MeetingWords: Realtime Collaborative Text Editing

MeetingWords: Realtime Collaborative Text Editing | MyWeb4Ed | Scoop.it

Here's a great idea.  The next time you are attending a meeting, you, along with your peers, can take notes that are saved on the web.  Your group can edit the notes together and changes are instantly shown on everyone looking at the notes.

There's the ability to chat while taking notes and have an ongoing backchannel discussion regarding the event or presentation.

There's no sign-up or cost either, making it easy to begin to create your text.

Super idea for BYOT and BYOD activities!

MyWeb4Ed. Teachers. Technology. Together. | MyWeb4Ed | Scoop.it

Carol Mortensen has twenty-four years of educational experience. She began as a substitute teacher as she worked toward her degree. Upon graduation, Carol began teaching middle school Math and Algebra I and served as the technology liaison for her campus. She served as a teacher for 16 years and was lucky to have taught at Hillcrest Middle School, a 1:1 campus where every student was issued a laptop computer. She also worked as an Instructional Technology Trainer for her district providing training and technology integration support for campus and district staff, faculty and administrators.

Carol has served as the Campus Technology Integration Specialist at Fairmont Junior High and South High School in Deer Park Independent School District. In this position, Carol provided integration support and training to the students, staff, faculty, and administrators at the campus and district level. In addition, Carol is an online Math instructor for Aventa Learning and K12.

The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) named Carol the Classroom Teacher of the Year for her innovative and creative use of technology to create a 24/7 virtual classroom using her classroom website. Carol has presented at school districts throughout Texas as well as state and local conferences on a variety of technology integration topics. Her article on the use of websites as an instructional tool was recently published in the TechEdge Magazine. In February 2011, her article, Lessons Learning In a 1:1 Classroom, was published by TechEdge. The article will be republished in ISTE‘s Learning and Leading magazine. She was named Fairmont Junior High’s Teacher of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year.

Carol is passionate about the positive impact that technology has on student achievement. Her presentations are packed with real-life solutions, quality resources, and humor. She has an ability to connect with her audience and motivate them to take technology integration to a higher quality level.

5 Simple Tools For Teachers To Create And Publish Apps Of Their Own - TeachThought

5 Simple Tools For Teachers To Create And Publish Apps Of Their Own - TeachThought | MyWeb4Ed | Scoop.it
"What with the almost universal proliferation of smartphones among students, even at the elementary school level, it would seem like a no-brainer for an educator to utilize mobile apps as effective and readily-accepted learning tools. And if an educator can’t find an app that does exactly what he or she wants, the logical next step is to develop and publish their own. Besides, what else do they have to do with all the free time with which all educators are blessed?"

Five Best Web Hosting Companies

Five Best Web Hosting Companies | MyWeb4Ed | Scoop.it
When you're ready to take your data into your own hands and run your own blog, own your own photos, and host your own apps, it's time to find a good web host that can put it all on the web for you, give you the tools, bandwidth, and storage you need, and support you when you need help. Thankfully, there are dozens of great companies looking for your business, and this week we're going to look at five of the best, based on your nominations.
Carol Mortensen's insight:

Signed up for DreamHost to move MyWeb4Ed to them as I'm not very happy with my current domain holder,  iPage.  Their service is really lacking!  This is a really great deal with the LifeHacker code (thought it's 1 free domain, not two! )  Recommend giving them a try and they were voted most popular!

What Are the Dangers of Using an Untrusted USB Drive?

What Are the Dangers of Using an Untrusted USB Drive? | MyWeb4Ed | Scoop.it
USB keys, pen drives, memory sticks--they're not necessarily as harmless as you might think. Before you insert one that you don't 100% trust, think about what might go wrong (hint: a lot). The Super Users at Stack Exchange list a few very realistic USB nightmare scenarios.
Carol Mortensen's insight:

I think educators are the worst at trusting when someone hands out a free USB stick.....it's such a common practice and makes us more vulnerable because we don't think twice about accepting it and using it!
