Evil mugger attacked Borneo veteran on doorstep of his Digbeth home, forcing him to miss Remembrance Day for first time
Nationalist Media Network's insight:
An evil mugger who battered a Birmingham old soldier and fled with just £40 has been jailed for nine years. Frail Bill Hopkins, 79, suffered a broken jaw in the cowardly attack outside his home last November. Mugger Richard Christie , 48, pounced on the pensioner from behind, repeatedly punching and kicking him in the head. He ran off with the OAP’s wallet - which contained the cash, bank cards and a card from his late wife’s memorial service. Former soldier Bill, who served in Borneo in the 1950s, woke up bleeding on the pavement following the attack on the doorstep of his Gooch Street home in Digbeth. As a result of his injuries, the great-grandad missed a Remembrance Day parade for the first time since serving overseas. Detectives discovered a glove at the scene of the mugging which plucky Bill had torn from his attacker’s hand. Christie, from Sugden Grove, Highgate, admitted robbery at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday and was jailed for nine years. Detective Constable Lee Dawson, from West Midlands Police, described the mugging as a “vicious, unprovoked attack.” He added: “The whole community were understandably outraged at the severity of the attack . “We hope the sentence offers reassurance that we will do everything within our power to bring criminals to justice.” Speaking after the court hearing, Bill said: “I’m glad justice has been served and Christie is behind bars. “Thankfully I’ve recovered from what he did to me. It hasn’t put me off going outside or anything. “I’m just glad he is in prison and cannot hurt anybody else. Both my family and I are pleased with the sentence. “We also can’t thank the police enough. They did a fantastic job catching Christie.” After the November 10 mugging, Bill’s daughter Pat Kurila had broken down during a police press conference. The 52-year-old teaching assistant, from Highgate, said: “We could have been burying him. Whoever did this is the lowest of the low.” At the time, police said they believed the mugger had followed Bill home from a Ladbrokes in the Arcadian Centre, where he had won the £40. He was pinned down and attacked outside his house at around 8pm and later spent two days in hospital. Brave Bill, who did his National Service in Germany and Malaya with the 11th Hussars, had said after the attack: “The thing that most annoyed me was that I couldn’t go to the remembrance parade on the Sunday as I do every year.” Delete the scoop?

The BBC is to apologise for a Newsnight report about military charity Help for Heroes that gave the false impression it was responsible for shortcomings in support offered to wounded veterans. A BBC investigation found the report in August 2012 was misleading and unfair. The programme has also been under fire for dropping a report into disgraced BBC DJ Jimmy Savile and wrongly linking Lord McAlpine to a sex abuse inquiry. The apology to Help for Heroes will be broadcast on TV and radio later. The internal investigation into the report by former Bureau of Investigative Journalism chief reporter Angus Stickler found that there was no evidence to back Newsnight's claim about Help for Heroes. In the apology, the BBC will say: "Following an investigation by its Editorial Complaints Unit, the BBC now accepts that its coverage was misleading and unfair to Help for Heroes. "The BBC gave the impression that Help for Heroes was responsible for shortcomings in the provision of support to wounded veterans. The editorial complaints unit found no evidence to support this suggestion.
"It is important to stress that the ruling has found that it is clear that at least some injured veterans and their families had been expressing criticisms of Help for Heroes and it was legitimate to report these."
"Although it was legitimate to report the concerns of veterans, the BBC portrayed criticisms about overall support by a number of agencies as specific criticisms of Help for Heroes. This unfair impression was reinforced by our coverage of the story in other outlets. "In addition, the Newsnight report contained interviews with two contributors which were edited in a way which misrepresented their views." It continues: "Although a representative of Help for Heroes took part in a studio discussion which followed the Newsnight report, the response of Help for Heroes to the criticisms wasn't properly reflected. "This contributed further to the unfair impression of Help for Heroes, for which the BBC wishes to apologise." The BBC said it accepted the findings of the ruling, and acknowledged that it had "made some mistakes" in reporting concerns from some veterans: "That shouldn't have happened and we apologise." "It is important to stress that the ruling has found that it is clear that at least some injured veterans and their families had been expressing criticisms of Help for Heroes and it was legitimate to report these," it added. Newsnight was criticised for dropping a report into Jimmy Savile's years of sex abuse. It led to an internal inquiry and the programme's editor, Peter Rippon, stepped down. Then last November the programme linked Lord McAlpine to allegations of sex abuse. The BBC paid £185,000 in damages to him. A new editor for the programme was announced on Thursday. The mother (pictured) of two members of the gang, brothers Akhtar Dogar, 32, ad Anjum Dogar, 31, has claimed one of the victims was not 'pressurised' by her abusers.
She said: 'Nobody can feel sorry for them unless they're sorry themselves.
