Sick British Muslims join campaign against shot teenager Malala

Sick British Muslims join campaign against shot teenager Malala | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

BRITISH-based Muslim extremists want the schoolgirl shot by the Taliban to face a possible death sentence.

The radicals will head to the Pakistani capital of Islamabad to link up with hardliners for a demonstration urging a fatwa against Malala Yousafzai.

The 15-year-old campaigner was shot in the head after she called for girls to have the right to attend school.

UK-based Islamist Anjem Choudary has led the anger aimed at Malala who is recovering at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Zealots claim she is an apostate, or traitor, to Islam because she wrote an online diary for BBC Urdu slamming the Taliban for denying girls the right to education.

The conference billed as “Sharia4Pakistan” is due to be held at Lal Masjid (mosque) in Islamabad on November 30 and will feature a video address from al-Muhajiroun founder Omar Bakri Mohammed, titled “Declaration of Fatwa on Malala Yousafzai”.

The punishment for apostasy, or regressing from Islam, can under certain reading of Islamic law mean a death sentence.

East London-based Choudary told us: “There is no covenant of security in Pakistan for non-Muslims. If someone apostasises (renounces) Islam they become like the non-Muslims.

“They no longer have any form of protection. What we say very clearly is any non-Muslims in Muslim countries need to leave because they are at risk.

“And those people who are apostates (like Malala) and want to stand with the enemy against Muslims, they are naturally the first people that are going to be targeted.

“If someone apostatises like this woman did by allying with the Americans and saying her favourite person is (Barack) Obama and that she does not want the Sharia or hijab and wants to live under a secular state, she has put herself in a very precarious situation.

“It is no surprise what happened to her in Pakistan.

“Malala is mature Islamically, she is not immature, she has reached that period we say is adulthood.”

Meanwhile Omar Bakri Mohammed, 54, formerly based in the UK and now hiding in Lebanon, told the Daily Star Sunday: “The only solution is the implementation of the Sharia. She (Malala) should face justice in an Islamic court.

“We are going to renew the Fatwa against the man-made law and systems in Pakistan – this is why women like this young girl are rejecting Islam. The system is not being implemented properly.”

But last night one leading moderate Muslim figure described the plan as “ludicrous” and a “stunt”.

Dr Taj Hargey, imam of the Oxford Islamic Congregation and director of the Muslim Education Centre of Oxford, said: “The fatwa is just a religious opinion it does not carry any legal weight – certainly not in this country. This is a totally ludicrous religious opinion by a bunch of ultra-radical religious extremists.

“All Malala did was fight and struggle for the right to be educated and in Islam the right to be educated is a universal right for everyone, male and female, boys and girls.

“This is just another stunt by the self-styled religious cleric Anjem Choudary.

“He should be focusing on what Muslims can do to become better integrated rather than being a rabble-rouser and a troublemaker.

“Thinking Muslims should all contribute to a one-way ticket for these people to leave this country, leave the British passport at Heathrow and go on to Wahabi land or Sharia land and stay there forever.

“This brave girl is not a heretic or apostate. For her to be deemed outside the faith because she wants to be educated is totally beyond the pale.”

'Asian' Gang try to drag woman into car

'Asian' Gang try to drag woman into car | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

OLICE are hunting a gang who tried to drag a woman into their car in Jarrow.
A 20-year-old woman was making her way along Hill Street, at 2.05pm yesterday, when a car with three men inside, one driving and two in the back seat, pulled up alongside her.
One of the passengers began asking the woman for directions through the open window before getting out of the vehicle claiming he couldn’t hear her.
Once outside the vehicle, he grabbed the woman’s shoulders from behind and attempted to cover her mouth. At the same time, the second passenger attempted to pull the woman towards the vehicle while inside the car.
The woman bit the first man’s hand who then got back into the car which made off in the direction of Grange Road.

A man in the street then came to the woman’s assistance.

The first man is described as aged between 25 and 30, approximately 6ft tall, of slim build, with short black hair and thick black stubble on his chin and of Asian appearance. The second man is described as aged between 25 and 30, with short black hair, a moustache and heavy black stubble. He was of Asian appearance.

The car was a red or burgundy vehicle similar to a Ford Fiesta. It was travelling from the direction of Victoria Road East, in Hebburn, when it pulled up alongside the victim.

Police investigating the incident are appealing for the man who assisted the woman to come forward as he may be able to help with ongoing inquiries. Any other witnesses should also contact police.

Detective Inspector Paul Woods, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, said: “This was obviously a very frightening experience for the woman involved. Thankfully she hasn’t been injured but was left clearly shaken.

“Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident today to trace the car and the men inside it to establish the exact circumstances surrounding it.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the man who came to the woman’s assistance as he could have vital information to help with our inquiries.

“Anyone else who may have seen the incident or the car in the area at the time should also contact us.

“Officers are patrolling the area to offer reassurance to residents. Anyone with concerns should speak to them or contact their Neighbourhood Policing Team.”

People can contact police on 101, extension 69191. Anyone with information on this incident should quote log number 640 26/03/14.

Couple who glorifed Lee Rigby death jailed

Couple who glorifed Lee Rigby death jailed | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A Hackney couple has been sentenced to jail for glorifying the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby in videos posted online that were “offensive in the extreme”.

Royal Barnes, 23, and his wife Rebekah Dawson, 22, recorded and uploaded three videos on the site shortly after the soldier’s murder in Woolwich last May.

At the Old Bailey on Friday, Barnes pleaded guilty to three counts of disseminating a terrorist publication and one of inciting murder and was sentenced for five years and four months. His wife was sentenced to 20 months in prison after admitting charges of disseminating a terrorist publication.

Judge Brian Barker QC told the court that the couple showed a “total and continuing disregard” for how the images might affect the family of trooper Rigby, the witnesses and the British public.

