What We Really Need To Know About Ed Tech

What We Really Need To Know About Ed Tech | My english website Cas Op de Beek | Scoop.it
Those "5 Things You Need to Know About EdTech" posts seem to crop up on Twitter every couple weeks -- Tech isn't the Point of EdTech, EdTech is about Learning, EdTech is Exciting. But for those who've heard and read it all before, here's a completely different take on that headline.

Are Our Modern Lives Too Automated?

Are Our Modern Lives Too Automated? | My english website Cas Op de Beek | Scoop.it

Are our modern lives too automated? So much of modern life involves us standing absolutely still, like lobotomised privates on parade, while technology goes to work.

In our ever-increasingly electrified, automated world, Stuart Jeffries cries out for a more simplified existence.

162 Future Jobs: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Yet Exist

162 Future Jobs: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Yet Exist | My english website Cas Op de Beek | Scoop.it

A recent article in The Economist quotes Bill Gates as saying at least a dozen job types will be taken over by robots and automation in the next two decades, and these jobs cover both high-paying and low-skilled workers. Some of the positions he mentioned were commercial pilots, legal work, technical writing, telemarketers, accountants, retail workers, and real estate sales agents.

Indeed, as I’ve predicted before, by 2030 over 2 billion jobs will disappear. Again, this is not a doom and gloom prediction, rather a wakeup call for the world.

First there came the computer and brought us more jobs and now comes more jobs and more. Technology brings us a lot more than only freedom he brings us more jobs as well. One small step for men but a big step for the future.

An interesting article that raises a few interesting points though it suffers somewhat ... the issue is portrayed to simply ... you are either "with me or against me". Educators in both public, and private systems must acknowledge that their is room for improvement, and that every initiative we undertake whether it be with, or without, a corporate partner must be carefully analyzed. If there is a flaw in the existing process governing these interactions then let us work on the process without eroding the potential benefits of these partnerships.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, April 10, 2014 1:11 PM

Even without explicit involvement, corporations run our schools. They produce the books and technology we use. They pressure politicians to meet their agenda. It is just more obvious today. In some ways, that is good. We know what we are about against and can make decisions accordingly. What would happen if teachers quit going to school and families stopped sending their children?

Why Netflix in Ultra HD will ruin TV

Why Netflix in Ultra HD will ruin TV | My english website Cas Op de Beek | Scoop.it

Netflix has ruined television forever.

Speaking as an unashamed hi-def snob who'd rather miss out on a show than have to watch it in grotty standard def, I've been champing at the bit to devour native 4K.

Unfortunately, having now been one of the first to watch Ultra HD streamed live from Netflix servers, my beloved Full HD just doesn't look that great any more.

The old acuity-meter has been irrevocably upgraded. Yes, 4K over the internet really is that good.

Wouter de Kort's curator insight, April 11, 2014 3:06 AM

True. For now it's almost impossible to stream 4K to your TV. Were just not having fast enough internet to do that at this moment.

Mauro Tarantino's curator insight, April 11, 2014 4:07 AM