Nationalist Media Network's insight:
The mother of two brothers who formed part of the Oxford sex grooming gang has blamed her sons' victims for the abuse they suffered. A group of seven men were found guilty at the Old Bailey last week of a catalogue of offences, against girls as young as 11, including conspiracy to rape, child prostitution and trafficking over an eight-year period in the university city of Oxford. Schoolgirls were plucked from the streets and care homes to be drugged, raped and sold into prostitution. But the mother of two members of the gang, brothers Akhtar Dogar, 32, ad Anjum Dogar, 31, has claimed one of the victims was not 'pressurised'. She also asked why the authorities allowed the abuse to take place and spoke of her shame at being associated with the case, according to the Daily Star Sunday. Akhtar and Anjum were convicted at the Old Bailey last week along with another set of brothers Mohammed Karrar, 38, and Bassam Karrar, 33, as well as Kamar Jamil, 27, Assad Hussain, 32, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 27. Speaking at her home in Oxford, the mother of the Dogar brothers said: 'These girls should be playing with toys. If they start (having sex) at ten, by 15 they are proper ladies.' She described how news reports suggested the girls travelled from Oxford to London on the train and suggested they were therefore 'old enough'. She said one of the girls was 'looking' for a boy at a London station, adding 'no one pressurised her'. She said: 'Nobody can feel sorry for them unless they're sorry themselves.' Some victims relived their ordeals during the four-month trial, describing how they were groomed, beaten, betrayed and sold into prostitution around the country Predators would wait for her near her children’s home and she would be driven to various places where she would be plied with drink and drugs in order to be raped or sold to other men. She said Akhtar Dogar threatened her when she refused to perform a sex act, telling jurors: ‘He said if I didn’t do what I was told he knew someone who would shoot me.’ The men, five of Pakistani origin and two North African brothers, were convicted of 23 rapes, 15 charges of rape conspiracy and nine of child prostitution, as well as other offences including trafficking the girls for sexual exploitation and having sex with a child. Five of the six girls were abused while in the care of Oxfordshire County Council’s social services department. Police and social workers knew in 2005 that the Oxford girls were being preyed on by the gang, but did little to stop the nightmare unfolding before they started to investigate in 2010. Police and social services have now apologised to the gang's victims for failing to rescue them Fighting broke out in the dock at the Old Bailey after two other defendants - Mohammed Hussain, 25, and a man who cannot be named for legal reasons - were cleared. Zeeshan Ahmed struck out at Mohammed Hussain before being bundled out of the dock by officers. Delete the scoop?

More than 500 imams have joined forces to protest against David Cameron’s plans for gay marriage in an unprecedented intervention from the British Muslim community. Leaders representing tens of thousands of worshippers at mosques across the country, have signed a joint letter to The Sunday Telegraphaccusing the Government of attacking “the cornerstone of family life” It is the first time that Muslim leaders have made a collective intervention on the issue and underlines the strength of feeling among ethnic minority voters. Organisers said Muslim opposition should be seen as a challenge to David Cameron’s claims to be acting in the interests of “equality” and “diversity”. In the letter – published as MPs prepare for their final Commons debate on the Government’s same-sex marriage bill – they quote the Koran and say they are fulfilling a “sacred trust to God” by airing their views. Echoing comments by Anglican and Roman Catholic clergy, they describe marriage as a “sacred contract between a man and a woman” which they say “cannot be redefined”.
They also voice concerns about the status of teachers in faith schools and claim Muslim parents will be “robbed” of the opportunity to bring their children up in line with the faith. Organisers acknowledged that the Muslim voice had been virtually “silent” on the issue thus far but said they now felt compelled to speak. Imam Suliman Gani, of Tooting Mosque in south London, who led efforts to gather the signatures, said Muslim leaders “salute” the Christian clergy who had been vocal opponents of the Government on the issue. He said many imams had been wary of airing their views publicly because of the negative way Islam is often portrayed, leaving them believing they would be ignored. But, significantly, he said that because Christianity appeared to be under “attack”, Muslim leaders felt compelled to enter the fray. Referring to a letter published in The Daily Telegraph earlier this year, he said: “There were 1,000 priests who signed a letter – yet they have been ignored so we felt we had to do this. “I salute those priests who have taken a stand.” He added: “The Muslim community will take this issue very, very seriously because now the Government has interfered with family. “To us that is like taking children away from their mother: it will definitely have an effect on Mr Cameron’s vote. “We cannot understand how it was possible that this was introduced so fast – but we cannot give up. “We celebrate diversity, we want to have a peaceful coexistence with all people but our main concern in the mosques is the way the Government is changing the definition of marriage and what impact that will have on the children.” The letter has been signed by 505 imams and mosque chairmen from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leicester, Luton, Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Dewsbury, Newcastle, Bradford, Huddersfield and Nottingham among other cities. Covered in flour, they clamber from a foreign lorry – to the amazement of other motorists on a busy motorway. This is the moment that at least nine suspected illegal immigrants emerged from their hiding place after smuggling themselves into the UK. The gang brazenly strolled off into the English countryside. And although all were caught within minutes, almost half were immediately set free. They were even taken to a hostel, given free accommodation and told how to apply for asylum and benefits.