In a seven-minute video posted on the day after Lee Rigby’s murder, Barnes hailed the killing as a “brilliant” day. The clip was also edited with graphic images of a man holding a decapitated head, a scene of the Woolwich murder and a picture of the World Trade Center in New York.

The second video contained the same edited images and featured Dawson in a face veil behind a title: “British troops kill Muslims so they will die on London streets”.

A third video posted under Barnes’ account Musa Real Talks showed him laughing uncontrollably as he drove past floral tributes in Woolwich, mocking the outpouring of public grief.

Barnes, who knew one of the murderers, Michael Adebowale, also posted on Facebook the offer of a reward for avenging the rape of an Iraqi woman.

The post on June 12 2013 stated: “Any1 who kills an invading soldier in Muslim land I will give them a Vauxhall Astra 3door and money (French British American any kaffir soldier take ur pick).”

Naeem Mian, mitigating for Barnes, said that the defendant came from a deeply dysfunctional background as he was “preyed upon” by Muslim extremists. Mian told the court: “There are no ifs, no buts, no maybes. Mr Barnes makes it absolutely clear that these are idiotic acts borne out of breathtaking stupidity.”

Dawson’s lawyer Susan Meek said her client, who had been studying at university, also came under the influence of others and her dreams of becoming a teacher were now in tatters.

A Polish rough sleeper who battered another homeless man to death in a bin shed for no reason is facing a life sentence.

Damin Walczyk, 29, repeatedly kicked and stamped on 55 year-old Alfred Stemporowski in a drunken and unprovoked attack.

When asked why he was hitting the victim, Walczyk replied that it was 'for the love of my country' - a Polish phrase meaning 'for no particular reason'.

Mr Stemporowski was found dead the next day when a neighbour called police to complain about anti-social behaviour by the homeless group who had taken over the bin shed in Enfield, north London.

'Crash-for-cash' ringleaders jailed

'Crash-for-cash' ringleaders jailed | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Two men have been jailed for orchestrating a series of "crash-for-cash scams", including one involving a bus with up to 40 passengers on board.

Mohammed Gulzar and Shoaib Nawaz, from Sheffield, attempted to net £500,000 from a series of fraudulent insurance claims via their firm City Claims 4 U.

One staged accident involved a 12-tonne bus hitting a car in Burngreave, Sheffield.

Gulzar, 31, and Nawaz, 25, were jailed at Sheffield Crown Court.

Gulzar and Nawaz, who were found guilty of fraud after a trial last year, were jailed for four-and-a-half years and three-and-a-half years respectively.

Nine other people were also sentenced for their part in the fraud.

Bus driver Adam Herbert, 25, from Sheffield, was jailed for 20 months, after admitting his involvement.

The court heard how the bus crash, in June 2011, was just "the most extreme example" of a series of fake collisions masterminded by Gulzar and Nawaz.

The collision was only slight and caused £800 of damage to the vehicle but innocent passengers among those on board said they were amazed to see some people overreact to the small bump.

One man even threw himself into the windscreen.

Detectives found that some passengers had picked up claim forms from Gulzar's company, City Claims 4 U, even before the crash had happened.

Inquiries into the bus crash led to a wider investigation into the Sheffield-based firm.

Judge Graham Robinson heard how Gulzar set up more than 30 collisions in order to make false claims which could have cost insurance companies almost £500,000, although only around £40,000 was ever paid out.

Charges were eventually brought in relation to nine fake incidents in Halifax, Sheffield and Rotherham.

Det Con Mark Wootton, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "The sentences handed out today send a strong message to those who think they can get away with making false claims and defrauding insurance companies to pocket the cash for themselves.

"It is also vital to point out that this is not a victimless crime. Not only do false claims raise insurance premiums for all drivers, but staging crashes such as these could have resulted in injury or even death.

"It is by sheer luck alone that nobody was seriously hurt in these reckless collisions."

Foreign criminals – making the drugs trade in Britain their own

Foreign criminals – making the drugs trade in Britain their own | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Ipswich is home to the latest round of imported enrichment as illegal immigrants Blerim Mema and Graci Fekolan are found guilty of cultivating over £1million worth of cannabis.

These two enriching imports, who had no right to even be in our country, were caught in a house on Henley Road where an astonishing 13 rooms had been converted into cannabis grouwing facilities.

When police raided the address, Blerim and Graci were found to be attempting to hide among the 1,500 cannabis plants on the premises.

So many drugs and drug related equipment were on the premises that it took police officers an entire weekend to log evidence.

Appearing at Ipswich Crown Court, both admitted to producing cannabis, and sentencing was adjourned until next month.

Foreign criminals – making the drugs trade in Britain their own. How enriching.

Perhaps we’ll even deport them after they serve their sentences – who knows, they’ve probably some human rights that will let them stay. Maybe one has a pet cat ?

Inspector Sarsfield Donohue of Suffolk Constabulary said:

"This was a very significant cannabis factory. Early estimates suggest the amount of drugs that have been found would have a street value of at least half a million pounds. It is certainly one of the largest factories discovered in the county and we’re pleased that it has now been shut down.

"If anyone suspects that a property near them is being used to cultivate cannabis then please contact police immediately on 101.”

Rotherham machete 'rampage' murderer jailed for life

Rotherham machete 'rampage' murderer jailed for life | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A man who admitted stabbing his boss 51 times before going on a "rampage" with a machete has been jailed for life.

Father-of-three Parvaiz Iqbal, 40, was killed at his shop on Grosvenor Road in Eastwood, Rotherham, on 15 October.

At Sheffield Crown Court Naeem Mehmood, who admitted murder, was ordered to serve a minimum jail term of 27 years.

The 27-year-old ran through Rotherham smashing car windows and threatening people with a machete after the attack, before being stopped by police.

