Leave Your Sin Where it Belongs...at the Cross

Confession is a gift from God by which He replaces the strongholds of our past sin and shame with blessings of forgiveness and freedom, healing and hope.

Heaven: Our Eternal Home

Heaven: Our Eternal Home | My Faith | Scoop.it

According to the Bible, Christians have citizenship in paradise (Phil. 3:20), our treasure is stored there (Matt. 6:20), and it will be our eternal home (1 Thess. 4:17). God is not describing a celestial dream world. Rather, all believers can confidently look forward to being gathered there, in a tangible dwelling place.

Scripture for Self-Control

Scripture for Self-Control | My Faith | Scoop.it
Draw willpower and strength from the Bible.

"I wish I had more self-control!” How many times have you heard someone say that—or said it yourself? Whether it’s sticking with a diet and exercise program or knowing when to hold your tongue, most people feel they come up short in the self-control department. Even the Bible is outspoken on its importance. “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control” (Proverbs 25:28).

Christian Living that Stands Out

Christian Living that Stands Out | My Faith | Scoop.it

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.  (Philippians 2:14-16)

Jessica Gerald's insight:

Whether we are at home, at work, at church, or in any group or situation, there are usually things that we must do that we don't like to do.

Intimacy with God

For Christians, it’s fairly simple to notice other people filling their God-shaped void with all the wrong things. It’s much harder, though, to see that same error in our own redeemed lives. We all too easily get busy for God—serving, singing, teaching, preaching, and going to the mission field. None of these things are wrong; in fact, they’re all good. But they’re often a misguided attempt to create a false sense of intimacy with God.

Hunger and Thirst for God

God predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son, so He planted within us an innate desire to know and be known by the Savior. The problem is that many people, mistaking this yearning for cravings of other kinds, pursue things like affection, flattery, or fame. They go through life trying to create whatever kind of personal connection they can to fulfill desires they don’t even understand. All too often, the result is empty relationships, excessive work, and immoral behavior.

Our Heavenly Appointment

Each tick of the clock brings us one second closer to our heavenly appointment with the Lord Jesus. As believers in Christ, we will stand before Him one day and give an account for our lives. At that time we will be held accountable for our actions and recompensed for the choices we made while on earth, whether good or bad (2 Cor. 5:10).

Maintaining Joy

Though some people use the terms happiness and joy interchangeably, there is a vast difference in their meaning. Both cause a pleasant emotional response, but the former relies entirely upon circumstance. As soon as difficulty arises and pain intrudes, a person ceases to be happy. On the other hand, joy is a gift from God that enables believers to find hope and peace—even when life seemingly falls apart.

God's Perspective on our Troubles

Today’s passage seems to make an impossible demand: how on earth can we “consider it all joy” when we face terrible hardships? Doesn’t this admonition belittle our honest troubles and concerns?

Loving Your Child

As parents, we want our children to love us, spend time with us, talk with us, and stay close to us for as long as we live. More importantly, we would like them to want to do those things. But if we don’t love them unconditionally now, it’s unlikely they will remain nearby in the future.
