Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Although technically coffee is 'just another drink' there is so much more to this beverage. What else can wake you up in the morning, tempt you out of your warm bed and accompany any snack or meal? Which other drink can you drink hot or iced, with syrups, cream, chocolate and so many other ingredients and flavors to make it unique?

Coffee is a traditional morning drink and even people who are not keen on eating first thing in the morning would not like to miss their morning coffee. It is hard to imagine sipping a warm, soothing cup of coffee without your mouth watering. Nothing smells or tastes as fabulous as coffee!

Are you tired of the late night trips to Starbucks or other coffee house to get your cappuccino? Having a Cappuccino maker is the answer you have...
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Who doesn't love a frothy cappuccino? I certainly do. This drink is a fantastic alternative to coffee with cream and espresso. You can make your cappuccino as strong or mild as you wish, add any flavor you choose and have fun watching the frothy top being created.

Ordering a cappuccino in a coffee shop will set you back a few dollars but investing in one of the top-rated cappuccino makers means you will be able to prepare your own frothy coffee in the comfort of your own kitchen, any time you please. For the price of about 10 coffee shop cappuccinos you can buy your very own cappuccino maker.

Choose from different styles and designs, and pick out which features you desire, since very machine is different. Sprinkle a little cocoa or cinnamon on top of your homemade cappuccino and you will have a fantastic beverage which is great any time of the day - morning, noon or night.

House Spent About $2M of Taxpayers' Money on Coffee, Pastries

House Spent About $2M of Taxpayers' Money on Coffee, Pastries | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Most Americans start their day with at least one cup of coffee, maybe paying $2 to $5, but many might be surprised to know they also treat their members of Congress to some joe and a bagel or two, as well.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Are you happy that some of your taxes are funding coffee in Congress? No, me neither. If I have to buy my own coffee, why can't they? We are in an age of budget cuts and sensible spending, so the figure of $2 million is shocking to me.

I do not see why Congress has any of its food or beverages paid for with our tax money when the rest of us have to fund our own eating and drinking. And to think, they are complaining about the cost of food stamps! I find the whole thing very illogical.

Adding butter to coffee increases energy: coffee executive

Adding butter to coffee increases energy: coffee executive  | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Butter makes everything taste better and now it's the driving ingredient behind a new coffee fad said to boost energy and increase weight loss.

But there's a catch: you have to use the right coffee and butter.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

I like coffee and I like butter, but do I like them together? Actually I admit I am rather behind on the latest coffee fad and I have not sampled this delicacy, so I cannot say whether it tastes good or not. Apparently though, to get a good flavor, you have to be careful which butter and which coffee you use. You cannot just dump any kind of butter into any kind of coffee.

This article talks about butter in coffee increasing your energy, which is just common sense really, because energy in food and drink is measured in calories, so adding calories is going to increase your energy. I think I will stick to cream in my coffee though, and give butter a miss.

All the Hidden Chemicals That Are Lurking In Your Coffee - Gizmodo

All the Hidden Chemicals That Are Lurking In Your Coffee - Gizmodo | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Caffeine. For most of us, that's the only chemical compound in coffee that's worth a damn. But that's far from the only thing that's hiding in that simmering cup of black (or light brownish) glory that you suck down every morning.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

So what is in coffee apart from water and caffeine? It might surprise you to learn more about what is in coffee. Some of the contents in your morning cup of Joe might surprise you, and I am talking about the ingredients present in tiny quantities but present nonetheless. Some of these ingredients might surprise or shock you, so take a look at this video and educate yourself about what makes coffee smell and taste the way it does.

How Coffee Stifles Creativity - TIME

How Coffee Stifles Creativity - TIME | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Smithsonian How Coffee Stifles Creativity TIME “Sparks shoot all the way up to the brain … ideas quick-march into motion like battalions of a grand army to its legendary fighting ground, and the battle rages.” That's how Balzac described the...
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

I was intrigued to read this title because I have always thought coffee would inspire creativity. I mean, it helps you stay awake doing creative things when exhaustion would otherwise have you sleeping, so why would this alert state not translate into creativity? Coffee can make you more alert and focused, and apparently a wandering mind is the key to getting creative.

