Child bride, 13, dies of internal injuries four days after arranged marriage in Yemen

A 13-year-old Yemeni girl died of internal injuries four days after a family-arranged marriage to a man almost twice her age, a human rights group said.
Ilham Mahdi al Assi died last Friday in a hospital in Yemen's Hajja province, the Shaqaeq Arab Forum for Human Rights said, quoting a medical report.
She was married the previous Monday in a traditional arrangement known as a 'swap marriage', in which the brother of the bride also married the sister of the groom, it said.
Sigrid Kaag, regional director for UNICEF, said in a statement that the United Nations child agency was 'dismayed by the death of yet another child bride in Yemen'.
'Elham is a martyr of abuse of children's lives in Yemen and a clear example of what is justified by the lack of limits on the age of marriage,' SAF said in a statement.
A medical report from al-Thawra hospital said she suffered a tear to her genitals and severe bleeding.
The Yemeni rights group said the girl was married off in an agreement between two men to marry each other's sisters to avoid having to pay expensive bride-prices.
The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and drew the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages.
Legislation that would make it illegal for those under the age of 17 to marry is in serious peril after strong opposition from some of Yemen's most influential Islamic leaders.
The group said that was a common arrangement in the deeply impoverished country.
Yemen's gripping poverty plays a role in hindering efforts to stamp out the practice, as poor families find themselves unable to say no to bride-prices in the hundreds of dollars for their daughters.
More than a quarter of Yemen's females marry before age 15, according to a report last year by the Social Affairs Ministry.
Tribal custom also plays a role, including the belief that a young bride can be shaped into an obedient wife, bear more children and be kept away from temptation.
Last month, a group of the country's highest Islamic authorities declared those supporting a ban on child marriages to be apostates.
A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed and sent back to parliament's constitutional committee for review after some politicians called it un-Islamic. The committee is expected to make a final decision on the legislation this month.
Some of the clerics who signed the decree against a ban sit on the committee.
Further imperilling the effort is the weak government's reluctance to confront the clerics and other conservative tribal officials, whose support is essential to their fragile hold on power.
The issue of Yemen's child brides got widespread attention three years ago when an eight-year-old girl boldly went by herself to a courtroom and demanded a judge dissolve her marriage to a man in his 30s.
She eventually won a divorce, and legislators began looking at ways to curb the practice.
In September, a 12-year-old Yemeni child-bride died after struggling for three days in labour to give birth, a local human rights organisation said.
Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.

Beaten, forced to marry, drugged, murdered, all in a days work for Muslims in Britain

Beaten, forced to marry, drugged, murdered, all in a days work for Muslims in Britain | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
A murder victim had applied to social services to move home because she was scared of her family, a court hears.

By Nick Martin, North of England correspondent
Shafilea Ahmed, the teenager whose dismembered body was found on a river bank nearly seven years ago, appealed to be moved out of the family home because she was "scared going back to my parents," a court has heard.

The A-level student made the emergency housing application to social services on February 5, 2003 - seven months before her disappearance - saying she was being beaten at home by her parents, jurors were told.

The contents of the form were revealed for the first time in public by prosecuting barrister Mr Andrew Edis QC, as he cross-examined Shafilea's father Iftikhar Ahmed for the second day at Chester Crown Court.

The 52-year-old taxi driver and his wife Farzana are accused of murdering their daughter at the family home in Warrington, Cheshire, on September 11 2003.

They both deny the charges.

At the time of the application, the teenager said she was being "forced into arranged marriage in Pakistan". Shafilea said she was suffering "violence and threats of violence" adding that "since I was 15 or 16 years old, one parent would hold me down while the other hits me."

Shafilea wrote that she was "scared of going back to my parents".

Ahmed said he was not aware of her application at the time and knew no reason for it.

Last week, Mrs Ahmed dramatically changed her defence case claiming her husband began "hitting and slapping" Shafilea on the night she disappeared.

The court heard that Shafilea had run away to Blackburn, Lancashire, for 10 days in January 2003 and, when she came back to Warrington, asked a teacher at school to help her with a rehoming application.

She also tried to apply for income support, the court heard.

She wrote that there had been "a build-up of violence towards me. My mother told me I was about to go to Pakistan for an arranged marriage. Teachers were told I would be absent from school. I would prefer to stay in Warrington", the jury heard.

The court heard that, during the time she had run away, her parents were contacting her friends and ringing her mobile phone in an attempt to find her.

Shafilea sent two texts to her mother, the first read: "I'm safe. I'm okay. Stop ringing people up about me. I'll contact you soon. Bye."

And then she later sent a second which said: "Don't you get it. Stop ringing me. I'll talk when it want," the court heard.

Ahmed denied the reason why his daughter was running away was because he was entering her into a forced marriage in Pakistan.

"You are a liar," said Mr Edis QC. "I am not a liar," he replied.

"You were clipping her wings, weren't you?'" said Mr Edis. "She was complaining of violence, of money begin taken from her, her phone being taken away, and kept at home."

The court heard how, days before the trip to Pakistan, Ahmed asked the doctor for a prescription after suffering headaches, being given prescription drugs that could have side effects of dizziness and disorientation.

Mr Edis said: "The next morning your wife gave Shafilea drugs to make her compliant. She gave her orange juice and drugs."

"It was just a soft drink," Mr Ahmed replied. "She was not drugged and taken to Pakistan."

Grandmother dies from kidney failure after Indian doctor misdiagnoses her condition as HOOKWORM common on sub-continent

Grandmother dies from kidney failure after Indian doctor misdiagnoses her condition as HOOKWORM common on sub-continent | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Dr Neeraj Tekkar wrongly believed Eva Hudson was suffering from the infection common in the sub-continent when she was rushed to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset.

Doctor reassured grandmother's family she had hookworm and sent her home.
Coroner says 'neglect' a contributory factor to her death.
Doctor still working at Royal Bournemouth Hospital but GMC says his position is 'under review'.

A grandmother died after an Indian doctor made a ‘catastrophic error’ by misdiagnosing kidney failure for a poverty-related infection common in the sub-continent.
Dr Neeraj Tekkar wrongly believed Eva Hudson was suffering from hookworm when she was rushed to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset.
Hookworm is parasitic infection of the intestines that is prevalent in underdeveloped parts of the world like southern India but is rare in Britain.
Dr Tekkar had only moved to the UK in 2009 and started working at Bournemouth Hospital in 2011.
In fact Mrs Hudson, 77, was suffering from kidney disease which Dr Tekkar did not spot and the mother-of-three and grandmother-of-five died four days later.
At an inquest into her death, a coroner recorded a verdict that Mrs Hudson died of natural causes with 'neglect a contributory factor'.
Mr Sheriff Payne, the Bournemouth coroner, added that she may have been alive today had she received proper treatment.
He said: 'He came up with a novel diagnosis that she was suffering from hookworm - he reassured the family.

