Mum-of-one Saiba Khatoon - found knifed to death at Rochdale home - was 18 weeks pregnant

Mum-of-one Saiba Khatoon - found knifed to death at Rochdale home - was 18 weeks pregnant | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Saiba Khatoon, 26, had told friends of her delight that she was expecting her second child only hours before she was found dead at her home in Kirkholt.

A young mum found stabbed to death at her home was 18 weeks pregnant, we can reveal. Saiba Khatoon, 26, had told friends of her delight that she was expecting her second child only hours before she was found dead. Police were called to her house in Kirkholt, Rochdale, by paramedics after reports a woman had suffered stab wounds. Witnesses told how her eight-year-old son Faris, who she had from a previous marriage, was seen running out of the house and knocking on doors to raise the alarm at around 11.30pm on Monday. He eventually roused a next-door neighbour who went into the house in Darlington Road and discovered Saiba, it is understood. An ambulance was called but paramedics were unable to save her. A post-mortem was due to be to carried out last night. Ms Khatoon is believed to have worked as a care worker for the disabled. Shocked friends and neighbours said the young mum and son had seemed like ‘a happy family’. Friend Elisha Barnes, 26, said: "At about 11.30pm, the little boy was running over the road shouting and banging on the door. We’re all baffled as to what’s gone on. She was 18 weeks pregnant and had just started telling everyone. They always seemed like such a happy family. They mingled with everyone. "She used to give everyone presents at Christmas. She came to my wedding. For the last two years, we’ve been out celebrating her birthday. "She was very pretty – she was quite a girly girl. That little boy will be lost without his mum." A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "When I woke up their alarm was going off – their son came running over here and knocked on the door but we were asleep. "Then other neighbours heard and came and got him and then they went in and found her. They called police. I just can’t believe it. She was a really decent person. She’s got a lot of friends, she’s a top girl. She was always smiling – she was a really happy, sweet person." ≈ Siraj Arif, who is in his 30s, and who is believed to have been in a relationship with Saiba, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Rochdale child sex grooming case originally dropped

Rochdale child sex grooming case originally dropped | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Prosecutors and police explain why the initial investigation into under age sex grooming in Rochdale was wrongly dropped.

Three years ago, a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer dropped a rape case involving an under-age girl which could have left a sex grooming ring undetected for years.

The teenager was arrested outside a takeaway in Heywood in August 2008 for being disruptive.

She alleged one of the workers had groomed and then raped her.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigated Kabeer Hassan and another man, aged 59, but it was nearly a year later when a CPS lawyer decided to drop the case.

According to Nazir Afzal, chief prosecutor for the North West, the lawyer had viewed six hours of video testimony from the girl and also had DNA evidence, but decided "she would not be viewed as a credible witness by a jury".

Hassan and the other man, who cannot be named, have been convicted by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court with seven others, all from Greater Manchester, who groomed young girls for sex by plying them with drink and drugs.

The file of the girl's allegations was one of the first on Mr Afzal's desk when he started his new job in the summer of 2011 and he took "an immediate decision" to prosecute Hassan and the 59-year-old man.

'Wrong decision'
By then GMP's Operation Span, launched in December 2009, was under way investigating allegations from other under-age girls in the Rochdale and Heywood areas relating to the other defendants.

However, Mr Afzal maintains he would have charged both men even if the only evidence available had been that which led to the original case being dropped.

"I took the view that a jury would have found her a credible witness," he said.

"I regret that the wrong decision was made."

Mr Afzal said his decision to prosecute was based on 20 years experience including expertise in rape cases.

The CPS's dropping of the original case led police to stop all investigations, a decision that is now the subject of separate inquiry.

The original lawyer, whose decision was reviewed and backed by a CPS unit manager, has been taken off rape cases and is undergoing retraining.

The way GMP treated the 2008 allegations is at the centre of a managed investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

It was only after a second girl made similar claims in December 2009 that detectives began Operation Span.

Police went on to find more than 40 vulnerable and at risk girls across Rochdale and Heywood subjected to on-street grooming by a network of men, mostly takeaway employees and taxi drivers.

All five girls who were witnesses in the gang's conviction were known to social services at some stage in their lives.

GMP is not commenting directly on the IPCC inquiry, but Assistant Chief Constable Steven Heywood concedes the force has made mistakes.

"We apologise to anyone that has suffered due to any failing on our part, " he said.

"We probably could have done things better.

"We and other agencies are on a journey, we know more about this kind of crime than we did in 2008."

Jogging mugger runs off empty-handed after attempted armed robbery in Greenhead Park

A JOGGING mugger attempted to rob a dog walker in Greenhead Park but fled empty-handed.

A JOGGING mugger attempted to rob a dog walker in Greenhead Park but fled empty-handed.

Huddersfield CID are now appealing for witnesses to the crime on May 6.

At around 5am a 44-year old man was walking his dog through the park and was near the pond area when he noticed a man jogging behind him.

The dog walker carried on but was approached and grabbed by the jogger who placed a sharp implement at the victim's neck.

The robber demanded the man's mobile phone and a cigarette.

When the victim told the man that he had neither on him, the suspect ran off empty handed.

The robber is described as an Asian man in his late teens or early twenties and around 5ft 7ins tall.

He was of medium build, with straight black hair and a 'wispy' moustache. He was wearing a black shell suit jacket with white stripes down the sleeves, black bottoms or jeans and white trainers.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information is asked to contact DC Divek Ubhi at Huddersfield CID via 101.

Why do foreigners get all the jobs, asks Boris Johnson

Why do foreigners get all the jobs, asks Boris Johnson | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Boris Johnson is to launch an inquiry into why so many British jobs are being given to foreign workers.

In one of his first acts since being re-elected as Mayor of London, Mr Johnson today calls for “an honest and unflinching” investigation.

He promises to “expose the roots of the problem” and examine whether immigrants were prepared to work harder for less money or whether “native Londoners” had the wrong attitude to certain jobs.