A break in concentration often leads to mental wanderings, and that is where creative ideas often spring from. Coffee tends to keep you concentrating instead of discouraging it, so if you are having trouble with a creative project it might be a good idea to switch to decaf for a while.

Summer's healthiest and unhealthiest coffee beverages
Fox News
As summer approaches at a rapid rate, many of us are carefully watching what we eat, but what about what we're drinking?
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

The mocha java chiller from Sonic might be one way to quench your thirst and cool you down at the same time but one of those packs a whopping 890 calories, 41 grams of fat and 72 grams of sugar. Knowing that might make you change your mind, since that is more calories, fat and sugar than you get in the average meal, never mind just in one drink.

You do not have to drink plain, unsweetened black coffee in order to cut down on calories, although if that is your preference go ahead. Try leaving off the whipped cream layer on top or swapping your usual syrup for sugar-free syrup. Swap your extra-large beverage for a small one and enjoy a bottle of water alongside it. If you want to cool down without going overboard on the calories, fat and sugar, there are plenty of smart solutions.

Newsflash: New “Butter Coffee” Trend Might Not Promote Weight ... | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Ah, butter! The most diety-of diet foods, guaranteed to slim your hips and trim your tummy! Wait — are we in an alternate universe? Why are people mixing butter into their coffee in some kind of new health/energy craze?
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Butter coffee has recently hit the news, and this is basically coffee with butter in it instead of the cream and sugar we are more familiar with. It is believed adding butter to your coffee will give you an energy spike and some health-conscious people are adopting this method of drinking coffee believing it to help with fitness and weight loss.

I am not sure how that is meant to work. Butter contains calories, lots of them! All I can say is I will stick to the cream thank you. Butter is fine on my toast or potatoes, but I do not ever want it to feature in my morning coffee.

I did make the recipe smaller so the hubs and I wouldn't eat the whole thing at one time (trust me, we tried the “making the whole batch and putting them in the freezer” and it didn't work) and I did add espresso powder ...
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

These look really good. They are made with ingredients you would expect like butter, flour, sugar, salt and egg, as well as vanilla, chocolate chips, baking powder and espresso powder. What you get is a tasty, rich cookie with the unmistakable flavor of mocha, or coffee plus chocolate. These are chewy rather than crunchy, which is my favorite. I bet these would be fantastic served with a glass of milk or, if you do not mind the coffee flavor of the cookies with the coffee flavor of coffee, then a cup of Joe would work great too.

'Coffee rust' disease means skyrocketing prices on premium coffee
Raw Story
A plant disease called “coffee rust” is rapidly spreading through Central America and could portend big problems for coffee growers and consumers.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Coffee rust is the infamous plant disease spreading through Central America. As you might expect this is causing no end of trouble, and it also means coffee prices are likely to rise because there will not be as much coffee produced.

As well as this, spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands of coffee plantation employees losing their jobs because there is no coffee to harvest. Coffee rust only attacks Arabica coffee plants which are the ones used in top quality coffee, so while mediocre coffee will still be widely available and similarly priced the cost of the premium types is set to rise.

Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe | Decadent Dessert Recipes

Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe | Decadent Dessert Recipes | My Daily Coffee | Scoop.it
Are you looking for a great dessert to bake for your amazing family tonight as a surprise? Try my wonderful Chocolate Chess Pie Recipe today and it...
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Chess pie is a great example of mouthwatering Southern food. It is similar to other pies but the addition of cornmeal is what makes a chess pie unique. Corn syrup is also added to some recipes to give it a gloopier texture. Like most pies, a chocolate chess pie recipe is wonderful when served with a cup of coffee.

Perhaps you have tasted a vinegar pie, and this is similar to a chess pie but features a teaspoon to a tablespoon of vinegar to cut through the sweetness. You do not taste the vinegar in the finished recipe but it does diminish the sweet flavor a lot. This is an idea if you love pie but often find it too sweet. Simply add a dash of vinegar to round out the flavor.