'He effectively ignored readings that showed renal impairment. He should have got further advice on that aspect and not let her leave the hospital.
'I think she may well have been saved or lived longer if there had been more attention carried out.'

Dr Tekkar is still working at Bournemouth Hospital but his position is currently under review by the General Medical Council.
Afterwards Mrs Hudson’s daughter Julie Sansome blasted the Dr Tekkar, who qualified as a doctor in India in 2003, as well as hospital bosses.
She said: 'Dr Tekkar made a catastrophic error of judgement in misdiagnosing my mum.
'However, we feel the blame must also fall on the shoulders of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital for allowing him to be left unsupervised in a situation where he was able to make life or death decisions.'

The Bournemouth inquest heard that Mrs Hudson, from Moordown, Bournemouth, first became unwell last October and lost two-and-a-half stones in weight.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance on December 18 when she was seen by Dr Tekkar.
He diagnosed hookworm as he suspected that Mrs Hudson could have caught it from faeces when looking after her daughter’s dog.
The doctor told the inquest that he identified hookworm as 'a possible diagnosis in the absence of an obvious cause.'
He added: 'I understand it is not very common in this country.'
He then sent her home to recover, a decision later questioned by his superiors.
Dr Karim Hassan, lead consultant at Bournemouth Hospital, said: 'It is a big lesson. Any incidents of such calibre are taken very seriously.
'We have made sure that this case has been well discussed and all the lessons have been learned.'
Asked if Mrs Hudson should have been allowed home, he added: 'My clinical sense would have indicated to me to investigate further.'
Mrs Hudson was rushed back in to hospital three days later on December 21. She then underwent a CT scan and an emergency operation was carried out on her. She died the following day.
The cause of her death was given as complications from a strangulated hernia and kidney disease.
The GMC is due to make a decision on Dr Tekkar’s position in the near future.
Mrs Hudson worked as a shop assistant and had a cleaning job. She leaves daughters Julie Sansome, Sharon Brown and son Michael and five grandchildren.

How many more whites must die for multiculturalism? Christopher Nathaniel, left, is charged with the murder of Danny O'Shea, right

Black friend of Ashley Cole charged with pack attack murder of white teenager

A black business associate of footballer Ashley Cole was this week charged with the murder of an 18-year-old white man.

Christopher Nathaniel, 40, was part of a pack of nine men charged with murder and conspiracy to commit GBH over the fatal stabbing of Danny O’Shea.

The teenager was knifed in the neck after being chased down the street by a mob in Canning Town, East London, last December.

Nathaniel brokered a deal last year allowing Ashley **‘I hate England and the f***ing people’ Cole to open a branch of US rapper Jay-Z’s 40/40 restaurant and bar chain.

Ironically, the ‘businessman’ was also involved in anti-knife crime causes, and had meetings with former PMs Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

He was a director of Man United player Rio Ferdinand’s Live The Dream foundation.

He has also represented Usain Bolt and Cole’s Chelsea teammate John Terry.

The other defendants are Paul Boadi, from Docklands, east London; David Hylton, 47, from Holborn, central London; Andrew Johnson, 35, Paul Johnson, 33, and O'Neil Wareham, 29, all from Harrow, north west London; Ferron Perue, 23, from Birmingham; Kevin Richards, 32, from Harlesden, north London; and Nugent Rowe, 29, from Pinner, Middlesex.
They are all due to appear at the Old Bailey on September 25 for a plea and case management hearing.

Portugese murderers allowed to stay in Britain to enjoy a 'Family Life'

Portugese murderers allowed to stay in Britain to enjoy a 'Family Life' | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Two brothers who murdered a man in his own home have been allowed to stay in Britain together because of their human right to a ‘family life’.

One of the grounds for granting the second brother authorisation to remain was so he could be near to his sibling – who had already successfully evaded deportation himself.

In 2003 Nuno and Luis Ramos were part of a mob that ransacked a businessman’s house, brutally tortured him and callously left him to die.
The judge who sentenced them for the despicable crime said they should be sent back to their homeland, Portugal, at the end of their sentences.

But after a legal battle lasting five years, immigration judges have revoked the deportation orders.
In Nuno’s case, the judge said the adjudication was established partly on his ‘right to enjoy’ a family life in Britain with his girlfriend, even though he does not live with her, their baby boy and Luis, 24, his brother and accomplice in the murder.

It is the latest example of how article 8 of the Human Rights Act is helping to halt the removal of some of the worst foreign criminals.

In the past year alone, 26 have been permitted to stay in the country because of their ‘right to family life’.
The Ramos brothers arrived in Britain from Portugal in 1998, aged twelve and ten.

In July 2003 they were members of a gang of eight youths, including three girls, who invaded the north-west London home of Joao DaCosta Mitendele, 47, to steal from him.

Mr Mitendele was battered with a baseball bat, stabbed in the legs, bound by his hands and feet, and had a black cloth bag tied over his face.
The gang fled with cash, valuable jewellery and several other items, leaving their victim lying face down in his hallway. He died in less than an hour.

At the trial, Nuno Ramos admitted manslaughter and conspiracy to rob, while Luis denied both offences but was convicted by a jury.
Judge David Paget, QC, called the crime ‘wicked and callous’.

Nuno was jailed for nine years and Luis for seven, for manslaughter and conspiracy to rob.

The Home Office gave orders to deport both men when their sentences had finished.

Luis, the first to be freed, appealed against deportation and claimed a sickening win.
Nuno then launched an appeal while still in prison in 2008.

Despite the killing, and two further drugs offences committed after his release, immigration judges said he does not represent a threat to the public.

This, amalgamated with his right to a ‘family life’, meant he could stay.

Last week, Home Secretary Theresa May published new procedures for judges which state foreign offenders should normally be deported, irrespective of their claims about having a right to a family life.

It seems that Mr Mitendele’s ‘right to a family life’ was viciously taken away from him 9 years ago and this is a heinous slur on his and his family’s memory.

Only the British National Party have the courage to stand up and call for a halt to this madness and would ensure every last foreign criminal would be sent packing after completing any prison sentence.