Over the past two years unemployment has been rising and more than one in five 16 to 24-year-olds is currently out of work.

Writing in The Daily Telegraph he says: “London’s formidable job-creating powers do not always seem to involve the creation of jobs for native Londoners. Go into any coffee shop and talk to the staff, listen to the voices on the building sites — and you will see how the city is working as a magnet for talent and energy from outside the UK.”

However, the mayor ruled out introducing “quotas” banning employers from hiring foreign staff.

3,000 English Defence League supporters in Luton

3,000 English Defence League supporters in Luton | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Luton was flooded with 1,500 police as tensions mounted that the right wing organisation's supporters might clash with a counter demonstration by a group from Unite Against Fascism.

Bottles, fireworks and smoke bombs were set off as 1,500 officers tried to contain thousands of English Defence League supporters holding a protest march in Luton today.
The town centre was flooded with police as tensions mounted that the right wing organisation's members might clash with a counter demonstration by a 1,000-strong group from Unite Against Fascism at the same time in the usually busy shopping area.
Two people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences, police said.

Bedfordshire Police said the day of action had concluded peacefully, despite ‘isolated incidents’ of disorder including smoke flares being set off and bottles being thrown towards police officers.
The cost of the police operation is put at between £600,000 and £1million and for the council £600,000.

Bedfordshire Police and Luton council tried to send out the message that Luton was open as normal and encouraged shops in the Mall to remain open.
But many shoppers chose to ignore the advice, instead deciding to stay away amid fears violence might erupt.
A police spokeswoman said a group of people from the counter protest, which formed under the 'We Are Luton' banner, had attempted to break away from the main march but were pushed back by officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Andrew Richer said: ‘Overall the policing of these protests has been a resounding success and is testament to everyone involved including the community themselves and our partners.
‘It is disappointing that we saw disorder from some members of Unite Against Fascism, who were part of the 'We Are Luton' march, who attempted to break out of the agreed protest route. This shows policing of these events is justified as there is such a large area to protect.
‘The policing operation has been in the planning for weeks and the professionalism of the officers was borne out today. We were assisted by 20 forces and it's a great example of how forces can work together in difficult circumstances.
‘I'd like to thank everyone involved in the planning and execution of the operation, all our partner agencies and in particular the community mediators who volunteered to help us communicate.

'Their involvement really made a difference. I am confident the town is now back to normal and disruption has been minimised.’
Police said the two people arrested remained in police custody. A spokeswoman said one was an EDL supporter and the other from the 'We Are Luton' group.
Councillor Hazel Simmons, leader of Luton Borough Council, said: ‘I'd like to thank Bedfordshire Police, all the staff at the council and everyone in the community for coming together and again facilitating a peaceful day in Luton.
‘I was very disappointed that the EDL chose to come to Luton again today so soon after their previous protest in February last year which caused large scale disruption to the people of the town and loss of trade for its businesses.
‘I would like to stress that what happened in town today does not represent the real Luton. The Luton I know is a town where people get along well together, celebrate our diversity and work together to overcome challenges.’

Police were on duty to make sure EDL demonstrators did not enter the Bury Park area of Luton, where most of the town's 30,000 Muslim population live.
They also were there to prevent any Muslims attacking the EDL.
The EDL has held demonstrations across the country since it was formed in Luton in March 2009 as a response to Muslim radicals, who disrupted a home-coming parade by the Royal Anglian Regiment.
In February, last year, their demonstration in St George's Square in Luton cost businesses £1 million as the shopping centre was closed.

Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll Join British Freedom!

Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll Join British Freedom! | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

We are pleased to announce that Stephen Lennon (also known as Tommy Robinson) and Kevin Carroll of the English Defence League have joined the Executive Council of British Freedom.

Mr Lennon and Mr Carroll will share the role of Party Vice Chairman alongside Party Chairman Paul Weston.

This historic development marks the growing cooperation between British Freedom and the English Defence League, thus offering a political voice to the working men and women of this country who have effectively been betrayed by all the main parties – particularly the Labour Party.

The move establishes British Freedom as a new force in British politics – the only party with the strength and determination to call for Britain’s withdrawal from the unelected and totalitarian European Union, to confront militant Islam, halt mass immigration and defend democracy’s most vital ingredient – Free Speech.

British Freedom will also end the deliberately divisive policy of multiculturalism and reverse decades of destructive Political Correctness which exists only to promote division and Socialism – despite the appalling record of Socialist inspired mass murder, war, and the terrible economic, social and environmental carnage witnessed over the last century.

The popular movement that began in Luton three short years ago marked a decisive turning point in this country. It was the moment when British people began to reassert their national pride and identity and started to resist the forces that will, unless stopped, destroy the culture, traditions and precious freedoms of Great Britain that so many, so recently, gave their lives for.

Paul Weston, Stephen Lennon and Kevin Carroll will lead the Party’s assault on corruption, complacency and unaccountability in British (and EU) politics. Together they will provide a powerful voice to a British working class all but abandoned by the mainstream parties; to a middle class whose traditional values have come under relentless attack; and to Britain’s service and ex-service personnel – the ultimate defenders of freedom – who have all too often been taken for granted.

British Freedom will reassert the primacy of British law, culture, values and traditions as the necessary basis for establishing unity in a country increasingly riven by Leftist inspired racial, cultural and religious division.

Election overview - and the road ahead for the BNP

Election overview - and the road ahead for the BNP | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
How can Labour takes seats off us when Milliband is so unpopular? Is there something wrong with the British National Party or the public? The answer is that once the results are all in, Labour will be seen to have taken seats off everyone. And yet again, the plain truth is that this includes the BNP.

Why? Because voters wanted to punish the LibDems and teach the Tories a lesson, and because – since nationalism’s voter base is overwhelmingly working class, nationalist parties always do far better in elections when Labour is in power. When Labour is in opposition people unfortunately forget their misdeeds when in power. Many instinctively vote against Parties rather than for them.