Mehmood, of Herringthorpe Valley Road, Rotherham, also admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to his co-worker Saeed Hussain, who was stabbed in the stomach when he tried to help his boss.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Mr Iqbal was found at Bismillah Food Store with a 7in (18cm) knife stuck almost up to the hilt in his chest.

Mehmood came to Britain from Pakistan in May 2011 and got a job at the shop in June 2013, the court heard.

He went on sick leave in August after part of his finger was chopped off in a machine, and returned to work the day before the attack.

Sentencing Mehmood, judge Mr Justice Males said: "This was a brutal, sustained and unprovoked attack, beginning with a cowardly stab in the back by a lethal weapon.

"The aftermath, as you left the store and rampaged down the road in broad daylight for about 10 minutes, leaving a trail of destruction behind you, caused real and understandable fear to many members of the public."

He was eventually arrested after he was confronted by an unarmed police officer who persuaded him to put down the 10in (25cm) machete he had picked up in the shop.

Dozens of people in Rotherham posted on Twitter as Mehmood was seen running through the town.

Richard Cattley  tweeted "A man has just ran past me in Rotherham town centre wielding a machete covered in blood shouting move!! Police everywhere!"

Ben Shepherd tweeted "Lunatic running through Tesco, Rotherham brandishing a huge knife, frightened the life out of our secretary. Taken out by 10 police & taser."

South Yorkshire Police said the force began receiving a "large number of calls" at about 14:00 BST on 15 October.

Mehmood was arrested in the car park of Tesco supermarket 12 minutes after the first call, police said.

Det Supt Dave Barraclough said after sentencing: "As the case has not gone to trial, the exact reasons why Mehmood chose to attack his boss and colleague in such a violent way remain unclear.

"He had only recently returned to work and the innocent victims in the case were simply going about their daily business when Mehmood launched his unprovoked attack."

Mahroof Hussain, a relative of Mr Iqbal, told BBC Look North his death had had a big impact on people in the area, particularly as it happened on Eid.

"On that day a lot of people mourned, I don't think anybody in Rotherham that day celebrated Eid at all.

"If you went to Parvaiz's shop he made you feel like you were part of the shop, a member of his community and his family.

"He treated everybody with such respect."

Record number of foreign criminals cannot be deported

Record number of foreign criminals cannot be deported | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
In 2012/2013 602 appeals were allowed by the immigration courts, including 324 criminals allowed to stay in Britain because of their right to a family life

A record number of foreign criminals won appeals against deportation on human rights grounds last year in a major blow to the Government’s tough stance on immigration, The Telegraph can disclose.

Home Office data, disclosed for the first time, shows that 602 appeals were allowed by the immigration courts in 2012-13.

They included 324 criminals who won the right to stay in Britain under the controversial “right to private and family life” set out in Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Article 8 was the focus of a vote in the House of Commons last month that undermined the authority of David Cameron.

Dozens of Conservative backbenchers supported an amendment, tabled by Dominic Raab, to the Immigration Bill that would have stripped the judges of their discretion to allow appeals on Article 8 grounds.

The latest figures, which show the continuing and significant impact of the “family life” measures, will raise questions about ministers’ decision not to back Mr Raab’s amendment, which failed after Labour MPs were ordered to vote against it.

The 602 total was slightly higher than the 600 recorded in 2010-11, and a significant leap from the year before the Coalition came to power, when the figure stood at 507.

Critics of the Government’s record on immigration will seize on the figures as evidence that Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has failed to get tough on human rights abuses by foreign criminals.

The total included 113 offenders who were convicted of serious or violent offences, including murder, manslaughter, rape, indecent assault and child sexual abuse. In 2012-13, three foreign criminals convicted of murder or manslaughter won appeals on human rights grounds – the highest figure on record.

Last year’s figures also included 28 foreign offenders convicted of causing grievous or actual bodily harm, 30 robbers and 16 burglars.

The 113 serious or violent offenders who won appeals was a similar figure to the previous two years, but represented an increase on 2008-09 when the number stood at just 13 and the following year, when it was 82.

The overall number of appeals lodged by foreign criminals also reached a record high last year with 2,329 cases, up 36 per cent year on year.

A Home Office spokesman said: “Those who come to the UK and break our laws should be deported.”

The Telegraph last week disclosed two high-profile cases in which foreign offenders had won the right to stay in the UK. One involved Jason Efred Raje Francis, 26, who took part in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. Judges ruled that he cannot be deported because he has fathered two children in Britain, by different mothers.

The other case involved Earl Daren Rodney, 25, who was convicted of looting a shop during the rioting that swept British cities in August 2011.

Three more Muslim grooming perverts jailed for sex with underage girls

Three more Muslim grooming perverts jailed for sex with underage girls | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

THREE men will serve lengthy spells behind bars for grooming girls as young as 13 and exploiting them for sex.

Taxi driver Shakil Munir, 32, was jailed for eight years after being convicted of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one of abduction.

Sakib Ahmed, 19, admitted sexual activity with a child and was also jailed for eight years.

Ateeq Latif, 17, was convicted of two counts of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and was sent to a young offenders' institution for three years.

All three were made subject to sexual offences prevention orders.

Munir and Ahmed were also banned from driving for eight and six years respectively.

Munir picked up one 14-year-old in his cab and had sex with her in a lay-by. The same week he took a 13-year-old to a chill pad for sex, Teesside Crown Court heard in a trial last year.

He sent one of his victims hundreds of messages on Facebook after he befriended her one night. Many of the messages they exchanged were explicit.

Her mother said the ordeal led the teenager to go off the rails and her education suffered as she was teased at school, with pupils shouting taxi at her.

A total of six Teesside girls were victims of child sexual exploitation, a jury found.

Christopher Knox, prosecuting, said the six girls had suffered considerable, ongoing damage.