Religion of Peace? Killed for singing wedding songs while clapping their hands

Religion of Peace? Killed for singing wedding songs while clapping their hands | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Officials in Pakistan investigate whether four women who apparently sang and watched as two men danced have been murdered in a so-called 'honour' killing.

Video footage of the men and women, who gathered as part of a wedding celebration, has been widely seen.

Villagers say the women were later killed. Local officials deny this.

The men in the video appeared in court on Wednesday charged with creating conditions for tribal violence.

Local officials not only failed to produce the women in the court on Wednesday but were also unable to produce any proof they were still alive, as directed by the court earlier.

Tribal elders' decree?
The video, first circulated about two months ago, shows four women sitting on the floor of a room, chatting and singing wedding songs while clapping their hands. A fifth woman is said have been an accomplice.

A decree was allegedly issued by tribal elders for them to be killed because it was thought their actions brought dishonour to their community which frowns on men and women fraternising or dancing together.

Also seen in the video are two young brothers, one of whom dances to the sound of the women's song. The other films the video, at one point turning the camera to himself.

The BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad says that there is no shot of the men and women together, and it is unclear if they were in the same place at the same time.

On Wednesday, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province - where the incident in Kohistan district is alleged to have happened - argued that local custom did not allow women to travel in male company or face questions from male members of a judicial bench.

He said this could lead to local legal complications.

He suggested that a commission be constituted, including officials and human rights activists, to conduct an inquiry in Kohistan and submit its report to the court.

But the court ordered that the women, if they were alive, should be brought to Islamabad.

It suggested that the authorities should take some women activists with them who could provide the Kohistani women with female company during their journey.

The village is at least two days' journey on foot from the nearest highway, and only helicopters can reach the area quickly.

Lying Bradford hospital consultant jailed for causing death of young mum

Lying Bradford hospital consultant jailed for causing death of young mum | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A HOSPITAL consultant whose gross negligence led to the death of a young mother-of-two in West Yorkshire has been jailed for two years.

Consultant urologist Sudhanshu Garg, 44, was led out of the dock at Leeds Crown Court as many of those in the public gallery looked on in tears.

The court heard how 37-year-old Lisa Quinn died at Bradford Royal Infirmary on Monday August 25, 2008 – three days after she went into the Accident and Emergency Department suffering from a kidney infection.

Before that, a judge was told, she had been a fit and health young mother.

Mrs Quinn – who left children aged 10 and 12 – was admitted to hospital on a Friday and her condition deteriorated over the Bank Holiday weekend.

She was not given a crucial ultra-sound scan until two days after she arrived at the hospital and Garg missed vital opportunities to properly investigate what was developing into a life-threatening infection and blockage.

A judge heard how, on the Sunday evening, Garg missed an chance for Mrs Quinn to be transferred for emergency treatment at a hospital in Leeds.

She eventually got the nephrostomy treatment she needed on the Monday evening but died soon after.

Garg admitted gross negligence manslaughter earlier this year.

Sentencing him, the judge, Mr Justice Globe, said he had no choice but to send him to prison.

The judge said: “Your plea means that your breach of duty was causative of Lisa Quinn’s death and cumulatively it amounts to a disturbing picture of a failure to take action.”

He said that if Garg had performed his duties correctly “the overwhelming probability is that she could have survived”.

The judge also described how Garg falsified Mrs Quinn’s medical records in a deliberate attempt to cover his failures.

“It was a blatant attempt to disguise and conceal evidence of your failures,” he said.

The judge said it was extremely rare for a doctor to be convicted of gross negligence manslaughter.

Gage, of Cottingley, near Bradford, stood in the dock wearing an open-neck, short-sleeved shirt as he was sentenced.

The court heard he qualified as a doctor in India in 1991 but all his post qualification training was in the UK and he got his first consultant’s job, at Bradford, in 2006.

Mark Ellison QC, defending, told the court he was now a “broken man”.

Murdered Yasseen Ali’s father told detectives he had no knowledge of his son’s injuries

Murdered Yasseen Ali’s father told detectives he had no knowledge of his son’s injuries | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

The father of a murdered seven-year-old boy repeatedly told detectives in interviews that news of his son’s injuries came as a devastating shock to him.

Postal worker Yousef Ali Ege, 36, was emotional and struggled for words in the video interviews played to a jury at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday.

He told officers he had struggled to believe the details of the fractures to his son’s wrist, ribs, finger, skull and collar bone that prosecutors allege were caused by his wife Sara Ege, who denies murder, on the day young Yaseen Ali died.

“I can’t understand… I don’t know what to say… what can I say,” he said
“A doctor told me my son just passed away from the smoke without suffering any pain. Now it’s like my son suffered.

“He suffered and I didn’t know about it. I don’t know how any of those injuries appeared on him.

“I cannot believe Yaseen could have suffered like this.”
Prosecutors allege Ege must have known about the injuries caused before the fire at the family’s Cardiff home in July 2010 after which his son’s charred body was found.

Injuries found on the little boy’s body included earlier fractures which had healed and the severe abdominal damage which had split his bowel and killed him.

Asked over and over again, if he had caused them or if he knew who had, Ali repeated that he had known nothing until the findings of the post-mortem examination were revealed in disclosures read to him by his solicitor Matthew De Maid.

With Mr De Maid sitting beside him in the interview room the husband who also works as a taxi driver in the city repeatedly denied hitting Yaseen himself.

“No… No… I never hit Yaseen,” he said.

“He never complained about any pain. I was with him in the car every day taking him to school and other places he had to go.

“It is just shocking to me. I thought until now that my son passed because of the fire.

“My wife never told me about any injuries, the school never told me of any concerns, nobody picked it up. We all thought Yaseen was fit and well.

“If I had thought he was injured I would have spoken to Sara and we would have taken him to the doctor.”

Yousef Ege said the last time he saw his son, he had been standing in the hallway as he left the house some four hours before the 999 call was made by his wife to the fire service.

“He looked fine,” he said.

“He didn’t look as if he had any problems – he was just standing in the passage.”

A telephone call brought him back home as the emergency services were outside.

He said: “My wife was in the street wearing an oxygen mask. I was told Yaseen had already gone to the hospital. We went in another ambulance.”

His words were read and played on video recordings to a jury at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday, where Sara Ege, 31, the wife he married after an arranged meeting at her home in India denies murdering their child and perverting the course of justice by trying to burn his body.

Ege sits in the dock, some feet away from her, accused of failing to protect the little boy – a charge he denies.

Yaseen, whose teachers have said they noticed he was sometimes in pain and advised his mum he should see a doctor, died from what prosecutors say must have been more than one impact to his lower body.