Labour knows that people are unhappy about benefit and tax credit cuts. Public sector workers are concerned about their pensions. The ConDem austerity measures are deeply unpopular. People are voting against the ConDem coalition rather than for Labour.

Also crucial is that the last Labour government customised the entire voting system to their own benefit by allowing on demand postal votes to Labour's immigrant and hand-out society (both beneficiaries and bureaucrats) bases.

Labour has spent more than eight years on a relentless campaign to get their supporters and clients postal votes, and it works. Yet again, the average local election turn-out of about one third is made up of a 65 - 70% turn-out of postal voters and a mere 15% of people voting on the day.

This gives them a huge advantage over whichever party is challenging, including us. But, of course, when it comes to the British National Party, both Labour and its allies - including the hard-left, the establishment unions and the other parties - redouble their efforts to get us out and keep us out.

Old parties conspire to keep us out

In Pendle, for instance, where we were looking to defend one of our district seats, the LibDems pulled out to give their Coalition partners-in-crime a clear run to beat us. Such conniving is rare against any other party, and we can all take pride in the fact that they so fear us that they feel it necessary to deny the public the normal range of democratic choice in order to stop the British National Party winning.

In London, of course, the main way the old parties have conspired to try to shut us out has simply been by replacing the population that could well vote for us with immigrants who are guaranteed to vote for the politicians who have let them in and pushed them to the front of every queue possible.

Elsewhere, however, the main weapon of Labour dominance is their slow, steady, relentless 365-day-a-year postal vote harvesting operation. The LibDems had a fair stab at it, but have been so damaged by their role in the ruling coalition that even their postal vote head-start isn't now enough to save them in many places.

Similarly, when Labour was in government up until 2009, Blair's unpopularity nationally served to disguise how they were steadily piling up postal votes. Now, even though Milliband isn't exactly Man of the Moment, the combination of their block vote with their status of opposition to a failing government means that they are ideally placed to win in the low turnout elections that result from a general disgust with politicians and hence the political process as a whole.

Early days

The only thing wrong with the BNP is that, although we learned the lesson of Labour's postal vote mastery two years ago, we have not yet applied that lesson with enough effort, in enough places, or for long enough, to have caught up with Labour in their areas, or to overtake the LibDems or Tories in theirs.

Don't worry! LibDem and Tory seats will become more and more vulnerable to us as the economy unravels and as more and more Conservative voters realise just how much of a liberal wet David Cameron really is.

Labour seats too will also come within our grasp once again as voters work out that they are being hit not just by ConDem decisions at national level, but also by the incompetence and anti-British agenda of Labour councils. All we need to level the playing field is 500 postal votes in every target ward.

It sounds a lot, but last month we registered 270 postal votes in Goresbrook ward in just a month, to give us a comfortable second place with more votes than the Tories, UKIP and the LibDems combined. But although that's a good start, a month isn't long enough to win an election. It's taken Labour eight years to build their postal vote blocks, so we have to be realistic and accept that it will take us at least a couple of years of solid work to match them.

The Long March

We have to understand that we face a long march before we are able to be effective challengers to the Labour machine. It can be done, and it will be done. Victory isn't a matter of policy trimming or changing who we are, it's just a matter of door-knocking and mathematics. Sign up enough postal voters and we'll win, or don't bother, and lose.

First, all our volunteers deserve a couple of weeks rest. Then we'll be stepping up the training, collecting petition signatures and postal votes (the two things have to go together), working to expand our organisation, and getting out with more of our lightning demonstrations to stand up for our people and get the publicity we need to spread our message of hope.

Thanks to our loyal and unshakeable support base, we've achieved a great deal in these elections. Our three mayoral candidates, Eddy O'Sullivan in Salford, Mike Whitby in Liverpool and Carlos Cortiglia in London have all had some fantastic publicity, particularly on radio.

Our London campaign in particular has led to a huge amount of exposure for our brilliant Heart for Britain logo, not just in the capital but also nationwide. This has now forced the media to accept that they have to use this vastly superior logo when they illustrate us, instead of pretending that the old demonised logo is still ours. This alone is a huge advance.

Love the Logo

Out of all the political logos in Britain, only UKIP's and ours are good. Theirs is about money - which is very fitting for a party run by spivs and backed as a false flag operation by the BBC. Ours is about love. Love for our country and our people. That's why getting it fixed in the public's mind has been such an important goal, and one which this election has helped with enormously.

Millions of mayoral booklets. Hundreds of thousands of special papers. Vast quantities of leaflets. The total eclipse of all the little, fringe nationalist 'parties' out there whose two-bit 'leaders' thought they could muscle in on all our hard work. More, positive radio and TV airtime for the British National Party than ever. We couldn't have bought all the publicity we've secured over the last month thanks to all our donors, candidates and activists.

We have reached out to many more people who will strengthen our activist and donor base. Areas that have not been touched by Nationalist publicity material in decades have been rekindled. Already we are reaping the benefit of this with new enquiries, members and donations.

We’ve shown that we can mount huge and demanding campaigns all over our country. One side benefit has been the number of ‘old fighters’ who have renewed their membership and commitment to our country. The campaign has shown them that we are very much alive and kicking.

No debts – we move forward

The final piece of good news is that we've done all this out of current income, without eating into the several very large bequests currently in the pipeline to our party. We've run a great campaign, leaving all our would-be rivals standing, without any of the debts that we were saddled with in past efforts.

When even the BBC grudgingly admits that we've got over the crisis of a year or so ago, you know that we've come through the dark times. Now we're ready for a summer of rebuilding. A year of expansion and entrenchment. A time in which we shift our short-term focus somewhat from elections to demonstrations and street activities designed to keep us in the public eye as tireless campaigners for our people’s rights.