He added: "Not just by what happened, but what has happened to them subsequently as a result of them having come forward."

Mr Knox said the young witnesses had been pressured during the trial by locals not to give evidence, and it was impossible to say precisely who was responsible.

"The damage to these girls has been massive," he said.

"They have been repeatedly abused at their schools. They have been subject to name calling - suggestions such as white trash and being goaded in the classroom."

Munir, of Tollesby Road, Latif, of Abingdon Road, and Ahmed, of Cambridge Road, all Middlesbrough, were sentenced at Teesside Crown Court.

Romanian who featured on Benefits Street faces a police investigation over his 15-year-old bride

Romanian who featured on Benefits Street faces a police investigation over his 15-year-old bride | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Stefan Stana boasted to the cameras of his 'marriage', to a girl thought to be called Madalina, but Channel 4 did not contact the police or social services.

Police have launched an investigation after a 15-year-old ‘child bride’ featured on Benefits Street.

Neither producers nor Channel 4 contacted police or social services, despite filming the girl’s Romanian husband Stefan Stana admitting that he had flouted British law.

He admitted on camera: ‘My wife is 15 and a half and I am 20. This scares people in England because she is a minor.’

Only a few months later,  the teenager, thought to be called Madalina Balasa,  gave birth to a baby girl in a Birmingham hospital.

Campaigners accused Channel 4 of turning a blind eye to underage marriage. But a spokesman for the broadcaster said: ‘There was no evidence of coercion or exploitation and the relationship appeared entirely genuine.

'The husband was clearly aware that there are differences in the law between countries and this was made clear in the programme.’

He added that informing the authorities would have compromised the trust the couple placed in documentary-makers Love Productions that allowed them to speak ‘openly, candidly and in confidence’.

But Birmingham Council criticised the broadcaster for putting their programme ahead of the welfare of Madalina, who married Stefan in Romania.

‘We would urge anyone who is aware of someone in a similar situation to contact the police or social services,’ said a spokesman.

‘Indeed, we would have expected the film company  to have done this.’

The NSPCC, Action for Children, Birmingham Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming and the Children’s Commissioner for England also expressed concerns.

Police said: ‘We are investigating along with Birmingham Social Services.’

The couple no longer live in the street so officers are ‘keen to speak to her’ or anyone who knows her whereabouts.

Immigrants posing “a high risk to children” finally jailed.

Immigrants posing “a high risk to children” finally jailed. | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

TWO young Wigan brothers narrowly escaped being abducted by two sex prowlers, a court heard.

The boys, aged eight and 10, were on their way home after playing in a park near their home in Abram when a car pulled up alongside them.

The two Iranian-born occupants tried to entice the youngsters into the car and the younger boy moved to get in but luckily his older brother pulled him away and they fled home.

Jailing the driver, Hassan Meshedi and passenger Aram Younis, for five years each Judge Norman Wright said that he had concluded that the attempted abduction “must have been sexually motivated.”

He said that Younis did the talking: “You sought to inveigle these two small boys to get into your vehicle. Happily for them they obviously had loving, caring and sensible parents who had brought them up properly so that they knew how to respond to advances by total strangers. The older one had the presence of mind to stop his younger brother being beguiled by your words.”

Both men denied the offence and the court heard today that Meshedi says he is heterosexual but the judge said he rejected that assertion. “I am sure there was a sexual motive behind this plan.”

He said he was not sure whether the men, who claimed they were just out relaxing and enjoying the weather, had planned the incident from the start or just saw an opportunity but it was an “extremely serious offence.”

Liverpool Crown Court heard that pre-sentence reports describe both men as posing “a high risk to children”. A jury had unanimously found Younis, 23, of Irvine Street, Leigh and Meshedi, 31, of Chapel Street, Leigh, guilty last month.

Graham Pickavance, prosecuting, told the court today that statements revealed the impact on the boys, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The older boy now struggles to sleep and regularly sleep walks while shouting for his little brother trying to make sure he is safe. He has lost his appetite, is clingy with his parents, no longer wants to play out and has been referred to a pyschologist.

His brother has been suffering from nightmares, will not go upstairs in his home alone and also has trouble sleeping.

Their mother said she will not let them out of sight and feels that the incident has affected their lives and childhood. Judge Wright said that she wrongly blames herself for not having been with them that afternoon but “she had done no more than any mother would have done.” She is now understandably over-protective, he added.

The incident happened on July 13 last year after the boys left Crankwood Park in Abram after their mother rang telling them to come home.

As they were walking along Crankwood Road, which is a cul-de-sac, a light blue Renault Clio approached from the opposite direction. Younis invited them and said “Come on boys, it’s only a ride.”

They ran home in distress to their mother and while a police man was at their home he received radio communication to say that two men matching their description had been detained in Plank Lane, Abram. They were arrested and when interviewed they admitted having been in the general vicinity but again denied speaking to any boys. Meshedi admitted that they had driven down a cul-de-sac. The older boy picked him out on a video ID parade as the driver.

When the vehicle was examined it was found that the front and rear registration plates were attached with Velcro instead of being screwed on. When questioned about this Meshedi said it was in that condition when he purchased it.

The men, who were helped by a Kurdish Iranian interpreter, represented themselves having sacked their legal team. The Home Office will now automatically consider deportation.

A corrupt town hall official gave sought-after council homes to family members and illegal immigrants in return for tens of thousands of pounds in backhanders.

Ibrahim Bundu, who worked in a council’s homelessness unit, pocketed up to £4,000 a time for helping people jump the queue by faking documents and medical records.

He arranged for homes for members of his extended family, including his mother, wife and ex-wife, in a scam which cost taxpayers at least £3.7million. Bundu himself netted at least £50,000.

Investigators found he was behind 28 bogus applications in Southwark, South London, where more than 20,000 people are on the local authority’s waiting list.