The injuries caused were said by a pathologist to have set up a chain reaction which resulted in organ failure.

His charred body was recovered by firefighters who fought in vain to revive him on the front forecourt of the Ege’s home in Severn Road, Canton which has been described by prosecutor Ian Murphy QC as a ‘well appointed property’.

It was later discovered he had not inhaled any smoke but had been dead before the blaze started in his bedroom.

Sara Ege, a graduate in maths and statistics, who was a full time mum recovering from cancer and volunteer school helper, first told police she had been hitting Yaseen with a stick for some time.

She said she did not know why because he was such a good boy – and said she had burned his body to protect herself.

But she later withdrew that statement, instead blaming her husband for the injuries, saying he had threatened her.

She also said voices told her to start the fire she ignited with barbecue gel from their kitchen cupboard but then said someone else had done it.

Yousef Ege, one of a family of six from the Arab Emirates who settled in Cardiff when he was aged nine, told police he was present when his son was born prematurely and had a “perfect” relationship with him.

“Yaseen was my boy,” he said.

The day after his questioning, his solicitor handed a prepared statement to police which outlined his movements the day of the fire.

In it, Ege wrote: “I have a good relationship with my wife and my son – there is no violence in our family home.

“Yaseen had just moved to what we thought was a better school but did not go that day because he didn’t have a teddy to take their teddy bears’ picnic.

“He was happy whenever he went to school.

“I would like to add that we would never harm our family – we were so proud – it was everything to us.”

Returning to the catalogue of injuries noted on Yaseen’s body, he went on: “It is very distressing – I have thought about this all night and I can’t find words…

“I find it very difficult to take in – I can’t make sense of it.

“I have lost my son. I don’t know how my wife is… I find myself sitting in a police station trying to put words together.

“I cannot put words together.”

(proceeding)

DRIVER WHO KILLED AS A HIS PASSENGERS SCREAMED GETS THREE YEARS

A speeding driver who ignored screams from his passengers as he mowed down and killed a pedestrian was jailed for three years.

Hasnam Iqbal, 22, was hurtling along at more than 50mph in a 30mph zone when he struck Pelistan David, killing him instantly.

Iqbal swerved onto the wrong side of the road as he approached a zebra crossing in High Street North, East Ham, east London, forcing oncoming vehicles to take evasive action.

Dazzled by the headlights of another vehicle, he ploughed into Mr David before his uninsured Volkswagen Golf collided head-on with another car.

The driver, 90-year-old Reginald Charles, suffered broken ribs, a broken collar bone and damage to his kidneys, following the smash on January 29 last year, which sent his vehicle careering into another BMW.

Sentencing Iqbal at Inner London Crown Court, Judge Ian Darling said: 'This is a tragic case in every sense of that word, and for many, many people.'

He added: 'It was a dreadful piece of driving that had devastating consequences to many people, including leaving behind a 24-year-old widow in Sri Lanka and a grieving brother and sister-in-law. No amount of imprisonment could ever console them.'

Iqbal had borrowed the car from a friend and picked up three passengers just before 11pm to visit a takeaway, said prosecutor Lee Ingham.

'The passengers described his driving a relatively normal until they reached High Street North,' he said.

'Then he started revving the engine and speeding up to the point that the passengers began to be worried. The passenger in the front screamed to him to slow down.'

As Iqbal sped along on the wrong side of the road, the driver of an oncoming Ford Galaxy had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.

It was at this point that Mr David and a friend left a take away shop and started to cross the road

'Iqbal was possibly distracted or panicked by having seen the oncoming head lights of the Galaxy,' said Mr Ingham.

'He continued on the road primarily on the wrong side of the carriageway, and as he did so, he struck Mr David.

'It is likely that he died more or less instantly fortunately.'

Iqbal broke his own leg in the smash, and one of his passengers had to have the top of his middle finger amputated after his hand was badly injured.

Ronald Jaffa, defending, said Iqbal had deep remorse for what had happened.

Reading a letter to the court from Iqbal he said: 'I feel immeasurable sorrow for the family of the deceased.

'I was in bed injured for a long time in hospital and had time to reflect on my stupidity and the heartbreak the family must be feeling.

'I have nightmares and flashbacks.

'I am a close-knit and family oriented person. I understand the meaning and feelings of deep loss and profound sadness. I feel deeply sorry that I have been the cause of such distress.'

Iqbal, who had no previous convictions believed the car to be insured when he borrowed it, added Mr Jaffa.

Iqbal of Meanley Road, Manor Park, east London, had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

South West Nationalists: Enriched Into The Grave

South West Nationalists: Enriched Into The Grave | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

This is the face of 67 year old Victor Parsons.

He was savagely beaten with a lump of wood, punched, kicked, and left to die in London's Alexandra Park on the 5th of January last year. He died of his injuries seven weeks later.

Also killed by the same attacker was Keith Needell, 84, beaten to death. This attack took place at Queen's Wood, and Mr Needell was discovered with a fractured skull and severe facial fractures. He died from his injuries six months later.

Another five men - although police believe there may be more victims who have yet to come forward - survived savage attacks by the same individual.

There was no motive of robbery, it was "violence for violence sake, committed by the same man, in the same geographical area" to use the words of the prosecution.

Now facing life imprisonment after being convicted of both murders, and five other attacks in which the victims survived, is one Ali Koc.

"There can be no doubt that Koc is a highly dangerous and predatory individual who derived some warped sense of gratification from carrying out these abhorrent attacks" said Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield.

Koc, aged 30, is of Turkish origin, and came to the UK with his family when he was in his early teens.

Before these attacks he was well known to police. He'd been jailed for possessing a knife in 2008, and for burglary in 2007. His long criminal record also includes theft, possession of cannabis, ABH, assault.

Yet...he was still in the country after this huge catalogue of offences to go on and commit murder in 2011.

It gets worse. Koc survived off of benefits, and was known for being aggressive to Job Centre staff.

Not only did we import a violent Turkish psychopath who rewarded Britain by committing an array of crimes which finally culminated in the brutal murder of two defenceless pensioners, we were paying for him to be here.

From funding this wretched creatures existence via the benefits system, we'll now go on to fund another large amount of years in a five star prison - or, perhaps most likely, an even more costly and luxurious secure psychiatric unit.

Either way, Koc will get his 3 hot meals a day, a warm bed, TV, and ne'er a worry about doing a days work or having to make ends meet. He'll probably get a council flat and a giro on his doorstep every week if/when he's released.

