty to supplying 1.3kg of the drug.

Yazeid Osama Aqqad, 24, of Alfreton Road, Radford, touched one boy when he was sitting on his lap on two occasions and abused another boy after inviting him to sit on his lap.

The mother of the two boys has been “vilified” by the Muslim community for reporting the assaults, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

She has been subjected to “a number of unpleasant incidents” including an episode at her home and damage to her car, Sarah Knight, prosecuting, said.

The mother told the court she felt the acts were aimed at encouraging her to withdraw the allegations because in the eyes of the Muslim community, she had committed a sin.

Aqqad denied the offences during his trial, but was found guilty unanimously of three allegations of sexual assault on a male child under the age of 13 years.

Judge Andrew Hamilton disqualified him from working with children and ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

Muslim leaders in Nottingham who were contacted by the Post condemned Aqqad’s actions and said the mother was absolutely right to report him.

Councillor Mohammed Ibrahim, who represents Berridge ward on the city council said: “There are people in every community who break laws and if someone is found to have broken the law, they should be punished.”

Ali Koc: Sadistic killer is jailed for life after battering two OAPs to death and attacking five others in north London | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Turkish Ali Koc, pictured, pounced on his victims during a 'wanton' crime spree - described as 'violence for violence’s sake' - in parks and woodland close to his home.

A man who battered two pensioners to death and attacked five others with a 'caveman's club' was jailed for life today for his string of 'senseless' assaults.
Turkish Ali Koc, 30, pounced on his victims during a 'wanton' crime spree - described as 'violence for violence’s sake' - in parks and woodland close to his home.
One of two elderly men who died from attacks had been out on a routine morning walk which 'cost him his life', prosecutors said.

Sentencing Koc at Woolwich Crown Court, south-east London, Mr Justice Calvert-Smith told him the unprovoked attacks illustrated the 'diverse nature of London’s population and the best and worst of its citizens'.
Koc, 30, beat his victims with lumps of wood, before head butting, punching and kicking them.
Earlier this week, he was found guilty of the two murders and five other attacks on men who were either out jogging or dog walking.

Ministers’ war over jailed SAS hero

Ministers’ war over jailed SAS hero | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

TWO ministers wage a public battle over Sgt Danny Nightingale — as his wife goes to No10 to beg for his freedom.

TWO ministers yesterday waged a public battle over jailed SAS hero Danny Nightingale — as his wife went to No10 to beg the PM to free him.
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond appealed for Attorney General Dominic Grieve to examine whether locking up Sgt Nightingale for having an illegal war trophy pistol is in the public interest.
But Mr Grieve, the Government’s chief law officer, snubbed the plea — claiming his intervention would be “inappropriate”. And David Cameron’s backed him, his spokesman saying: “It’s not for the Government to intervene in the finding of a court.”
The refusal to back Sgt Nightingale, 37, jailed for 18 months by a court martial for having a pistol that grateful Iraqis gave him, infuriated MPs.

Tory John Baron, an ex-Army officer, said: “Considering Sgt Nightingale’s proud service, reviewing his case is the least we can do in return.
“If the Government does nothing it could be charged with just wanting to turn its back on someone who has served his country.”
Fellow Tory Julian Brazier said the sniper’s wife Sally and her two daughters could now face eviction because Sgt Nightingale’s pay has been stopped so they cannot afford their mortgage. He told the Commons: “There is no military covenant for them this Christmas.”
Mr Grieve’s refusal was a huge blow to Sally, 38, who yesterday went to No10 to hand in letters written by her and daughter Mara, five, asking the PM to intervene. Sally said afterwards: “I now know No10 is listening.”

Meanwhile, this lot is for sale on eBay...

STOLEN military kit worth millions is being sold on websites like eBay — but only a handful of members of the Armed Forces have ever been jailed.
The shock figures make a mockery of the 18-month prison sentence handed to hero SAS sniper Sgt Nightingale for possessing a trophy gun.

Thefts from Army, Navy and RAF bases have soared to £2million of gear per year.
Military cops recovered £1.4million worth flogged online in the past four years — including weapon and missile parts, a Freedom of Information Act request reveals.

The Operation Embroil military police team that trawls the internet has made 102 arrests since 2008 — but secured only 25 convictions.
Last year Thomas Biddlestone, 26, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was convicted of selling £58,000 worth of MoD kit on eBay — but avoided jail.