Many of those helped by Bundu, 50, were from the war-torn country of Sierra Leone, from where he had travelled to Britain in 1988.

Yesterday the former car mechanic was jailed for four years for the ‘audacious’ scam, believed to be one of the biggest of its kind.

Sentencing him at Woolwich Crown Court, Judge Douglas Marks Moore said his actions ‘undermined the trust’ necessary for ‘the functioning of our society.’

He said: ‘It was a hugely organised, premeditated system that was in place and you were instrumental in its development.

‘Due to your position of responsibility and insider knowledge, you knew the requirements for applications to succeed. It is hard to over-estimate the scale of your criminality.

‘You did not do this for purely altruistic reasons as you received significant financial benefit, a minimum of £53,000.

‘The message must go out that those in a position of trust who commit crimes will be dealt with by the courts.’

Bundu, who worked for Southwark Council, created false identities to ensure his applicants jumped the two-year waiting list.

He forged reams of hospital records, birth certificates, employment papers and tax records to create realistic case files.

In return he pocketed cash bungs from relatives and others, including a large number of people who were in the country illegally.

The racket continued for three years and came to light in 2011 when data from the Audit Commission revealed one of his tenants was entirely bogus.

An internal fraud inquiry uncovered a paper trail of false documents which led to dozens of other fraudulent cases co-ordinated by Bundu.

Checks by the UK Border Agency and HMRC revealed a number of applications had resulted in homes being given to people not legally allowed to be in the UK.

House prices in Southwark  average £460,000, putting the total value of homes handed out at more than £10million.

Michael Goodwin, prosecuting, said: ‘He was paid £1,000 to £4,000 a go. This he put into a saving account and kept it there earning interest.

‘For every day one of the bogus applicants was in the house, the council was losing money as they would have to home people in  private accommodation.’

Bundu, of Peckham, South-East London, admitted misconduct in public office and money laundering.

His mother Marie Bundu, 63, and his ex-wife Ada Kamara, 43, as well as two other unrelated women, appeared alongside him in the dock.

The judge told them: ‘You were all complicit in this deceit, however I consider your criminality to be equal.

‘You dishonestly obtained accommodation that you knew you were not entitled to and remained in there until discovered.’

They received suspended prison sentences of up to eight months after admitting theft and obtaining property by deception. His wife Farmata Koroma, 35, will be  sentenced later.

A spokesman for Southwark Council said: ‘Public sector fraud is not a victimless crime. It can take homes away from people who need a roof over their heads.’

Whitechapel robbery gang sentenced to 30 years

Whitechapel robbery gang sentenced to 30 years | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Four men from Whitechapel have been jailed after seizing £340,000 in the violent mugging of money transfer shop staff members.

Flying Squad detectives were able to track down the gang after CCTV footage revealed a money transfer shop employee being punched and kicked, on his way to a bank in Whitechapel Road, carrying £30,000 in a money bag.

The gang’s first heist was carried out 10 months earlier on the same money transfer shop in 2011, when they stole bags of money from the boot of a manager’s car. The gang had followed the manager for over six miles to his home in Manor Park.

Det. Sgt. Holly Simon from the Met’s Flying Squad said after Friday’s sentences at the Old Bailey: “This was a terrifying act by a very calculated group of men who used violence to steal from a small business.”

The gang received a jail sentence of more than 30 years in total. Akhbar Hussain, 40, from Stileman House on Ackroid Drive, was jailed for six years, while Shetu Meah, 31, from Colmar Close off Alderney Road, got 12 years.

Abdion Hassan, 23, from Walthamstow, was sentenced to nine years and Vinton Meade, 29, from Clapton, got five years.

Refugee raped 19-year-old in locked bedroom

Refugee raped 19-year-old in locked bedroom | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A WOMAN was locked in a bedroom and raped after accepting an invitation to visit a man’s house.

Afghan refugee Najeeb Ahmedzai was jailed for four and a half years after pleading guilty to raping the 19-year-old woman on February 26 last year.

Philip Dobson, prosecuting, told Bolton Crown Court how the teenager had received a text message from a man she had met at New Year, inviting her to his home.

Against the judgement of a friend, she accepted the invitation and, when she got to the house in Lawson Street, Astley Bridge she found Ahmedzai there as well.

The two men plied her with vodka and when she told them she was tired they went upstairs to a bedroom with her.

Mr Dobson said the bedroom door was locked and she was left alone with Ahmedzai, who raped her.

“She did not know what was happening. She was protesting,” said Mr Dobson. Ahmedzai would not allow her to use her mobile phone, but she managed to dial 999 to call for help after telling him she needed to go to the bathroom.

Ahmedzai had left the house when police arrived and was arrested at an immigration office five months later.

Denise Breen-Lawton, defending, said Ahmedzai, who is believed to be aged 24, was illiterate and uneducated and feared being killed by the Taliban if, as is likely, he is deported at the end of his sentence.

Callous Black thug and thief jailed for manslaughter

Callous Black thug and thief jailed for manslaughter | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Andrew Young, 40, rowed with cyclist who was riding on pavement, then his pal hit him without provocation.

Andrew Young, 40, became embroiled in an argument with Victor Ibitoye after he had told him that cycling on the pavement was dangerous.

The cyclist rode off but moments later his friend, Lewis Gill, approached Mr Young and punched him in the face without provocation.

Horrific CCTV footage shows Mr Young falling backwards by the sudden blow and striking his head on the road surface.

Callous thug Gill, 20, is then seen to walk away but not before looking back to see his victim lying motionless on the ground.

The attack happened in a busy shopping area of Bournemouth, Dorset, in broad daylight and several passersby rushed to Mr Young's aid.

Mr Young, who suffered from Asperger's Syndrome, was rushed to hospital where he died the following day from head injuries with his mother at his bedside.