Meanwhile, two pensioners have been enriched into the grave. Just another episode among many in the new, multicultural hellhole called Britain - it's enough to make anyone break down and cry.

Man stabbed to death in front of his family

Man stabbed to death in front of his family | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Alan Smith, 63, pictured, was repeatedly stabbed in a 'frenzied attack' in front of his horrified family in a cafe in east London.

A father out celebrating his daughter's birthday was brutally knifed to death in front of his horrified family just because he asked if a crying child was alright, a court was told yesterday.
Alan Smith, 63, was repeatedly stabbed at least five times as he sat with his partner, daughter and son-in-law in a cafe in east London.
His alleged killer, Matthew Quesada, became enraged when Mr Smith approached him in the BB Cafe to ask if his young daughter, who was crying, was okay, the jury heard.
Quesada responded 'What's it to you? What's it got to f****** do with you?' before storming out of the cafe.
'Humiliated and angered' by what happened and 'bent on exacting revenge' Quesada, then aged 25, ran to his girlfriend's home to drop off the girl and grab a weapon.
He then raced after the family as they entered a second diner - the Roma cafe - where they had gone to eat to avoid any further trouble.
With a knife concealed up his sleeve, Quesada then allegedly launched a 'frenzied and wordless' attack, stabbing Mr Smith in the head and body.
As his daughter Estelle Jenkins tried to get between her father and his attacker, Mr Smith struggled up from the bolted down table before falling to the floor where he kicked out in a vain attempt to stop the onslaught, the court heard.

Quesada only fled when his son-in law Mark Jenkins threw a chair at him, halting the attack, as Mr Smith's horrified partner Denise Facey looked on, the court was told.
As Mr Smith's life ebbed away an air ambulance doctor had to perform emergency heart surgery on a cafe table that formed a 'make-shift operating table.'
He was flown to hospital where he died from his wounds, three of which were fatal.

Quesada, now 26, denies murdering Mr Smith on March 26 last year.
Roger Smart, prosecuting, told the Old Bailey jury Quesada accepts he stabbed Mr Smith and the issue will be his state of mind at the time.
The court heard in the lead up to the alleged murder, Mr Smith was waiting for his family to arrive at the BB Cafe in London's Leyton when Quesada entered with his crying daughter.
After a few minutes when the crying did not subside and while Quesada washed his daughter's hands in the sink, Mr Smith approached to ask if everything was alright with the little girl, it was claimed.
However, the dad of two reacted angrily and tried to push past a waiter to get into the kitchen but was blocked and he stormed off with his daughter after being refused to use the cafe's phone.
The Old Bailey heard as Quesada went next door to borrow a phone Mr Smith's family arrived.
As Mr Smith told them they would eat elsewhere, Quesada was overheard saying 'I need the piece' over the phone as he stood glaring as Mr Smith and his family left the cafe.
As they walked off Quesada shouted out 'You see. You? I'll see you.'
Mr Smart said: 'A warning. A man in an aggressive state. A man humiliated, angered by what had happened inside the BB Cafe, bent on exacting revenge.'

Teenager stabbed girlfriend to death in front of their month-old baby

Teenager stabbed girlfriend to death in front of their month-old baby | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A young mother was stabbed to death by her ‘violent and controlling’ ex-lover in front of their baby daughter, just hours after he promised not to hit her again.

Myles Williams, 19, broke into Kirsty Treloar’s family home and stabbed her dozens of times on January 2 this year, after she told him she did not want to see him.

The teenager knifed his victim’s sister and brother as they tried in vain to protect their 20-year-old sibling at the house in Hackney, east London, before dragging Miss Treloar into his car and driving away.

A court heard how Williams, of Clapton, pulled up when he came across a friend a short distance away and told him: ‘I just stabbed my girl and she ain’t breathing,’ before casually smoking a cigarette.

He then dumped Miss Treloar’s body behind some wheelie bins, abandoned his car and fled.

Mere hours before the attack, Williams had sent Miss Treloar – who had given birth to their daughter weeks earlier – a text message to tell her his new year’s resolution was not to hit her again.

Williams is facing a life sentence after being found guilty of murdering the trainee nursery nurse following a trial at the Old Bailey.

The jury was told how the teenager sent a text to Miss Treloar on New Year’s day which read: ‘Okay wer all gud now and my new yrs ressy is that i aint going to hit u again and i won’t hit u 4 this yr next yr the yr after that the next yr after that.’

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said of the message: ‘This can only be described as a conditional new year’s resolution. It ended the following morning.’

Miss Treloar – who had tried ‘many times’ to cut all ties with abusive Williams – replied to his text at 6.30am on the morning of January 2 and told him she did not want to see him.

The teenager then forced his way into her east London home and launched himself at Miss Treloar, who was holding their baby daughter.

After hitting his ex-girlfriend several times Williams launched a frenzied knife attack, stabbing Miss Treloar 29 times and wounding her sister Gemma, 24, and brother Dean, 23, as they tried desperately to intervene.

‘Family ripped apart’: Kirsty Treloar’s sister Gemma, left, and brother Dean, right, photographed outside the Old Bailey, were both wounded as they tried to protect their sibling from her violent ex-boyfriend Myles Williams
The court heard how Gemma Treloar was stabbed in the arm as she pleaded with Williams not to take her sister – described by the Sheffield University student as ‘one of life’s beautiful people’.

When Dean Treloar tried to defend his sisters Williams stabbed him three times in the chest.

Williams then dragged his wounded ex-girlfriend to his car, drove a distance of two miles, then stopped to speak to a friend and buy cigarettes. The pair stood next to the car smoking before Williams dumped the young mother’s body and fled.

The court was told how Williams and Miss Treloar met in early January 2011 while he was working sweeping the streets outside Hackney Job Centre.

Miss Treloar briefly moved in with the 19-year-old but the relationship quickly turned sour due to his ‘violent and controlling’ nature and she returned to the family home in Hackney.

In a witness statement read out in court, Miss Treloar’s mother Pamela Dabney said her daughter had obtained a child care qualification and was looking forward to her life as a new mother and to working with children.
‘Myles Williams has taken a decent, loving, close family and ripped us up,’ she said.

‘The last year of Kirsty’s life was made a living hell by someone who was jealous of her relationship with her family and friends.

‘Kirsty tried many times to cut all ties but unfortunately she felt she had no means of escape.’

Williams was found guilty of murdering Kristy Treloar and of wounding Gemma Treloar and Dean Treloar.

He is due to be sentenced on Wednesday.