Nationalist Media Network's insight:
The graphic illustration of how Britain remains a soft touch for migrants occurred on the M26 in Kent this week. And it seems it was not a rare event. Kent Police say that for the past two years they have received on average one report a day relating to clandestine immigration. The incident happened near the junction with the M25, as rush-hour traffic slowed to a crawl, and was photographed by a Daily Mail reader. The immigrants opened the hatch in the top of the German food tanker, which had apparently just arrived from France via the Channel Tunnel and was parked on the hard shoulder of the motorway. They emerged one by one, then jumped down on to the ground in a shower of dust. Several witnesses called police, while the tanker driver was also apparently on the phone to the authorities as his stowaway passengers fled. One caller told officers the flour-covered Middle Eastern fugitives would be easy to spot as they all ‘looked like Casper the Friendly Ghost’. They were picked up within the hour at the nearby village of Otford. But after Kent Police handed the nine men over to the Border Agency, four were allowed to go free. The other five remain in detention ‘pending removal from the UK’ but may yet wage legal bids to stay.
Lorry drivers face heavy fines for bringing illegals into the country, and the Border Agency – under fire for its failure to tackle unauthorised immigration – claims to have tightened security checks for stowaways, with specialist equipment to detect body heat or breath. But it seems the flow of people sneaking in continues regardless. The Daily Mail reader who photographed the gang said: ‘I was just near the M25 when I saw this German lorry on the hard shoulder. The driver was talking on his mobile. Maybe he heard something inside his tanker, so stopped. ‘As I went past the tanker, I saw these people start coming out of the hatch on top. They were all covered in this white stuff that looked like flour, but seemed to be from the Middle East. They were a bit unshaven and shaggy. ‘They were not running across the fields, just walking slowly and smiling. I think they were happy because they managed to cross the border.’ Last night Kent Police said: ‘We were called at around 8.15am on Tuesday by several members of the public who reported seeing a group of men getting off a lorry on the westbound M26, near to where it joins the M25. The men were on foot, described as being covered in a white, flour-like powder. ‘Officers, assisted by sightings by members of the public, arrested nine men in the Sevenoaks area on suspicion of entering the country illegally. They have been taken to Dover and handed over to the UK Border Agency.’ The Border Agency said: ‘Immigration Enforcement officials were contacted by Kent Police after they attended an incident on the M26 on Tuesday. ‘Nine men – four Syrians, two Iranians, an Egyptian, an Iraqi and a Palestinian – were arrested at the scene on suspicion of immigration offences.’ But it admitted: ‘Four of the men – two Syrians, an Egyptian and an Iranian – have since been released on immigration bail while their cases are considered by the Home Office. ‘If they are found to have no right to remain in the UK they will face removal. The other men remain in immigration detention pending their removal from the UK.’ The Home Office said: ‘When suspected illegal immigrants found on lorries are arrested by police, we respond quickly. ‘We work closely with police to tackle illegal immigration. Where someone is found to have no legal right to remain in the UK we will take action to remove them.’ Last night a Home Office spokesman refused to discuss the nine arrivals in detail but suggested that the four who were set free would have been given transport to a hostel where they would be housed rent-free. They would be given information on how to apply for benefits for asylum seekers, which would start with cash payments of £36 a week, and be told to check in regularly to dissuade them from absconding again. The Home Office spokesman claimed to have no figures for the number of clandestine arrivals caught in Kent – saying immigration control centres were in France and Belgium, not England. By Karl Foulkes - An ex-taxi driver and fast food worker who paid to have sex with a Shropshire schoolgirl has been sentenced for a paltry two and a half years imprisonment at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Mohammed Islam Choudhrey was thought to have paid over £600 to the teenager in the course of a just a few months. He had admitted a charge of paying for the sexual services of a child between January and December, 2009. Judge Michael Challinor told Choudhrey that he had ‘cynically used the young girl for sexual purposes’. He stated Choudhrey’s actions had been relentless and the harm to the Telford teenager was enormous. Incredibly Judge Challinor believed that Choudhrey was not part of the usual filthy Muslim predatory gang and that he had actually been KIND to the victim ! The judge said “But the offence is serious and the age difference makes you dangerous to young girls who must be protected,” Choudhrey, of Solway Drive, Sutton Hill, Telford, was made the subject of a Sex Offences Protection Order for the next seven years. The judge directed that a second accusation of paying the girl for sex should lie on the file. She said that Choudhrey met the vulnerable girl, when she was 16 and he would shower her with food, alcohol and cannabis and that the teenager had already been heavily abused by two other men who were manipulating her and using her as a prostitute. Defence for Choudhrey, Mr Denis Desmond said his client had not corrupted the girl and had treated her well and gave her gifts. The money came at later dates. He said Choudhrey had been oblivious that the other men were getting the cash from the girl. Mr Desmond said that as a consequence of the case Choudhrey had been disowned by his family and ostracised by the local Muslim community. Delete the scoop?