Gill pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter and was jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Afterwards, Mr Young's grieving mother Pamela described the sentence as a 'joke'.

She said: "I saw the CCTV footage in court and you can see that Andrew didn't cause Lewis Gill any harm.

"I sat with him when he died. I wish that awful man who took my son away had pleaded not guilty so he would have got a longer sentence.

"The sentence is an absolute joke. I'm a committed Christian but I think that if someone takes a life they should be prepared to forfeit their own.

"There have been many people who have committed manslaughter or murder in this country and they never even serve a full sentence."

The incident happened at 4.25pm on November 6 last year outside a Tesco Express in Charminster, Bournemouth.

Mr Young was said to be able to speak several languages but had the social skills of a 14-year-old due to his condition.

The court heard Mr Young told Mr Ibitoye during the argument that riding his bike on the pavement was a 'dangerous activity'.

Mrs Young said: "He was very particular because of his Asperger's and he wouldn't have liked seeing someone riding a bicycle on the pavement because it was dangerous."

After the brief argument Mr Ibitoye cycled away from Mr Young and apparently had no idea what Gill was about to do.

Kerry Maylin, prosecuting, said: "The defendant claims he was worried about Andrew Young because he thought he was being menacing.

"He said Andrew Young put his hand to his pocket and he thought he was going to pull out a knife or a gun."

A post mortem examination found Mr Young had no injuries to indicate that the had tried to defend himself.

The court heard Gill punched Mr Young after the victim allegedly made a racist remark.

Steven Perian, defending, added: "He wishes he could turn back the clock and not react in the way he did."

In jailing Gill, from Sutton, Surrey, judge Keith Cutler said Mr Young did not represent a threat to him.

He said: "You are a powerfully built young man.

"You must have known that it was going to cause a significant injury and, very sadly, it did."

Gill was also sentenced to two three-month prison terms to run consecutively after committing the crime while on a suspended sentence for robbery and for handling stolen goods.

He was jailed at Salisbury Crown Court last Friday.

Police boss furious as migrant burglar is freed after breaking into a family home

Police boss furious as migrant burglar is freed after breaking into a family home | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
A POLICE chief launched a furious attack on soft-touch justice yesterday after a judge let an immigrant burglar, who ransacked a single mother’s home, walk free.

Outraged police and crime commissioner Tim Passmore asked: “What sort of message does that send?”

Mr Passmore spoke out after Recorder Jonathan Cooper handed Lithuanian migrant Mantvydas Kristaponis a suspended sentence despite moments earlier describing his crimes as serious enough to land him behind bars.

Kristaponis broke into the mother’s house near Stowmarket, Suffolk, when she and her two children went out briefly in July last year.

He ripped her home apart looking for valuables to steal before fleeing with a diamond ring, necklaces, a £1,500 computer and other electronic goods.

A victim impact statement read to Ipswich Crown Court revealed the mother had been left “utterly shocked” by the burglary and the devastation the criminal had caused to her home. Kristaponis could have been jailed for up to 14 years after he admitted his crime.

But Recorder Cooper, after describing the burglar’s behaviour as “unacceptable”, handed him only a 10-month sentence suspended for two years and ordered him to pay just £300 in compensation to his victim.

Elected Suffolk police chief Mr Passmore, a pig farmer from Witnesham, near Ipswich, called the sentence “excessively lenient”, adding: “I would like people to think about what message this sends to the victims and also what type of deterrent this has to potential offenders.

“People pay their taxes and expect the system to work on their behalf.

“The constabulary spends a lot of time and effort bringing these people to justice. What sort of message does that send to the constabulary and what is the effect on morale when this happens?”

Mr Passmore plans to raise the issue before the local Criminal Justice Board, adding: “It’s important to show that crime doesn’t pay.”

Eastern European migrant Kristaponis, who now lives in Ipswich, cut himself while getting in to the home by smashing a kitchen window and was caught after his DNA was found on a Lithuanian database.

Recorder Cooper told him: “This type of behaviour is unacceptable. This is serious offending. It puts anyone responsible in jeopardy of a severe sentence in order to protect the public and deter other people from offending like you did.”

But the judge still let Kristaponis go free.

Last night a Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Sentencing in individual cases is entirely a matter for the judiciary based on the individual circumstances of a case.”

Lithuania has been a member of the EU since 2004, and its citizens are free to come to Britain.

Hungarian ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ fraudsters wanted by Met Police

Hungarian ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ fraudsters wanted by Met Police | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Laszlo Berki, 32, and Renata Fejer, 26, jumped bail while awaiting sentencing for their fraud involving a money exchange machine in Asda in Colindale.

Harrow Crown Court heard the Hungarian couple pocketed thousands of pounds by using coins from their homeland with a similar size and weight to UK currency in Coinstar machines.

The coins were worth significant less that UK currency but the machine would issue vouchers which the couple exchanged for cash.

They were caught when eagle-eyed staff spotted the Hungarian coins and called the police.

After they were arrested officers found a knife and baseball bat in their car and they were both subsequently charged with 13 counts of fraud by false representation and possessing a knife blade sharp pointed article in a public place.

The pair pleaded guilty and asked for a further 304 offences to be taken in consideration following a police investigation into similar incidents in other supermarkets.

However last month they failed to show up in court for sentencing and a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

Officers have also been granted a forfeiture order allowing them to confiscate £6114.38 from the couple.

PC Stephen Bourne, investigating officer, said: “Brent Police will use every tactic to disrupt, catch and convict people who break the law. I would like to hear from anyone who may know of any of Laszlo Berki and Renata Fejer’s whereabouts and help bring these fugitives to justice.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Court finds police officer guilty

Court finds police officer guilty | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A POLICE officer accused of stealing and selling the details of accident victims is facing jail after she was convicted of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

Pc Sugra Hanif, right, of Bretch Hill, Banbury, and her lover Raza Khan were both unanimously found guilty yesterday of working together to obtain and disclose thousands of personal records.