Surprise suprise - Woman Stabbed to Death in Northfield Taxi, police looking for 'Asian'

Surprise suprise - Woman Stabbed to Death in Northfield Taxi, police looking for 'Asian' | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Police are searching Birmingham for a man who’s suspected of stabbing a woman in a taxi.

The woman, who was 22 years old, died at the scene following the incident at 8am at the junction of Dimsdale Road and Hoggs Lane in Northfield.

She’d been a passenger in a taxi along with a man, who ran away from the scene after she was injured.

The taxi driver called the police and ambulance service but the woman died from her injuries at the scene.

DCI Wayne Jones, from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, said: “Officers have sealed off the scene of this incident, and are making significant enquiries in the local area as we search for the man who ran from the scene.

“We believe that the victim and the suspect are known to one another and one line of inquiry is that this incident is domestic related.”

“The suspect we are searching for is described as a mixed-race Asian man, around 5ft 8in tall, in his 20s, with short black hair. He was wearing a dark jacket.”

“We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has seen this man, to come forward and contact police.”

Dimsdale Road, Hoggs Lane and Norrington Road have been closed whilst emergency services work at the scene and detectives begin forensic examinations.

Superintendent Andy Shipman, from Birmingham South Police, added: “We urge local people to come forward to help with this investigation.

“Our officers are out in the area conducting house to house enquiries and speaking to members of the community to offer some reassurance to those distressed by this morning’s events.”

“Violent crime is very rare in south Birmingham and we hope local people can be reassured that this is being treated as an isolated incident between two people, at this stage of the investigation.”

“Relatives of the victim are being informed and will be supported by specialist liaison officers from West Midlands Police.”

Remembering 7/7 - The Bombers

Remembering 7/7 - The Bombers | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

The four men who carried out the 7 July bombings were young Muslim Britons who had led apparently ordinary lives. Their profiles are below.

Mohammad Sidique Khan, 30, Edgware Road bomber
A married father-of-one and teaching assistant, Mohammad Sidique Khan was the oldest of the bombers and is thought to have taken the lead role.
Raised in Beeston, Leeds, he was the youngest of six children born to Pakistani immigrants who had taken British citizenship.

Friends from his teenage years recall a highly Westernised young man who insisted on being called "Sid".

Khan was known to the MI5, but officers assigned to investigate him were diverted to another operation.

Following the attacks a video message recorded by Khan emerged in which he said he was a "soldier" at "war".

His bomb, detonated on a westbound Circle Line train, killed seven people.

Shehzad Tanweer, 22, Aldgate bomber
Shehzad Tanweer was born in Bradford but lived most of his life in the Beeston area of Leeds.
Neighbours described the sports science graduate as a "nice lad" who could "get on with anyone". Friends said he was very religious, but did not express an interest in politics.

In 2004 he travelled to the Pakistani city of Karachi along with Khan.

The two became known to the security services, but were on the periphery of other surveillance operations.

Tanweer detonated his bomb on the eastbound Circle line, killing seven others.

Jamaican-born British resident Germaine Lindsay spent his childhood in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, not far from the other bombers' homes.
He converted to Islam in 2000, took the name Jamal and, at around the same time, started to associate with troublemakers.

At school he was disciplined for handing out leaflets in support of al-Qaeda.

In many ways Lindsay's life was unsettled, but in 2002 he married a white convert to Islam, with whom he had a young boy. A daughter was born after his death.

Lindsay carried out the most deadly of the bombings, killing 26 on the Piccadilly line train.

Hasib Mir Hussain, 18, Tavistock Square bomber
Teenager Hasib Hussain was known as a quiet student with few friends whose life attracted little outside attention during his early teens.
Hussain was a second generation British citizen whose parents were of Pakistani origin. He grew up in Holbeck, on the outskirts of Leeds, and was the youngest of four children. He was still living with his parents when he died.

While still at school, he went on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

His family said they were "devastated" to learn he was the bus bomber who claimed 13 lives on 7 July.

There is NO 'Honour' in Murder

Blanked-out windows, high metal railings, CCTV cameras and monitors - this is a building with high security.
I have come to one of a handful of refuges in Britain especially for Asian women and their children.
They are victims of violence in the name of so-called "honour", and they have all run away from a husband's home where the extended family has made their lives a misery.
In Asian and Middle Eastern communities, controlling women's behaviour is seen as key to the honour of the family.
Having a boyfriend, wearing make-up or Western clothes, refusing to marry someone chosen by your family or leaving an abusive husband - these can all be seen as dishonourable acts.
All the women I meet have put their lives in danger by coming to a refuge. They are frightened at first in front of the Panorama camera but I reassure them we will not show their faces and gradually they open up with their shocking stories.
They all came from Pakistan as young brides, had their passports taken away and were often locked up, not even allowed to learn English.
They suffered in silence, cut off from the outside world. They were treated as virtual slaves, doing all the housework, and none of them understood what they had done to deserve such treatment.
Qawal had freedom in Pakistan but that all changed when she came to England and was beaten not only by her husband but his mother as well.
"My mother-in-law hit me in the face so hard that blood poured from my ear," she told me. "I didn't know anything about the outside world, I couldn't speak the language and didn't know anything about money."
When Qawal hurt her leg after being thrown down the stairs, her mother-in-law came with her to the doctor so she was afraid to ask for help.
"They kept me a prisoner in the house. Once I was locked in the upstairs bedroom for 13 days," said Qawal.
"I thought the only way I am going to get out is through the upstairs window or by killing myself. I just wanted to end it."
Qawal finally escaped, barefoot in the snow, and ended up in the refuge.
The only way out
The suicide rate amongst south Asian women in Britain is three times the national average, as women who see no other way out of an abusive marriage take what they see as the only way out and kill themselves.
And there are between 10 and 12 cases of "honour" killing a year, all of them characterised by extreme violence.
Often several relatives are involved and the murder is sanctioned by the wider family.
Women in the Kurdish and Iranian communities are also controlled by "honour". I met a young Kurdish woman, Leila, who came to the UK to join her husband, who turned out to be violent and unstable.
"He put his hands around my throat and said he would kill me and cut me in pieces and put me in a rubbish bag - no one would know," said Leila softly.
She ended up in hospital but she was pregnant and returned to her husband until things got so bad the police were called, and she was able to escape. But running away has not ended the threat to her life.
"The dishonourable thing I did was to go into a refuge because in Kurdistan a refuge is seen as a very bad place", Leila told me.