Manchester Al Qaida Terrorist Recalled To Prison

Manchester Al Qaida Terrorist Recalled To Prison | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A Muslim extremist fanatic who was convicted of terrorism charges back in 2008 and sentenced to 10 years in prison was released on licence after serving just less than 3 years of his sentence, has been now recalled for breaching his early release conditions.

Ex taxi driver Habib Ahmed 32 of Cheetham Hill Manchester, was serving the sentence for being an active member of the terror group Al Qaida, and the possession of documentation of terror related purposes, Habib was also found attempting to smuggle coded secret books to the UK, which held contacts, and phone numbers to key figures of the terrorist underworld, and was a key to any potential UK terrorist massacre.

Greater Manchester Police and Special Branch officers, from the UK secret services intercepted Habib’s plans to attempt to bring the two secret books heading from Pakistan via Dubai with plans.

Habid was discovered with diaries written in invisible ink, containing details of senior Al Qaida terrorists, and was described at Manchester Crown Court as a ‘Terrorist contact booklet.’

It is also believed Habib downloaded a document called “a study of assassination”; he also looked up bomb-making techniques and checked the addresses of ex-Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon, military bases, and senior policemen.

Habib was also jailed with his assailant from Rochdale, Rangzieb Ahmed, who was the first ever terrorist to be jailed in the UK, Ahmed was also handed a jail sentence for the minimum of 10 years for directing terrorist activity within the mainland.

Part of Habib’s early release licence were strict conditions and observations from Greater Manchester Police, the licence was quickly breached, it has been established that Habib was held after he began worshipping at an unauthorised mosque and bought an unauthorised mobile phone.

Mr Mercer, an ex-Army colonel, said: “We have a terrorist released unusually early from prison and what does he do? He says ‘Thank you’.
“It’s a blunder by the licensing board and questions must be asked why they deemed him fit to be free after three tenths of his sentence” Mr Mercer concluded.

Gary Tumulty Salford British National Party Organiser also said “The first question I would like to an answer to is what an unauthorised mosque is?
“It is total madness to let a known terrorist be let out of prison; we have the biggest single event to hit the UK shortly, The Olympics, which some of the events happen to take place in Manchester, The authorities have breached the public’s safety by allowing such a person to walk the streets, who would be only to happy to cause a massive atrocity to this country.

“There is no real deterrent in this legal system, he should be deported or hung, I just hope the people who have dumbed down the legal system in this country get their comeuppance, because when the British National Party take control of this country we will hold every single one of them accountable for their actions, that have destroyed this country” Gary Concluded.

It is believed Habib was arrested at the home of wife Mehreen Haji, 31, where he was staying, who coincidently was arrested back in September 2006 and charged with supplying £4,000 to Habib Ahmed "knowing or having reasonable suspicion that it would, or might be used for the purposes of terrorism".

Police also claimed the pair were members of Al-Muhajiroun, the Islamic militant group founded by radical Muslim cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed who was then serving a jail sentence for inciting terrorism.

Mehreen Haji was cleared of two counts of arranging funding for the purposes of terrorism; there was not enough evidence to support the police claims which allowed her to walk free from the court.

Habib Ahmed will now face a hearing to see whether he must serve the rest of his licence behind bars. No date has been announced, but rest assured the British National Party will be following this case very closely.

Islamic school teacher sexually abused children over 22 years

Islamic school teacher sexually abused children over 22 years | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

At Harrow Crown Court, Hasnain Manji admitted seven counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, six counts of sexual activity with a boy and two counts of indecent assault.

The first crime happened as long ago as November 1989, when Manji attacked a 12-year-old boy. The victim is now in his 30s.

Manji, from Hertfordshire, continued to prey on children until finally being exposed by a victim he abused in the 10 months up until May 2011.

Scotland Yard got involved when the child’s mother contacted them, after being told of the abuse

Manji was a tutor at weekends for several years at the Islamic Centre in Stanmore.

Last Friday (June 8), he was jailed for five years and placed for life on the child sex register.

Detective Constable Rachel Snow, of the Met Police’s child abuse investigation command, said: “This man waited until these young boys were alone before assaulting them whilst they were vulnerable.