Take a look at this chocolate chess pie recipe and discover how to make this classic dish. You only need 8 ingredients to make it and you can serve this fantastic pie with whipped cream for a fabulous after-dinner treat.

Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Apple crisp makes a fabulous dessert and the tender apple pieces contrast so nicely with the crumbly, crunchy topping. Although apple pie is many people's favorite, apple crisp is another apple dessert which is gaining popularity all the time. Not only is this dessert very tasty but it is also simple to prepare.

Do you have an apple tree or does one of your neighbors have one, or perhaps a family member or friend? If you suddenly find yourself with a lot of apples, then making apple crisp is a wonderful way to use them. Apples freeze well too if you cook and mash them first to make applesauce. You can then thaw the applesauce and serve it as an accompaniment to roast pork or turn it into dessert.

Apple crisp is usually made with chopped or sliced apples and you can freeze apples like that too. Take a look at this easy apple crisp recipe and perhaps you will want to make it for dessert one evening this week.

Espresso Versus Cappucino | Trade Finance Bank

Considerably of this is due to the reality that espresso has to be produced from an espresso machine whereas coffee and other types of cappuccino can either be handmade or placed in a coffee percolator that will give them the desired result.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

What is the difference between a cappuccino and an espresso? Well that one is easy enough to answer. A cappuccino is a shot of coffee topped with steamed milk and foam, while an espresso is a shot of coffee. Some people prefer one over the other while others like a cappuccino with their breakfast and an espresso after dinner, for example. Which do you like best?

Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

This is an unusual recipe, something guaranteed to get my attention. Unusual does not always mean good. In fact sometimes it means very bad. Either way, I was interested to read what carrots cappuccino was all about, since I like cappuccino but usually add milk foam and sugar rather than carrots.

It turns out the recipe is an appetizer rather than a beverage, and is so-named because of its foamy consistency. The carrot soup features cumin, garlic, parmesan and plenty of cream. Carrot is a naturally sweet ingredient and it works very well in this soup if you want something unusual.

Starbucks to begin posting calories of its concoctions in coffee shops
Denver Post
Starbucks wants you to know the amount of calories in that Caramel Ribbon Crunch or Mocha Cookie Crumble coffee when you walk in the door.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

A simple black coffee contains no calories at all but how many calories would you expect to find in a vanilla Frappuccino or in a Starbucks cookie?

Starbucks is the latest chain to post the calorie count of each produce in the shops, which is not only good news for dieters who are tracking their calories but for everyone. We all have the right to know how many calories are in the products we consume.

Armed with that knowledge you might decide the Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino Blended Crème is not worth the 500 calories it offers and settle on a small skim latte instead. Either way, it is your informed choice to make.

Last February, Guatemala declared a state of national emergency.
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

Coffee rust is having some terrible effects on coffee plantations, decimating the plants at a record speed and putting coffee workers out of business almost as quickly. It is believed the climate is partly responsible for coffee rust because the fungus is enjoying the current warm, humid air. That is how it thrives.

Nearly half a million coffee plantation workers have lost their jobs because of this, and that is a shocking number. Every time I read a new article about coffee rust it seems the statistics are getting worse and worse.

Is Coffee Good or Bad For You — and How Many Cups Are Really Too Much?
FitSugar.com
It doesn't feel like a good morning until we've had that first cup of coffee — or second, or third! But is there too much of a good thing?
Christine Szalay-Kudra's insight:

The debate about whether coffee is good or bad for you rages on and on. The truth is coffee has both good and bad elements to it. Coffee contains caffeine which can be addictive and lead to withdrawal symptoms if you stop drinking it, but coffee also lowers the risk of diseases like Alzheimer's and certain cancers.

Coffee contains high antioxidant levels which is great for you too. Many foods and beverages are good for us in moderation but the problems come when your intake is too high. A glass of red wine each day is believed to be good for you but a bottle is not. A couple of cups of Joe per day is beneficial but having 10 cups with cream and sugar is going to do more harm than good.