Victims spoke to Panorama, with their identities concealed
No one really knows how many "honour" crimes there are in this country. The Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organisation (IKWRO), has recently carried out a survey of police forces statistics, which found there are 2,823 "honour" crimes a year. That's nearly eight a day.
But a quarter of forces did not respond and many crimes go unreported, so the figure is far higher.
There is now a national helpline for victims of domestic violence caused by "honour". Calls to the service have doubled in the four years since it was set up, to 500 calls a month.
At the helpline in an anonymous office building, I met a volunteer who is the victim of an "honour" crime. Neina was disowned by her family for running away from her husband when he beat her.
"Every time he hit me… my parents would say: 'Why did you raise your voice to him? You know you deserved it,'" said Neina.
Neina knows what motivated her parents. "For them to be disowned in society is a matter of honour for them. It's easier to sacrifice a son or a daughter than it is to sacrifice a society or your extended family, who you are trying to please all the time."
Neina nodded when I asked her if she was ever afraid she would be killed. "A lot of times, even now... my Dad has already said it to me: 'If you leave him (your husband) you are going to make me do something I don't want to do,'" she said.
Although they were still afraid, all the women I spoke to were determined never to go back to their abusive families.
All of them wanted to make a new start in Britain, get an education and raise their children to reject the code of "honour" which had blighted their mothers lives.

“The hammer didn’t do it, I had to strangle her to kill her,” says MUSLIM asylum seeker who murdered his girlfriend, 17

“The hammer didn’t do it, I had to strangle her to kill her,” says MUSLIM asylum seeker who murdered his girlfriend, 17 | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

“The hammer didn’t do it, I had to strangle her to kill her,” says MUSLIM asylum seeker who murdered his girlfriend, 17

A failed MUSLIM asylum seeker from Iran who strangled his British girlfriend to death after learning he was to be deported, was jailed for at least ten-and-a-half years today.

Ako Amin, 19, flew into a rage and battered 17-year-old Cheryl Tariah with a hammer after she showed up at his hostel bedroom unexpectedly. He then grasped his hands around her neck, choking her to death in a ‘prolonged’ attack, the Old Bailey heard.

A neighbour overheard Amin shouting out other men’s names, before Cheryl told him: ‘Don’t hurt me, leave me alone and get off me.’ The shouts were followed by screams and choking that could be heard through an open window in the street below.

After covering his victim’s body with a duvet, Amin casually strolled to a nearby library, where he bragged to a friend: ‘The hammer didn’t do it – I had to strangle her.’

Iranian-born Amin, applied for asylum, but was rejected and he had exhausted the appeals process the day before the killing on February 7 this year.

Judge Richards Marks QC told him his ‘wicked act’ had deprived Cheryl’s mother – whose husband died in 2010 – of a loving daughter’s ‘comfort and support’.

‘This is a shocking incident in which a young woman has lost her life and the consequences for Cheryl Tariah’s mother can only be imagined,’ he said. ‘She lost her husband in 2010 and is left by herself to look after a severely autistic son. ‘She now no longer has that comfort and support through your selfish and wicked behaviour – for there is no other way to describe it.

Cheryl, who lived in Tottenham, north London, and was studying art at Chelmsford College in Essex, had been in an ‘on-off’ relationship with her killer for around a year.

But she often found him to be possessive, jealous and controlling. ‘He refused to let her talk to other boys or let her go to parties,’ said Mrs Whitehouse. ‘It was said he hacked into her Facebook and email accounts and changed her password to stop her sending messages.’

Danai Muhammadi convicted of killing wife and son in Chatham arson | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

Jealous husband Danai Muhammadi has been convicted of murdering his estranged wife, son and father-in-law in a 'wicked' arson attack on their home in Chatham.

Melissa Crook, 20, and 15-month-old Noah were killed by the blaze in the early hours of September 10th last year. Her father Mark Crook, 48, died a week later from his injuries.

Second-hand car salesman Muhammadi, 24, and his friend Farhad Mahmud, 35, were found guilty of three counts of murder and two of attempted murder at Maidstone Crown Court today.

Muhammadi's girlfriend, 21-year-old Emma Smith, was acquitted of those charges, but convicted of three counts of manslaughter.

Judge Mr Justice Sweeney warned Muhammadi and Mahmud they faced the prospect of being told they will spend the rest of their lives behind bars when they are sentenced.

Prosecutors told the court Muhammadi planned the 'wicked attack' in meticulous detail following the breakdown of his marriage to Ms Crook.

Illegal immigrant killed Leeds couple drink driving at 100mph on Stanningley bypass

Illegal immigrant killed Leeds couple drink driving at 100mph on Stanningley bypass | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

AN ILLEGAL immigrant has been jailed for nine years after he killed a couple in Leeds when he ploughed into the back of their car at a speed approaching 100mph while drunk.

Eduard Mereohra smashed into the back of David and Dorothy Metcalf’s Fiat on New Year’s Day, forcing it 10ft into the air and causing it to flip end over end before coming to rest.

Mr Metcalf, 68, was killed instantly while his 65-year-old wife was found hanging out of the rear passenger window and later died.

Mereohra had been out drinking on New Year’s Eve and the following morning was collecting parcels in his car with a passenger.

Leeds Crown Court was told how several witnesses had earlier seen him driving at speed, tailgating motorists and forcing them to brake sharply when he overtook them.

Mereohra, from Moldova, who had entered the country illegally on two occasions, was driving along the Stanningley bypass in his Volvo C70 when he crashed into the back of the couple’s car.

The court was told he was twice the drink-drive limit having attended a New Year’s Eve party, later telling police he had drunk beer, whisky and champagne.

Mereohra, 26, ran away from the scene of the accident after initially approaching the wrecked vehicle, and lied in police interviews about who was behind the wheel, the court was told.

Judge Geoffrey Marson said Mereohra had “callously” tried to blame Mr Metcalf for causing the accident and had done “almost everything you could to protect yourself”.

He described the victims as “decent and hard-working”, who had “everything in their retirement to look forward to”.

He added: “You had been drinking heavily throughout the night and early in the morning that dreadful day.

“You were driving your motor car and were collecting parcels at 11 in the morning.

“You have been described as being ‘very drunk’. There then followed a prolonged, persistent and deliberate course of very bad driving at a time when you were about twice the legal limit for driving.

“I emphasise deliberate because the evidence shows that on the dual carriageway you were driving close behind a number of other vehicles, overtaking them at speed and cutting sharply in front of them causing them to brake.

“This was otherwise a clear dual carriageway and the only conclusion I can draw is that in your drunken state you had made a deliberate decision to drive aggressively in relation to other motor vehicles at that time. Your motor car was a weapon achieving a speed of 90mph-100mph in a 60mph limit.”