A time when we are going to settle down to work to show that top Tory Lord Astor is right when he warns that the proposed reform of the House of Lords could easily put at least ten British National Party members into Parliament in Westminster.

The British National Party is united and determined. We have a long-term view of our struggle. We have the skills, we have the resources, and we have the people. We are building a winning team – be part of it.

Pro-Muslim, Anti-Fascist, Leftists got the crap beaten out of them by Muslims

Pro-Muslim, Anti-Fascist, Leftists got the crap beaten out of them by Muslims | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

What we didn’t know about the Muslim protests against the right wing Pro-NRW party anti-Islam cartoon contest the other day.

Islam vs Europe Ah, a chance to use that excellent German word Schadenfreude.

On 1 May in Solingen, the German anti-Islam movement PRO NRW (Pro North Rhine Westphalia) held a demonstration. Hundreds of assorted Muslims and far-left extremists turned up to harass and intimidate them. Two of these “antifascists” found themselves in the midst of a horde of Salafist Muslims, who promptly started beating them up with bits of wood. Even after they were lying helpless and passive on the ground, the Muslims kept laying into them. One was badly hurt in the head; the other in the arm. Both required hospital treatment.

Apparently it wasn’t a failure of recognition either.

The Muslims knew that these were leftist anti-fascists who had come to protest against the “islamophobes”. They beat them up anyway.

On Indymedia, the Antifa activists are whining about what happened, wondering whether they should organise a protest against the Salafists, but say they’re worried they may not get permission.

Permission ? Who’s running these people ?

Britain deserves far better than this rule by Brussels

Britain deserves far better than this rule by Brussels | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

NOT only is the European Union going in a direction that the vast majority of British people find unacceptable but it is doing so at an accelerating rate.

Anyone would think that preparing to create a “fiscal union” in which the vast majority of member nations surrender control over tax and spending policies to Eurocrats would prove sufficient to sate their appetite for extra power. But it is not.

Now it has emerged that the so-called “Berlin Group” of senior Europhile politicians are locked in talks about how to create a dominant single President of Europe who would hold sway over national leaders.

For many years pro-EU politicians in Britain lied about the plan to create a United States of Europe, claiming it was a figment of the imaginations of opponents whom they smeared as xenophobes. There is no denying it now.

The EU has become a monstrous bureaucratic entity that undermines prosperity and sucks the lifeblood from participating democracies. If those living on the European mainland are willing to tolerate it then they are foolish but it is up to them.

What is no longer tolerable is the spectacle of Britain being dragged towards a dismal fate as an outpost of a European empire nobody ever voted for.

Threatened with death, Afghan woman seeks safety with US Marines

Threatened with death, Afghan woman seeks safety with US Marines | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Women in Afghanistan have been put to death for a myriad of reasons: failure to wear a burqa; walking solo in public; being raped, etc.

The latest infraction to be added to the litany of executable acts -- talking to a boy on a cell phone.

As reported by WBUR radio, an Afghan woman who appeared to be in her late teens was promised by her brothers with death for having a cell phone conversation with a male.

As reported by the Boston radio station, the young woman who goes by the pseudonym "Lina" stated:

"My older brother took the cellphone from me and beat me very badly.

It was dinnertime. They told me that they would execute me after dinner.

They said to me this would be my last meal."

According to Lina, the threat of being put to death by her own brothers wasn't the only reason she decided to take drastic and immediate action -- she was also being beaten and raped by an in-law on a regular basis.

Being a product of her environment, Lina was horrified at the mere thought of fleeing for her life:

"I was terrified to think of running away from home, but suddenly a voice from inside told me to flee before my brothers killed me.

Maybe the devil made me do it.

I took one of their cloaks and wrapped it around me to look like a man.

Then I slipped out of the house and started walking to the foreigner's base nearby."

Tell It To The Marines...

It was at this time that Lina came under the overall protection of the United States Marine Corps and the specific guardianship of Major Jennifer Larsen, USMC.

According to Major Larsen:

"She approached the gate. When they realized she was in danger, they took her in.

[T]he guards at the gate saw the same car passing again and again.

Each time it drew near, Lina looked petrified.

They took her to a doctor who discovered fresh bruises on her back and knees from the beating."

The Major went on to state:

"She wanted to get away from where she was.

Anytime you asked her a question, her answer was, 'Do I have to go back?'

Our answer at the time was 'no,' and we had to figure out how to keep that promise."

No Place Like Home...

However, Afghan advisors have informed the Marines that in order to retain the sense of honor for both the family and the local community, Lina must immediately be returned home.....

Another 'Depraved' pair locked up for grooming girl, 13, for sex

Another 'Depraved' pair locked up for grooming girl, 13, for sex | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Two men who shared a 13-year-old Bradford schoolgirl for sex after she was bribed with alcohol, cigarettes and money have been jailed.

Two men who shared a 13-year-old Bradford schoolgirl for sex after she was bribed with alcohol, cigarettes and money have been jailed.

Shabir Ahmed, 39 – branded “a dangerous, predatory paedophile” by a judge – was locked up for ten years and must spend an extra four on extended licence.

Munwar Khan, 42, who paid the girl £20 for sex, was imprisoned for three years and four months.

Ahmed forced the girl’s older sister to watch them having sex at his flat in Windsor Court, Little Horton, Bradford, and was seen by her horrified aunt having intercourse with her through his open curtains, Bradford Crown Court heard.

The aunt told the jury of witnessing a “naked, pot-bellied, 40-year-old man” having sex with her young niece.

Ahmed was convicted last Friday of three offences of having sex with the girl, grooming her, two offences of indecently assaulting her vulnerable adult sister and nine of having obscene child pornography on his computer.

Khan, of Morley Street, Bradford, pleaded guilty to two offences of having sex with the girl.

Ahmed has a conviction for indecently assaulting a girl of 13 in his car after plying her with alcohol.