“The first two victims suffered in silence for many years trying to put what happened to them at the back of their minds. I commend the bravery of the victims for coming forward. Justice has been done as this man received his sentence, ensuring that no other innocent child shall suffer in his hands in the future.”

Police fear more victims of Manji may have not reported abuse. A special hotline has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). Call: 0808 800 5000.

Man jailed after Burnley sex assault

Man jailed after Burnley sex assault | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A MAN, who sexually assaulted a woman on her way home on New Years Eve 2010, has been sentenced to 32 months imprisonment.
Tahmoor Abid Hussain, of Princess Street, Nelson, who was 19 at the time of the offence, appeared at Burnley Crown Court today (Wednesday 6 June) after pleading guilty to sexual assault by penetration at an earlier hearing.
Hussain approached the 28-year-old victim who was walking home alone around 8pm on Friday 31 December 2010 near to Gannow Top, Burnley.
He started speaking to her before pushing her to the ground and subjecting her to a 20 minute attack before she managed to escape.
PC Jane Gregson said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked attack on a young lady who was simply walking home.
“Hussain maintained his innocence throughout the case, insisting he was the victim of mistaken identity. However, following lengthy investigations and extensive evidence gathering, he finally admitted his involvement in this violent crime and will now have to face the consequences of his actions.
“Fortunately his guilty plea meant that his victim did not have to endure giving evidence in court.”

Illegal immigrant killed Leeds couple drink driving at 100mph on Stanningley bypass

Illegal immigrant killed Leeds couple drink driving at 100mph on Stanningley bypass | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

AN ILLEGAL immigrant has been jailed for nine years after he killed a couple in Leeds when he ploughed into the back of their car at a speed approaching 100mph while drunk.

Eduard Mereohra smashed into the back of David and Dorothy Metcalf’s Fiat on New Year’s Day, forcing it 10ft into the air and causing it to flip end over end before coming to rest.

Mr Metcalf, 68, was killed instantly while his 65-year-old wife was found hanging out of the rear passenger window and later died.

Mereohra had been out drinking on New Year’s Eve and the following morning was collecting parcels in his car with a passenger.

Leeds Crown Court was told how several witnesses had earlier seen him driving at speed, tailgating motorists and forcing them to brake sharply when he overtook them.

Mereohra, from Moldova, who had entered the country illegally on two occasions, was driving along the Stanningley bypass in his Volvo C70 when he crashed into the back of the couple’s car.

The court was told he was twice the drink-drive limit having attended a New Year’s Eve party, later telling police he had drunk beer, whisky and champagne.

Mereohra, 26, ran away from the scene of the accident after initially approaching the wrecked vehicle, and lied in police interviews about who was behind the wheel, the court was told.

Judge Geoffrey Marson said Mereohra had “callously” tried to blame Mr Metcalf for causing the accident and had done “almost everything you could to protect yourself”.

He described the victims as “decent and hard-working”, who had “everything in their retirement to look forward to”.

He added: “You had been drinking heavily throughout the night and early in the morning that dreadful day.

“You were driving your motor car and were collecting parcels at 11 in the morning.

“You have been described as being ‘very drunk’. There then followed a prolonged, persistent and deliberate course of very bad driving at a time when you were about twice the legal limit for driving.

“I emphasise deliberate because the evidence shows that on the dual carriageway you were driving close behind a number of other vehicles, overtaking them at speed and cutting sharply in front of them causing them to brake.

“This was otherwise a clear dual carriageway and the only conclusion I can draw is that in your drunken state you had made a deliberate decision to drive aggressively in relation to other motor vehicles at that time. Your motor car was a weapon achieving a speed of 90mph-100mph in a 60mph limit.”

Mereohra, 26, from Autumn Grove, Burley, admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

After the case, Deborah Martin of solicitor Irwin Mitchell said: “This is an extremely tragic accident that led to the deaths of a much-loved couple. Eduard Mereohra’s reckless behaviour has torn this family apart by stealing David and Dorothy from their two children and grandchildren.

“It is a relief for the Metcalf family that Eduard has been jailed for 9 years and will return to his native Moldova once his sentence is served.”

Mr and Mrs Metcalf’s son and daughter Clive and Lindsay said in a statement: “We would like to thank those members of the public who stopped to help our parents. Unfortunately, the accident was so severe that there was nothing they could do to save them. What those people saw that day will no doubt live with them for the rest of their lives – more lives affected by the selfish actions of one person.

