I loved the opening quote that "Advertising has been traditionally regarded as an interuption of the actual experience that people are trying to have"...this is such a powerful evaluation of traditional media. Alot of discussion has been had in regards to social media today and how people dont like recieving adverts, but will happily accept the same messages from friends or people they know. Therefore by using social media effectively advertising agencies can minimise the negative perceptions on their messages being 'advertisments'. The future is an interest place for agencies as they find ways to navigate social media and develop strategies to infiltrate social networks.

the whole societal marketing concept is growing. Not just environmental and sustainable marketing practises but the holistic marketing views of activities that benifit not just stakeholders but the wider community. These messages are often much harder to communicate. Everyone has their own views on how companies perform. Corporations can do alot of good for communities through sociatal marketing initiatives but still be viewed as a "big bad capitalist driven only by profit" by members of that community. Cause marketing can greatly enhance a brands image, but public opinion is often very fickle!

Integrated Marketing Communications - Then And Now - Forbes | My IMC Milestone - 2 | Scoop.it
So I'm thinking I may need to see a doctor or someone in the medical profession for it is becoming quite apparent that I am addicted to integrated marketing communications or at the very least I am obsessively compulsive over it.
James Copson's insight:

Online has a proven increase the message, reach and impact of our marketing Compared to offline. Integrating your messages, benefits, branding etc makes tremendous sense.  If the concept is good enough to take to market, then it should be good enough to be executed in an integrated manner.

great article James :) sums up the theory nicely. I like your comment that if a product is good enough to put to market then it warrants integrated marketing effort. But dont forget that concepts or products are not the only aspects of a marketing plan that need to be intergrated or alligned. The whole vision and strategy, whether built from the top down or bottom up needs to also benifit from integrated communications to ensure clarity both internal and external creating a united focus on the same goals and objectives!