He was jailed for 30 months in 2005 and ordered to sign on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC said yesterday the men’s victim was from a respected, traditional, Asian family.

One of her abusers had given her chlamydia and Ahmed threatened to petrol bomb her family home if she or her sister told on him.

The men were arrested when the girl’s pink bra was found in Khan’s bed and a bag containing her school uniform at his home.

The judge told Ahmed he had turned “a bright, successful, confident, girl” into “an appallingly damaged child”.

“You are a dangerous, predatory paedophile, targeting, watching and abusing vulnerable children,” he said.

Ahmed turned up at Lister Park, Manningham, Bradford, in the summer of 2010 in one of his expensive cars and “chatted up” the schoolgirl and her older sister.

He groomed the young girl, who looked only nine or ten, until she thought of him as “her very best friend”, said the judge.

Ahmed took photos and made videos of his sex acts with the girl and took her to places where there were only adult Asian men present.

One phone video showed him trying to persuade her to strip off in front of other men.

She went missing for days on end and Ahmed took her out of school.

“You took her virginity and cleverly and wickedly manipulated her,” Judge Durham Hall said.

“Your arrogance is startling as indeed is the depth of your depravity.”

Sentencing Khan, Judge Durham Hall acknowledged that he did not corrupt the girl or ply her with alcohol and cigarettes. He also had no convictions for any similar offences.

After the case, Detective Constable Jazz Gill, of Bradford South CID, said: “This case indicates our continued determination in removing those within our communities who prey on the young and vulnerable.

“Ahmed and Khan both used their position of trust as an adult to take advantage of their victim.

“Both have reached the depths of depravity in their actions and I hope today's outcome offers some justice to the families involved.”

'You preyed on girls because they were not part of your community or religion', says judge as he jails Rochdale sex gang for 77 years

'You preyed on girls because they were not part of your community or religion', says judge as he jails Rochdale sex gang for 77 years | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Nine members of the Rochdale sex grooming gang were given jail terms totalling 77 years today - sentences ranged from 19 years to four years.

Nine 'pure evil' men who abused girls as young as 13 were today jailed for a total of 77 years for their roles in a child sex grooming ring. Following an 11-week trial, a jury found the nine men, from Rochdale and Oldham, guilty of several counts of sexual abuse over a two-year period. They were convicted on the back of evidence from five girls, who were as young as 13 when the abuse happened between 2008 and 2010. The vulnerable girls, some of them runaways or in the care of social services, were given the attention they craved before being plied with drink, raped and driven all over the north to have sex with other men. Today the men were all jailed at Liverpool Crown Crown.

A 59-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was jailed for 19 years convicted of two counts of rape, one sex assault, one of trafficking and conspiracy. Kabeer Hassan, 24, of Lacrosse Avenue, Oldham, was jailed for nine years after he was convicted of rape and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child. Abdul Aziz, 41, of Armstrong Hurst Close, Rochdale, was jailed for nine years after he was convicted of trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child. He was also cleared of two counts of rape but Abdul Rauf, 43, of Darley Road, Rochdale, was jailed for six years after being convicted of trafficking and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child. Mohammed Sajid, 35, of Jepheys Street, Rochdale, was jailed for 12 years after he was convicted of conspiracy, sexual activity with a child, rape and trafficking. Earlier in the trial the jury was ordered to find him not guilty of one rape charge. Adil Khan, 42, of Oswald Street, Rochdale, was jailed for eight years after he was convicted of conspiracy and trafficking. Abdul Qayyum, 43, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, was jailed for five years after he was convicted of conspiracy. Mohammed Amin, 44, of Falinge Road, Rochdale, was jailed for five years after he was found guilty of sex assaults and conspiracy. Hamid Safi, 22, of Kensington Street, Rochdale, was jailed for four years after he was convicted of trafficking and conspiracy. He was also found not guilty of two counts of rape.

All the convicted men have been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Jailing the nine men Judge Gerald Clifton said: "You have all been convicted by the jury after a long trial of grave sexual offences which were committed between the spring of 2008 and 2010. "These involved the grooming and sexual exploitation of several girls, aged in their early teens. "In some cases those girls were raped, callously, viciously and violently. "Some of you acted as you did to satiate your lust, some of you to make money, all of you treated them as though they were worthless and beyond respect. "I believe that one of the factors that led to that was that they were not of your community or religion." The court heard most of the men are from Rochdale's Pakistani community and were married with children. They worked as taxi drivers or in the Tasty Bites and Balti House in Heywood where some of the victims were given free kebabs and vodka as they were groomed for sex. The trial heard how the men abused a string of white girls. Judge Gerald Clifton added: “In some cases they were driven around Rochdale and Oldham to be made to have sex with paying customers. “Most of you were many years older than they were. They were going through a period in their lives full of difficulty and misery. “One had left her parents' home. Another had been in care for many years. “You attracted them to your company by flattery, free food and alcohol. “Some of you raised in the trial the suggestion that this prosecution was triggered by racial factors. That's so much nonsense. “As I have said what triggered this prosecution was your lust and greed." Judge Clifton, jailed the 59-year-old man for 19 years, described him as an "unpleasant and hypocritical bully". He said Kabeer Hassan had "slyly" tried to throw police off the scent during his interview. Abdul Aziz was an "intelligent man" who had "coerced" girls into having sex with men, said Judge Clifton. The judge described Abdul Rauf as a "deeply hypocritical individual" while he said Adil Khan was also "hypocritical". The judge said Hamid Safi would be deported at the end of the proceedings, telling him "I believe you were there to attract young girls because of your own youth that gave a veneer of respectability to another wise suspect set up. You had no right to be in this country. Detectives say the victims were targeted because they were vulnerable and available, not because they were white. Following the convictions, it has now emerged that police believe up up to 47 girls may have been abused by the men, although only five were willing to give evidence during trial. Detectives also believe there could be up to 50 other men who took part in the grooming but remain at large. After the convictions, Det Chf Supt Mary Doyle, described the defendants as 'pure evil'. She said: "These offences are the worst offences you can possibly imagine against vulnerable young children. "Let's not shy away from the fact the victims are children. It was an incredibly difficult and complex case to investigate not least because of the amount of support the victims understandably required throughout. "It was pure evil. They were exploiting the vulnerable in our society for their own gratification. "They groomed their victims who introduced them to other girls. They thought it was a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. "They would supply them with alcohol and kebabs and free taxi rides and actually some of the girls thought they were in a genuine relationship. It was sustained. "They were raped and subjected to humiliation and degradation. You cannot think of a worse set of offences. In some instance it was several men at a time. These girls were just passed around other men. "People deal with things in a different way. How this is going to manifest itself with the individuals concerned, I would suggest each one is very different. "This sends out a clear message that we are willing to investigate and will investigate these kinds of offences until these people are brought to justice." The prosecution's main witness first came to the police in August, 2008. While spending the next eleven months investigating her allegations, she and other girls were continuing to be abused. The Crown Prosecution Service concluded the girl was 'not credible' and two men who had been arrested were released without charge. The abuse continued until May, 2010, when police decided to revisit the case. Greater Manchester Police and the CPS have now apologised.