“No sentence will ever be long enough for the person who changed our lives forever on New Year’s Day 2012, when he took away our parents and our children’s grandparents, through his thoughtless, dangerous and illegal actions.

“We have been told that he is sorry, but we simply cannot accept that as a genuine apology.

“Having been deported from the UK once before he chose to return to this country illegally; he chose to drink all night and get behind the wheel of his car; he chose to drive erratically and at extremely high speed, weaving in and out of traffic; he chose to flee the scene of this horrific incident and when questioned by the police, denied being the driver of the vehicle and refused to be tested for alcohol.

“Given those circumstances, we think the only thing he is sorry about is that he was caught.

“Mum and Dad were hardworking, honest taxpayers who had planned responsibly for their retirement and should have had 20-plus more years to enjoy together.

“We were a very close family and we are lost without them. This incident has shocked the community and devastated our family. We are still struggling to come to terms with our loss.

“On top of our grief, we also have a number of questions that we need the Government and the immigration authorities to answer about how Mereohra was able to exist in the UK without detection, especially after his previous deportation.

“While we hold Mereohra responsible for his actions, we feel that our beloved Mum and Dad would still be alive today if the system had not failed by allowing him to be at liberty in the UK.”

Two men jailed for sex offences on girl, 15 | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
TWO men have been jailed for their part in a horrific attack on a girl of 15.

The teenager was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted in Ravensthorpe. She was filmed being subjected to a series of sexual attacks over the course of one night in May last year.

Today, Ali Rehman, 26, of Tanhouse Street, Ravensthorpe, was jailed for 11 years for three counts of rape and one of attempted rape.

Faisar Younas, 23, of Myrtle Road, Ravensthorpe, was given a four year sentence for sexual activity with a child.

A third man, Larasab Hussain, 46, of Headfield Road, Savile Town will be sentenced in July after he admitted sexual assault.

All three appeared at Leeds Crown Court today.

They admitted their offences during a trial in March, when the court heard how parts of the night’s events were filmed on a mobile phone.

The girl was taken to the homes of Rehman and Younas and a third address, given alcohol and repeatedly sexually abused.

At one point she was too drunk to walk so Rehman carried her over his shoulder to Younas’ house, the court heard.

After today’s hearing Andrew Horton from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “This was a highly disturbing case in which the men preyed on a vulnerable child victim.

“The victim showed tremendous courage in coming forward and being prepared to give evidence at trial.

“We hope that the sentences handed down are some comfort to the victim and that she is now able to begin to rebuild her life.”

£40k arson scam lands Oswaldtwistle trader in jail

£40k arson scam lands Oswaldtwistle trader in jail | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

AN Oswaldtwistle shopkeeper who torched his store for an insurance payout of up to almost £40,000 has been jailed for four years.

Saddaqat Ali was found guilty of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered on August 11, 2010 and fraud between August and December 2010, after a week long trial at Burnley Crown Court.

The 40-year-old married father of four, who had claimed the blaze had nothing to do with him and denied the allegations, was sentenced yesterday, after the court waited for pre-sentenced and psychiatric reports.

Recorder Mark Ainsworth told Ali at a previous hearing: “A prison sentence was inevitable.”

Sitting at Preston Crown Court Recorder Ainsworth sentenced Ali, who had no previous convictions. During his trial the jury were told, how Ali, started the fire at the West End Convenience Store, Blackburn Road, Oswaldtwistle after removing valuable stock from the shelves.

He had been seen leaving the premises at about 10.30pm, by a neighbour who was also a regular customer.

Shortly after, the customer heard a popping sound from the shop.

Worried neighbours risked their lives trying to smash their way in with a sledge hammer, fearing people might be trapped inside.

Firefighters tackled the blaze and their investigation proved the fire had been started deliberately.

The court also heard Ali made a claim to his insurance company for damage and business interruption, saying he had been burgled. No cash was ever paid out.

Ali, of Perry Street, Darwen, who had leased the premises for a year at the time, claimed the business had been going well and he had been making a profit.

He insisted the shop had not been in trouble and claimed the first thing he knew about the blaze was the next morning, when he listened to voice messages from loss adjustors on his mobile phone.

Giving evidence, the defendant had told the court that he had left the shop at 9.30pm and had gone to the house of a woman he was having an affair with before driving home.
