My X-pro1

Yesterday was my first attempt at taking the new Fujifilm X-Pro 1 on an engagement shoot.. and I loved it! I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about taking the camera into the wedding and engagement world.. especially since I switched to shooting only film quite a few months ago. I met up with a wonderful couple in New York City.. and shot this camera anywhere and everywhere I could.

"I really tried to test it in dramatically different lighting conditions.. and was excited to see that the camera held its own! I really did what I wanted it to do in the field.. and that’s what is important to me. I want to know that regardless of the situation.. I am able to perform my job at the highest level possible."

Few weeks ago I got an opportunity to re-visit the Getty Center in Los Angeles, CA in beautiful Southern California weather. During this visit I had my Fuji X-Pro 1 next to my Canon 5D MK III with 14mm F2.8 L II attached to it. I tried both cameras that day and once I got home to process the photos, I was amazed how my Fuji performed when I compared the photos with 5D MK III!!! I would say in some cases the result was very similar.

While some are experiencing sluggish autofocus performance with the X-Pro1, others found ways around its drawbacks and decided to share their tips and tricks.

The most impressive piece of the act though was the way the X-Pro1 dealt with darkness and stage lighting. There were no cameras allowed during the show so I didn’t get many pictures but the couple I snapped with no flash in silent mode were amazing. This image is straight out of the jpg engine on the X-Pro1 and man I can’t believe the file.

If you are not a pro and want an amazing camera this one is just stunning. If you are a pro and want a traveling camera don’t even think about it just buy it! I mean just look this image! It is literally a super quick snap shot due to pressure and it’s amazing.

Fuji X-Pro1 Diaries: Down By The River

It was a sweltering day, despite the tropical thunderstorm in the morning. By noon, the puddles of water on the pavements and roads had all but dried up, leaving no evidence that just a couple of hours before, it was raining down cats, dogs and other assorted animals. The heat from the ground formed a swirling haze and people took shelter in the relative cool of the shade....

Ok, here are some points I want to get across. Everyone is correct about the great quality. It rivals my Canon 5D Mark II. And that is what any camera of this quality is for.

Finally, I find the depth of field to be very different from my Mark II. That takes getting use to. Now this is normal. It has a bit more depth. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the Fuji. The Canon has a smaller lens barrel, and it is full frame. So there is going to be a difference. I just want people reading this to know this so they can make adjustments for it. Below are 2 images. The right is the Mark 2, left is the X -Pro1. They are the same ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. You can see how the quality in both is just outstanding. And you can see that the depth of field for the mark 2 is different. So with the X Pro1, just remember to adjust the aperture as necessary.