Grooming offences committed mostly by Asian men, says ex-Barnardo's chief

Grooming offences committed mostly by Asian men, says ex-Barnardo's chief | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Martin Narey urges inquiry into why Pakistanis and Afghans are 'overrepresented' in child exploitation crimes in northern towns.

The former head of Barnardo's has said that street grooming of teenage girls for sex in the north of England appears to be carried out "overwhelmingly" by men of Pakistani and Afghan origin and has called for an investigation into the issue.

Martin Narey's comments came as nine men – one from Afghanistan and the rest with Pakistani backgrounds – await sentencing for being part of a child exploitation gang that passed vulnerable girls around a group of men for sex in the Heywood area of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, in 2008 and 2009.

Narey told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "For this particular type of crime, the street grooming of teenage girls in northern towns … there is very troubling evidence that Asians are overwhelmingly represented in the prosecutions for such offences."

Narey said he did not know the reason for the "over-representation" of men of Pakistani and Afghan origin and rejected the idea they were specifically targeting white girls. He suggested that vulnerable girls on the streets were more likely to be white, while Asian girls subjected to strict parenting were more likely to be at home and so less prone to fall victim to such crimes.

He added: "I'm not saying this is just Asian or Pakistani men … [but] street trafficking in the north does appear be overwhelmingly about Pakistani and Afghan men."

Security outside Liverpool crown court, where the nine men were tried, was stepped up after hundreds of English Defence League and BNP protesters picketed the court.

Facing the death penalty, the pregnant Briton caught smuggling £3.2 million of heroin in Pakistan

A pregnant British woman could face the death penalty in Pakistan after she was caught trying to smuggle heroin worth £3.2million.

Khadija Shah, 25, was attempting to return to Birmingham with her two children when she was arrested by police officers who uncovered 140lb of the drug concealed inside clothes in three suitcases.

She claimed she took the bags as a favour for men she met in Pakistan and did not know what was in them. Authorities in the capital Islamabad suspect the men were gangsters.

The haul is believed to be the biggest of the Class A drug ever recovered at Islamabad airport destined for the streets of Britain.

Under Pakistani law, anyone arrested with drugs weighing more than 22lb (10kg) faces at least life imprisonment and at most the death penalty.

Six months for boy who raped girl of 11 sparks outrage

Six months for boy who raped girl of 11 sparks outrage | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Six months for boy who raped girl of 11 sparks outrage over 16-year-old thug's soft sentence for attack in McDonald's toilet.

Series of attacks took place on three separate dates.
Involved up to eight members of the same street gang.
Only two were convicted, but investigations continue.
Ringleader, then aged 13, was jailed for five years.
Judge said attack had 'far reaching effects' on victim.
Thugs beat her up to make sure she kept quiet.

A teenage gang member who raped a girl of 11 in a McDonald’s toilet will serve only six months behind bars after an astonishing ruling by a judge yesterday.
The 16-year-old was one of several thugs who preyed on the ‘vulnerable and lonely’ victim over a number of months.
They subjected the girl to a series of horrific rapes before trying to intimidate her into staying silent.
But incredibly, he was locked up for just one year yesterday after the judge said the victim’s unwillingness to have sex ‘may not have been obvious’ to him and he deserved ‘very great credit’ for pleading guilty.
The teenager – who cannot be named – is likely to serve only six months in a young offenders’ institution.
Last night the sentence was condemned by victims’ groups, who said it trivialised the rape of a child. In law, a girl of 11 is deemed incapable of consenting to sex in any circumstances.
Jo Wood, a spokesman for Rape Crisis, said: ‘Victims will be appalled by this kind of sentence. That victim will undoubtedly serve a life sentence after what has happened to her.
‘It will have taken considerable courage for her to come forward. I am very concerned that this sentence does not reflect the seriousness of the crime at all.
‘Courts will need to seriously consider the message that sentences such as these send out.’

Stephen Timms, the Labour MP for East Ham, said: ‘These attacks were horrendous, repeated and committed by young men who seemed to have little remorse for the trauma they have inflicted on this girl. I am shocked, especially given the gang dimension to this case, that their sentences are so short.’
Conservative MP Philip Davies said: ‘For a court to hand down such a derisory sentence for one of the most serious crimes seems to me to be totally unacceptable.’
Mr Davies said such sentences had ‘left the public with no confidence in the criminal justice system’. He added: ‘It certainly won’t act as a deterrent, or encourage victims of rape to come forward.