Mereohra, 26, from Autumn Grove, Burley, admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

After the case, Deborah Martin of solicitor Irwin Mitchell said: “This is an extremely tragic accident that led to the deaths of a much-loved couple. Eduard Mereohra’s reckless behaviour has torn this family apart by stealing David and Dorothy from their two children and grandchildren.

“It is a relief for the Metcalf family that Eduard has been jailed for 9 years and will return to his native Moldova once his sentence is served.”

Mr and Mrs Metcalf’s son and daughter Clive and Lindsay said in a statement: “We would like to thank those members of the public who stopped to help our parents. Unfortunately, the accident was so severe that there was nothing they could do to save them. What those people saw that day will no doubt live with them for the rest of their lives – more lives affected by the selfish actions of one person.

“No sentence will ever be long enough for the person who changed our lives forever on New Year’s Day 2012, when he took away our parents and our children’s grandparents, through his thoughtless, dangerous and illegal actions.

“We have been told that he is sorry, but we simply cannot accept that as a genuine apology.

“Having been deported from the UK once before he chose to return to this country illegally; he chose to drink all night and get behind the wheel of his car; he chose to drive erratically and at extremely high speed, weaving in and out of traffic; he chose to flee the scene of this horrific incident and when questioned by the police, denied being the driver of the vehicle and refused to be tested for alcohol.

“Given those circumstances, we think the only thing he is sorry about is that he was caught.

“Mum and Dad were hardworking, honest taxpayers who had planned responsibly for their retirement and should have had 20-plus more years to enjoy together.

“We were a very close family and we are lost without them. This incident has shocked the community and devastated our family. We are still struggling to come to terms with our loss.

“On top of our grief, we also have a number of questions that we need the Government and the immigration authorities to answer about how Mereohra was able to exist in the UK without detection, especially after his previous deportation.

“While we hold Mereohra responsible for his actions, we feel that our beloved Mum and Dad would still be alive today if the system had not failed by allowing him to be at liberty in the UK.”

A Kosovan refugee Drink driver jailed for six years after baby girl died following village car crash

A Kosovan refugee Drink driver jailed for six years after baby girl died following village car crash | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it

A DRINK driver who caused the death of a baby girl born 20 days after a crash in which her pregnant mother survived has been jailed for six years.

Gurim Pajova, a Kosovan refugee who had no licence or insurance, was almost three times over the limit after an all day drinking session when he failed to negotiate a bend on a narrow country road crashing through a hedge before ending up in a field.

Lincoln Crown Court was told that his passenger Sarah Miles, 23, suffered seat belt bruising to the area of her abdomen where her unborn child was lying in the womb.

That set off a series of events which led to the baby, Nicole Miles, losing her life just 25 minutes after she was born at Grimsby Hospital.

Miss Miles, from Grimsby, was 24 weeks into her pregnancy when the baby was born and the child’s death was directly as a result of the premature birth which doctors said was in turn due to the injuries her mother received in the crash.

Pajova was arrested and after being summonsed to appear in court he then disappeared only to be arrested as he was leaving the country on a Eurolines bus heading for France. Pajova was travelling on a fake Slovakian Passport when officials stopped him at Folkestone and claimed he was going to visit friends.

Gordon Aspden, prosecuting, said: “Without the car crash baby Nicole would not have died in the way she did.”

Pajova was breath tested at the scene of the crash at Covenham St Bartholomew, with the reading showing 95 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of breath compared to the legal limit of 35 mgs. Pajova was a friend of both Miss Miles and her brother and not the father of the baby. Miss Miles later told police: “I thought he was sober when we got in the car.”

Pajova, 24, of no fixed address, was convicted of causing the death of baby Nicole Miles by careless driving while unfit through drink following the collision on March 28 2010. He was also found guilty of causing death by driving while uninsured, while driving without a licence and failing to provide a specimen of urine. Pajova admitted a further charge of possession of a false passport. Pajova did not give evidence. He admitted driving with excess alcohol and without either a licence or insurance but denied the crash contributed to the death of baby Nicole.

Judge Sean Morris jailed Pajova for six years and banned him from driving for five years.

Joanne Staples, defending, said Pajova had a difficult life having grown up in war conditions in Kosova. Miss Staples said Pajova arrived in the UK at the age of 14 smuggled in on the back of a lorry and later was fostered out after being taken into care. “He knows he should not have been driving in the first place.”

Ali Koc: Sadistic killer is jailed for life after battering two OAPs to death and attacking five others in north London | Race & Crime UK | Scoop.it
Turkish Ali Koc, pictured, pounced on his victims during a 'wanton' crime spree - described as 'violence for violence’s sake' - in parks and woodland close to his home.

A man who battered two pensioners to death and attacked five others with a 'caveman's club' was jailed for life today for his string of 'senseless' assaults.
Turkish Ali Koc, 30, pounced on his victims during a 'wanton' crime spree - described as 'violence for violence’s sake' - in parks and woodland close to his home.
One of two elderly men who died from attacks had been out on a routine morning walk which 'cost him his life', prosecutors said.

Sentencing Koc at Woolwich Crown Court, south-east London, Mr Justice Calvert-Smith told him the unprovoked attacks illustrated the 'diverse nature of London’s population and the best and worst of its citizens'.
Koc, 30, beat his victims with lumps of wood, before head butting, punching and kicking them.
Earlier this week, he was found guilty of the two murders and five other attacks on men who were either out jogging or dog walking.

Illegal immigrant jailed after causing M6 death crash

AN illegal immigrant who escaped before he could be deported caused an horrific crash on the M6 near Coventry that killed a 54-year-old dad.

Iqbal Balla Singh, came to the UK from India in 2000 but his application to stay here permanently was rejected.

But before he could be removed he absconded and wasn’t caught until the fatal crash on December 17 last year.

Singh, 39, of no fixed address, was driving a hire van on the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Corley Services when he fell asleep at the wheel and then swerved to avoid a car right in front of him.

He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the car in front of the one he swerved to avoid.

After the crash the car he hit clipped a concrete post and flipped onto its roof.

Occupants Malcolm Anderson, his wife Deborah and son Jason, 13, all of Stechford, Birmingham, were on the way back from a family wedding. The car behind, which Singh swerved to avoid, contained Mr Anderson’s three daughters.

Mr Anderson died at the scene from his injuries.

Paramedics attended the incident and treated occupants of all three vehicles involved.

Police also attended the scene where they found that Singh had given false details.
