Women’s soccer taken seriously in Germany, U-20 teammates say

Women’s soccer taken seriously in Germany, U-20 teammates say | MyHealthShare Medical Reporter | Scoop.it
Rebecca Knaak was one of those youngsters who didn’t know any other way to pass the time. She grew up with a ball at her feet, as did Theresa Panfil, who spent every spare moment playing in the tiny village of Fuerden-Kellerei. In a country where the sport of soccer rules, and where the women’s game has become as prominent as the men’s, it’s little wonder the two German teens have a similar tale to tell.

Seniors and people with disabilities block tech buses in S.F.

Seniors and people with disabilities block tech buses in S.F. | MyHealthShare Medical Reporter | Scoop.it
The shuttle buses that ship techies from San Francisco to Silicon Valley have become loaded symbols over the past year, physical targets for community outrage over the tech boom's role in the city's skyrocketing rents and growing income gap. On Friday morning, protesters from groups including Senior and Disability Action, the Gray Panthers and Eviction Free San Francisco blocked two tech shuttle buses stopping at 24th and Valencia streets en route to the Peninsula. The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency's much-hyped 18-month pilot program to regulate tech shuttles went into effect Friday, charging commuter shuttles from Google, Apple, Yahoo and other companies $3.55 for every stop per day. [...] protesters argued that small fee is not nearly enough to offset the toll that the shuttles take on seniors and disabled people - though state regulations require that the city's fee not exceed costs associated with managing the program. Tech shuttles, protesters said, create safety hazards for seniors and people with disabilities. The Bay Area Council, a business-sponsored public-policy advocacy organization that helped broker the pilot deal, said that although some issues remain, the group is confident the program will help the city find solutions.