‘Given how serious the problems with gang culture are in this country, I think it is very weak indeed.’
The victim, who is now 13, stared at the floor in court yesterday as Ibraheem Giwa, 15, and his 16-year-old co-defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were sentenced to five years and one year respectively.
Both had been members of the Say No More gang from the Custom House area of Newham, East London – an area blighted by violent turf wars.
Ibraheem ‘Ibby’ Giwa – described as the ringleader – was just 13 when he carried out the first attack on the girl in September 2009, Inner London Crown Court heard.
He dragged the girl, who had just started secondary school, into the bushes at a park, and raped her while another boy watched. He then invited her to his house, where she asked him: ‘If I do it, are you going to leave me alone?’
Giwa then raped her again, before inviting a queue of up to eight other gang members to do the same.
The victim wept throughout the attacks and asked the boys to ‘stop it’, but they simply told her to stop crying because it ‘made it look like they’d done something’ to her.
She later told police: ‘They didn’t ask me if I wanted it or not.’

Six months later, in March 2010, she was attacked in the toilet of a McDonald’s restaurant in East Ham, East London, by the gang member, then 14, who had heard about the previous rapes.
He followed her into the toilet and raped her while his friends waited outside the door. After the attacks, members of the gang bombarded the victim with texts and phone calls warning her not to tell anyone about what had happened.
On two occasions, she was beaten up as a warning not to report the crimes. When she finally did go to the police, officers seized the defendants’ computers and found that Giwa had discussed the rape with others on Facebook.
In one conversation, Giwa had written: ‘I think the girl we rapped (sic) went to police.’
A 15-year-old, who cannot been named and who was later cleared, wrote: ‘What girl?’ Giwa replied: ‘The girl we bang at my house.’
Passing sentence, Judge Patricia Lees said the rapes had been ‘selfish and debased’ attacks on a vulnerable and lonely child who had been left genuinely frightened of gang reprisals.
Judge Lees said the victim had been ‘an easy target’ for the gang.
‘Your actions have had far-reaching and life-changing effects on a young girl you subjected to your debased and selfish desires,’ she said.
‘The victim was but 11 years old. She had just started secondary school.
‘She certainly wasn’t mature enough to realise whether she wanted to have sex with you.
‘You both realised she was likely not to refuse because of her submissive nature, ignoring the way it would inevitably affect her.
‘You chose to ignore that for your own selfish gratification.’
The judge added their victim ‘remains genuinely frightened of reprisals’ for having reported their vile attacks. The Say No More gang – their name an edict not to talk to the police – are just one of many rival groups of teenage thugs that have blighted East London in recent years.
Their increasingly vicious ‘postcode wars’ have left residents terrified for their lives.
One who dared to stand up to the gangs was Peter Woodhams, a 22-year-old satellite TV engineer from Canning Town. He paid with his life in August 2006 when he was shot through the heart in front of his fiancée and three-year-old son.
His family begged for the police to get a grip on the gang violence crippling the area.
But in 2009, 15-year-old Steven Lewis was stabbed to death by rival gang members from the E16 postcode.
Yesterday residents of the area said ‘nothing had changed’.
Equally disturbing, experts say, is the growing trend towards sexual violence towards young girls on the fringes of gang culture. They believe yesterday’s case it is indicative of a much wider problem.
The Metropolitan Police estimate that the 250 criminal gangs in London are responsible for one in seven reported rapes.
The NSPCC has said a third of teenage girls have been forced into sexual activity, while the Race On The Agenda charity’s research shows rape is used as punishment for girl gang members.
One has gone so far as to claim rape has become ‘normal’ in London gang culture. Isha Nembhard, former member of an 80-strong gang in Peckham, South London, warned in February that some young girls would risk rape in return for membership of a group.
‘It is about low self esteem and a craving for attention,’ she said.
The Government has announced £1.2million to tackle the issue, while the Metropolitan Police has set up the Heart programme, focusing on educating vulnerable girls about relationships.

What the left love to defend: Muslim woman beat girl, 10, with steel ladle

What the left love to defend: Muslim woman beat girl, 10, with steel ladle | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Muslim woman beat girl, 10, with steel ladle for not reading enough of Koran.

Doctors found 56 wounds the child's body.
Asia Parveen also forced the girl to stand arms outstretched for four hours.
Police found her after she escaped from the house in north London.

Asia Parveen, 31 brandished a knife at the child, in Stoke Newington, north London, after accusing her of lying about her prayers.

Parveen, who was five months pregnant at the time, also forced the girl to stand with her arms outstretched for four hours, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

The girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, escaped from the house in Stoke Newington, north London, and police found her alone at a bus stop in Waltham Forest, east London, almost four hours later in the early hours of the morning.
Doctors identified 56 injuries when she was examined at hospital,
Parveen, who is a mother-of-three, accepted causing some of the injuries with the ten inch cooking spoon but said others must have been caused when the girl 'fell over.'

Prosecutor Tom Nicholson told the court an argument started between Parveen and the girl on August 15 last year during Ramadan.
'The girl was praying from the Koran and Ms Parveen accused her of lying about how many of the verses she had read,' he said.
'She was 10 at the time. Ms Parveen took a metal spoon about 10 inches in size and the Crown's case is that she hit the child with it repeatedly over a half an hour period, causing extensive bruising over both arms, her legs and head.