The jury has not yet reached a decision regarding the charge of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office faced by Paramjeet Kaur, Khan’s wife. She denies the charge.

The crime committed by Hanif and Khan took place over eight months, starting in January 2011, when the 26-year-old police officerbegan an affair with the married garage owner after he was released from prison.

Using Thames Valley Police’s computer system, she would look up information about accident victims and pass it to her former partner and his wife, the prosecution said.

During a three-week trial at Winchester Crown Court, the jury heard how the three defendants used details taken from the force control and command system to allegedly earn at least £26,400 by referring victims to personal injury solicitors.

The prosecution said Hanif and repair garage owner Khan made around £700 per referral, and the court was told the police officer accessed drivers’ records at least 2,500 times, making contact with 644 of them.

After the verdicts were announced, Judge Andrew Barnett told the pair that the “overwhelming likelihood” was that they would be sent to prison for what they did.

He said: “You have both been convicted by the jury of an extremely serious offence.

“And although all sentencing options will be open to me, the overwhelming likelihood is that you will be made subject to a substantial prison sentence.”

Releasing both defendants on conditional bail, after ordering they hand over their passports, the judge told them they will commit a further offence if they do not return to the court to be sentenced on March 7.

He said: “I’m putting you both on trust not to do anything stupid – it will only count against you if you do.”

During the trial, Hanif claimed that her lover had bullied and threatened her into accessing the personal records – even trying to blackmail her by saying he would release sex tapes of them together if she did not agree.

Khan, 26, denied this and branded his co-accused’s story “100 per cent lies” in an interview with police.

But Peter Asteris, prosecuting, said Khan and his wife Paramjeet Kaur, 26, both of Ivy Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, even set up case management companies to sell the information to firms of solicitors.

Cross-examining Hanif, who became a police officer in 2008, the prosecutor said: “You promised to truly serve the Queen with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality.

“You said you would prevent offences against people and property and will do so according to the law. Did you do this?”

Hanif replied: “I would like to think that I have stuck to it. However, with this incident that has happened, I can’t say I have.”

Mr Asteris added: “You have failed to act in the proper conduct which was expected of you, haven’t you?”

She said: “Yes, I guess that is one way of putting it.”

The jury will continue its deliberations today.

Birmingham phone snatcher trapped by DNA from saliva after biting victim

Birmingham phone snatcher trapped by DNA from saliva after biting victim | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Birmingham Mail reports - A phone snatcher who targeted lone women using footbridges and subways to cross a busy Birmingham road was trapped by police using DNA from saliva found on the hand of a victim he bit.

Jawad Mahmood, from Hamstead Road in Handsworth, bit the 25-year-old woman during a struggle above Great Charles Street Queensway on July 7 last year as she clung on to her mobile.

He eventually prised it from her grasp but police were able to swab saliva taken from the victim’s hand that was later DNA linked to the 22-year-old.

Mahmood was arrested the following day by officers patrolling around Great Charles Street Queensway in response to seven robberies - all against women - using the bridge and subway in Livery Street.

Police were able to link him to a footbridge robbery on July 6 in which a 50-year-old woman was punched in the face before her handbag was stolen, another walkway phone snatch on June 21, and a failed subway robbery on June 21.

Mahmood admitted the offences and at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (Jan 20) he was jailed for five years. Three other robberies Mahmood was charged with - on May 13, June 15 and July 1 - will remain on court file.

Investigating officer Det Con Alan Hands, from Birmingham Police CID, said: "Mahmood regularly trawled the area around Great Charles Street Queensway on the lookout for lone, vulnerable females.

"We believe he struck at least seven times in less than two months and, with each passing robbery, was prepared to elevate the amount of force used during the attacks.

"Plain-clothes and high-visibility officers were deployed around the scene and, acting on descriptions of the offender provided by victims, arrested Mahmood on July 8.

He was picked out during ID procedures and also linked by DNA taken from his saliva."

Mahmood left his 50-year-old victim, a lady from Wolverhampton, with black eyes and extensive facial bruising after yanking her bag strap as she climbed the footbridge steps.

CCTV later showed him pocketing two phones and dumping the bag, while the same cameras showed him pacing the footbridge several times on June 21 before pouncing on a 33-year-old woman from Redditch.

Mahmood fled empty handed from the June 17 underpass attack when his 27-year-old target, a woman from Halesowen, screamed in an attempt to attract the attention of passers-by.

DC Hands added: "A link was quickly established between the offences and a strategy put in place to catch the culprit.

"The area around Great Charles Street Queensway was made a priority patrol area for both high visibility and undercover patrols - and it resulted in us arresting Mahmood from descriptions we’d been passed by victims.

"We’d urge phone users to download tracker apps onto their mobiles which will help police trace handsets should they be stolen. We’ve seen some excellent arrests, with robbers caught red handed, thanks to tracker devices."

Brave Lucy waives right to anonymity to expose Muslim rapists

Brave Lucy waives right to anonymity to expose Muslim rapists | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Brave rape victim Lucy Walsh today spoke out as an investigation to net a third man accused of attacking her continues.

Lucy, from Leyland, is reeling from appeal judges’ recent decision to reduce the 16-year jail terms of, Mohammed Ibrahim, now 24, and Rezgar Nouri, now 27, to 12 years on appeal – meaning the rapists will be free in 2017.

Now she is determined to see the third suspect, Kurdish national Araz Latif Najmaden, 22, arrested.

She said: “The reason I’ve waived my anonymity is to publicise his picture as much as possible so he can be caught.

“I am a home girl and love being at home with my family but I had to emigrate because I couldn’t cope.

