Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It

Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It | Better know and better use Social Media today (facebook, twitter...) | Scoop.it

Social Media Anxiety
Got to love social media. First social media has to prove it matters and isn't just a game then people worry about "doing it wrong". Yes there are "wrong" ways to create social media content...remember when we all started sharing exactly what was happening in the moment? Don't do that anymore.

Next we had the quote stage and now we seem to be getting the idea of how to surf social media. Some still have anxiety about jumping in or doing the wrong thing.

The half-life a tweet is hours. Remember you are in an ocean of content, so surf don't try to hold, compress or rule it. Here is another anti-anxiety pill for SMM. Look around, I've yet to follow or RT someone so brilliant I shouldn't be allowed in the same social space (lol). Yes they are out there, but I may never find them :).

Social media is the great level. What you can SEE and FEEL fast is we all have the same obsessions, fears, strengths, weaknesses, doubts and frustrations. Social shows our humanity in all its glory and aspirations.

Here is the other issue. If you are an Internet marketer, and who isn't these days, then social media anxiety can HURT. Don't let your "Sistine Chapel" perfectionism stop you from making social media mud pies. M

What do you think the most popular filter on Instagram is? Valencia for a little fade? Kelvin for photographical equivalent of spray on tans? Maybe Earlybird?

Can #NoFilter be considered a filter? But even more than filter popularity, what do using specific filters say about you? This infographic explains.

Social Nets Are Cool, But Blogs Are Content Marketing's Work Horse

Social Nets Are Cool, But Blogs Are Content Marketing's Work Horse | Better know and better use Social Media today (facebook, twitter...) | Scoop.it

Don't Be Fooled, Blogs Rule Influence and Conversion

Social nets form a vibrating membrane of marketing communications. Social nets vibrate and bang off each other like bumper cars. Social signals are the confirming truth of the new SEO and so very important, but when it comes to conversion and sharable influence your BLOG rules.

This post from @TMGmedia is very specific and helpful in reminding content marketers that blogging is about money. Social nets are moths to a light, needed and important but you won't be the only moth attracted to that flickering light.

Blogs, especially blogs well supported by social media, create distinction and voice. There is only ONE company that sounds like YOU (hopefully that is true even if you have multiple authors writing for you).

Resist the corporate tendency to smooth out all the edges and create a zombie voice. Distinct beliefs voiced with strength and confidence promotes shares and relationships. Be a human or accurately voice your company's human character.

Remember to share as much as you preach and balance your approach (not all long posts, not all short posts). Do what fits the content and your discovery / message and do so with authenticity and honesty and your tribe will grow.

Note: yes those are Magnetic Poetry Kit words, the cool gift item created by David Kapel the gift company I co-founded brought to market all thos years ago :).M

Be Careful and Model SMM
A truth we've known for some time revealed, exposed and shameful. Attribution, even before social media marketing, was a difficult. Now, post SMM, it is almost impossible. I will never forget our CFO instructing me to kill our "non converting' keywords in PPC.

I nodded, said sure and then didn't. It was going to be too hard to explain my "tooth" theory (lol). When a system is running and making money online, as ours was, any attempt to do something as dramatic as shut off "non-converting keywords" is sure to introduce a wobble.

Wobbles usually translate into making LESS money, so I nodded and assured him I would and then didn't. I no longer work for this very difficult  employer, but the knee jerk, "Kill it Now" attitude still exists despite its wrecking ball pain and no real benefit.

The bottom line from this extensive study is you must model your social and be generous to attribution all the way along the conversion funnel or you cut off nose to spite face. There are tools such as Argyle Social that can help right this wrong, but most importantly don't let your cost cutting C level kill the Goose laying those golden eggs. Nod and say you will and then DON'T (lol).

TIME is part of Google's algorithm and should be part of your Internet marketing too.

Virus Finder Microsoft's ViralSearch For Twitter Looks Cool

Virus Finder Microsoft's ViralSearch For Twitter Looks Cool | Better know and better use Social Media today (facebook, twitter...) | Scoop.it

"One of the many undying questions from web publishers, marketers, and regular web users is "what makes something go viral?" which, coincidentally, is also something Microsoft is working on.

Today the company revealed a new research project called ViralSearch that uses a search engine to identify the most popular content on Twitter.

ViralSearch scans billions of pieces of information, including news, photos, and video, and assigns a virality rating to the most popular topics based on how the content was shared via Twitter".
