Murphy scraps ill-fated 'Yes for Labour' campaign

Murphy scraps ill-fated 'Yes for Labour' campaign | My Scotland | Scoop.it
JIM Murphy has dumped his widely-ridiculed attempt to reclaim the word "Yes" as a way of reconnecting with the thousands of Labour voters who abandoned his party in the referendum.

Via Peter A Bell

Peter A Bell's curator insight, February 22, 11:46 AM

So "Yes for Labour" goes the same way as the equally disastrous "Truth Team". Just as British Labour in Scotland found itself uncomfortable with the concept of truth during the referendum campaign, so they now acknowledge that they can't live up to the positive, aspirational connotations of the Yes campaign.

The inevitably abortive attempt to hijack Yes is just so typical of British Labour in Scotland. The impression is of Jim Murphy, Blair McDougall and John McTernan hunkered in their wee gang-hut giggling and tittering over their latest ill-thought wheeze utterly convinced that it is a work of the highest political genius which will see off the hated SNP once and for all.

Murphy's only contribution to the pretendy wee party he gets to call himself leader of is a series of half-baked pranks punctuating his fatuous posturing in the media.

The extent of the man's blinkered stupidity is also evident in the fact that he imagines he can relegate the independence referendum to a faint footnote in history. Which is rather strange behaviour for someone who claims the referendum as a great victory. His excuse for abandoning the embarrassing blunder of "Yes for Labour" is that he doesn't want to dwell on the past. It is perfectly understandable that British Labour in Scotland should wish to draw a discreet veil over its alliance with the Tories and the deplorable lies and scaremongering of Project Fear. But for those of us who are involved in the effort to restore Scotland's rightful constitutional status, the Yes campaign stands as our proudest moment to date. And even the less fanatical British nationalists will allow that the referendum was an exemplary exercise in democracy - even if the behaviour of the No campaign was an affront to democracy.

Murphy insults the entire nation when he treats the referendum with such disdain.