'The Crown's case is that Ms Parveen said she was going to kill the girl and ran to get a knife from the kitchen.
'The girl had no alternative but to leave at around 10pm.
'She got a bus and a train and it was about 1.50am when the police found her at a bus stop in Broadway Parade, Waltham Forest.
'She was on her own and extremely cold. She was taken to hospital and an examination found she had suffered 56 injuries.'
Parveen admitted a single count of child cruelty but insisted that she only used the spoon once or twice on the girl's arms and bottom.
She claimed the other injuries had been the result of the girl falling over. Parveen also denied threatening to kill the 10-year-old or picking up a knife.
Judge Martyn Zeidman accepted Parveen's basis of plea, saying it would not be in the public interest for the child to give evidence.
'The defendant has accepted she behaved in the wrong way towards the girl and there is absolutely no doubt that she behaved disgracefully,' the judge said.
'Before the violence, she says had been asked to stretch her arms up in the air for a period of four hours.
'She says she was hit all over with a spoon on her arms, legs, head and back about 20 times.
'The basis of plea is that the defendant only admits causing injuries to the girl's arms and bottom.
'On the face of it, the defence assertion is incredible. But I don't regard it in the public interest to make the child give evidence.
'In any view, the defendant has behaved in an absolutely disgraceful way, and what an irony that the child was encouraged to behave in a godly fashion when this was far from godly.
'But I undertake to sentence the defendant on her version of events and avoid further distress to the child.'
Adjourning the case until June 15 for reports, Judge Zeidman told Parveen: 'I'm releasing you on bail but that gives no indication on what will be the eventual sentence.
'All options are open so you must not assume that because you got bail you will necessarily avoid an immediate prison sentence.'
Parveen, of Hackney, north London, will be sentenced on June 15.

Two men held over claims of female mutilation offered in the UK

Two men held over claims of female mutilation offered in the UK | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Two men were arrested today by police investigating claims that female genital mutilation is being offered in the UK.
West Midlands Police said a 55-year-old and a 61-year-old were arrested when officers from the force’s public protection unit attended three separate addresses in Birmingham.
Detective Inspector Caroline Marsh said: 'We are still in the very early stages of this investigation but I hope this morning’s action sends out a clear message about how seriously we are taking these allegations.'

She added: 'We are actively working together with our partner agencies to investigate reports of female genital mutilation (FGM) and raise awareness of the practice amongst both professionals and communities, in order to identify and safeguard potential victims.
'I want to reassure people that we thoroughly investigate all allegations of FGM and I would encourage anyone who may have any information about this illegal practice to contact police.'
The men were arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003.
Officers went to properties on Stratford Road, Sparkhill, Trafalgar Road, Moseley and Kingstanding Road, Kingstanding, at around 9am.
A force spokesman said an investigation was launched following the publication of an article in The Sunday Times on April 22.

Judge reveals name of 13-year-old ringleader of street gang who raped girl, 11, in McDonald's toilet

Involved up to eight members of the same street gang.

The sex attacks took place on three separate dates.
Thugs beat her up to make sure she kept quiet.

The 13-year-old ringleader of a gang who raped a teenager in McDonald's can today be named as Ibraheem Giwa.
As the sentencing was adjourned until tomorrow, Judge Patricia Lees, took the unusual step of lifting the reporting restriction.
The judge said it was in the public interest to name the now 15-year-old after he led a sickening pack rape on the girl at his house before raping her in the toilets of the fast food store.

The sex attacks, on three separate dates between September 2009 and March 2010, are said to have been motivated by a 'mixture of bullying and possibly gang bravado'.
A second boy, now 16, admitted the rape in McDonald's but denied being involved in the gang carried out by members of the Say No More Gang associated with the Custom House area of east London.
The pair will be sentenced tomorrow.
The leader was just 13 when he carried out the first rape in a park with another boy, Inner London Crown Court heard.
He led a second attack at his east London home, involving a queue of up to eight thugs.
On the final occasion in March 2010 she was cornered by three boys in the McDonalds lavatory in East Ham, where one of them raped her.

The leader, now 15, was convicted of two rapes following a trial. He claimed he was playing football at the time but jurors rejected his story.
The second boy, now 16, earlier admitted raping the girl in the McDonald's cubicle when he was aged 14.
The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will be sentenced by Judge Patricia Lees this afternoon.

EU plot to scrap Britain

EU plot to scrap Britain | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

SENIOR Eurocrats are secretly plotting to create a super-powerful EU president to realise their dream of abolishing Britain, we can reveal.

A covert group of EU foreign ministers has drawn up plans for merging the jobs currently done by Herman Van Rompuy, president of the European Council, and Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission.
The new bureaucrat, who would not be directly elected by voters, is set to get sweeping control over the entire EU and force member countries into ever-greater political and economic union.

Opponents fear the plan could create a modern-day equivalent of the European emperor envisaged by Napoleon Bonaparte or a return to the Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne that dominated Europe in the Dark Ages.
They are concerned that David Cameron’s coalition Government is doing nothing to prevent the sinister plot. The secret talks were uncovered by Independent Labour peer Lord Stoddart of Swindon.
“This is a plot by people who want to abolish nation states and create a United States of Europe,” he said.

Grandmother, 94, Beaten At Home As She Slept

Grandmother, 94, Beaten At Home As She Slept | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A 94-year-old grandmother is seriously ill in hospital with a fractured skull and partially severed finger after being beaten in her own bed as she slept.
Police said Emma Winnall also suffered a broken arm and wrist in the "vicious" and "sickening" assault at her West Midlands home.
Her carer raised the alarm at 9am on Tuesday but detectives said the attack, which left her with potentially life-threatening injuries, could have occurred at any time from 9pm on Monday night.
Mrs Winnall, of Pensby Close, Moseley, in Birmingham, was taken to hospital and remains under sedation after emergency surgery, which involved inserting metal plates into her arm.
Detectives have been unable to determine a motive for the attack. Nothing was stolen from the property and the interior was largely undisturbed.
A photograph of Mrs Winnall in hospital has been released at the request of her daughter as part of a police appeal for information.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Johal, of West Midlands Police , said police believe "an implement of some sort" was used in the attack.
Officers said Mrs Winnall is showing signs of improvement in hospital.
DCI Johal continued: "This is a truly sickening attack on a defenceless, frail lady as she slept in her own home.
"Mrs Winnall had nothing of note to steal. It was a senseless assault and I'd urge anyone with suspicions about who may be responsible to get in touch straight away.
"The attacker may well have mentioned something to a friend or relative, or perhaps someone remembers a person acting oddly that evening or the following morning."

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on the 101 number or the independent charity Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111 .