“It is a life sentence for me and my family.”

Lucy had been out with her brother and his friends on June 26, 2011, in Preston, but decided to stay out when they left The Loft nightclub, because she knew people in there.

She left at around 4am and walked down Fishergate to get a taxi from the train station.

The last thing she remembers is reaching Debenhams.

CCTV shows a gang approaching her. A short time later she was taken to a flat where she was brutally attacked. She remembers waking up in the dirty flat to find herself being pinned to the floor.

Over the next two hours, all three men took it in turns to attack her.

Lucy, who was seriously injured during the attack, was finally thrown out on the street.

She started crawling towards the train station on her hands and knees.

At Preston railway station a security guard ignored her and a taxi driver refused to help her.

Lucy said: “It felt like no-one wanted to help me.”

But Matthew, a 21-year-old who had been out with his friends and who she calls “her hero”, came to her aid.

While his friends told him “just leave her, she’s drunk”, he refused and stayed with her, comforting her and calling the police.

Her mum Kay, 50, said she believed Lucy had come home with her brother until police knocked on the door of their farmhouse at 7am.

She recalls: “I heard Jack and his friends come back and thought she was with them.

“My husband Ian answered the door and the moment I heard male voices, I knew something had happened.

“I walked into the front room and Ian looked grey. The detective said they were investigating a ‘possible sexual assault’ and I said, ‘What are you saying?’

“When he added she needed some shoes, I said, ‘Oh my God, she’s been raped’.”

Lucy was taken to the SAFE Centre to be examined. Kay said: “She was covered in bruises from being dragged and held down, some which only came out weeks later. She looked like a 90-year-old woman.

“But before she could go home she had to be taken back to the scene to identify the house. She was begging to go home.”

Lucy helped police identify a flat with a green door.

The tasks began of telling family and friends what had happened, including Lucy’s grandmas.

Kay said: “I was driving to Burnley to see my eldest daughter, but instead I drove back to that flat. The police were already there and it was taped off. I was so angry – if they had not have been there I would have killed them with my bare hands. I would not tell my husband where it was for the same reason.”

Lucy, who now works as a nanny in Canada, says: “I’m lucky I have a close family, I can’t imagine what it is like for victims who don’t. I would probably be dead in a gutter somewhere.

“I turned to drink and drugs. I was in self destruct mode, playing chicken with my life. I blamed myself.

“I have no doubt he will be caught – they have his name and fingerprints and DNA; it’s just a case of finding him.

“The police said it is like a needle in a haystack which is why its important people look at his picture.”

She added: “It’s not just a life sentence for me, it’s something that affects the rest of the family.

“At the time it was reported I met them and went back to the flat with them. That was not the case at all. I didn’t know them. But even if I had it doesn’t justify what they did to me.”

The men were seen confronting two other women before Lucy, but they managed to brush them off.

They were also seen watching girls in various clubs in Preston and Lucy believes they may have been watching her before the attack.

Anyone with information on Araz Latif Najmaden should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Sikh lawyer's turban 'kicked off his head in a racist attack'

Sikh lawyer's turban 'kicked off his head in a racist attack' | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Aravinth Kandasamy (pictured), 26, and Luxmanan Mahendran, 27, allegedly shouted 'let's kick his turban off' as they attacked Rashvinder Panesar in the City of London last year.

A Sikh lawyer’s turban was kicked off his head as he was beaten to the ground in a racist attack outside St Paul’s Cathedral, a court has heard.

Rashvinder Panesar and his wife Sundeep were making their way home from a meeting in the City of London when they were set upon, the Old Bailey heard.

When Mrs Panesar, also a lawyer, tried to intervene and retrieve her husband’s red turban, she was grabbed and almost knocked to the ground by Mahendran, it is alleged.

The court heard Mr Panesar suffered a fractured nose, a chipped tooth, injured his knee and had both his contact lenses knocked out in the alleged attack, which took place in Carter Lane, at around 10.45pm on 26 April 2013.

Kandasamy, of Ilford, Essex, and Mahendran, of Arnos Grove, north London, deny two counts of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Mahendran also denies assault by beating.

Prosecutor Louis French said: ‘Mr and Mrs Panesar are Sikhs and in the custom that Sikhs have Mr Panesar was wearing a turban, quite a colourful one that night, it was red.'

He said the couple had been to a meeting of the Society of Asian Lawyers.

He said: ‘It was about 10.30pm when they left the bar, walking together along Carter Lane crossing a pavement heading towards the cathedral.

‘They went to the roadside and stood hoping to hail down a black cab.

‘The couple noticed three men straight ahead of them, one of those men made an offensive remark “tuck me in b****”.

‘One of the group said “f*** you we are going to put you to sleep, we’re going to tuck you in”.

‘The two other men joined in these remarks which were being shouted.

‘Another said: "F*** you, don’t you know who we are?"'

Mr French said it turned aggressive and the men 'seemed to be encouraging each other'.

He said: ‘These three men closed in on Mr Panesar and the verbal abuse continued, Mrs Panesar was called a b****.’

Mr Panesar was pushed to the ground and then set upon by the gang, the jury was told.

‘They then started to quite seriously attack him

by punching and kicking him,’ said Mr French.

‘He was desperately stood there out-numbered and trying to fend them off.

‘But in the course of this violent attack he was brought down to the ground where he was kicked and punched to his face, body and his back.

‘One of the men shouted “let’s kick his turban off” and that’s precisely what was done.

‘Mr Panesar’s turban was removed by kicking and another man shouted “kick it away”.

‘Mrs Panesar ran over and went to try and retrieve it but as she did so she was grabbed and almost knocked to the ground.

‘The person who did that was Mahendran.’

Both defendants claim that their alleged victim was aggressive towards them first, the court heard.

The trial continues.
