StorEDGE: Use your MacBook's SDXC slot to expand your storage!

StorEDGE: Use your MacBook's SDXC slot to expand your storage! | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

StorEDGE is the perfect solution for adding more storage without compromising your MacBook's sleek design. The StorEDGE card sits nearly flush to your notebook, so there's no need to remove it when you're on the go.

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

The PNY storEDGE is available in capacities of 64 and 128GB and available at prices of about $78 and $158.  If you compared this to typical SD cards today, it might seem a bit expensive, however, PNY doesn’t even list this as an SD card; it is an expansion module.  It is meant to provide a permanent capacity increase in your MacBook and this expansion module comes with a limited lifetime warranty which is rarely ever seen.

UPDATE: you can get the 128GB at Amazon for $79.95

Google+ hits 1 billion users! | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

Back in December of 2012 Google announced they had 500 million users, and about 175 million active users. In septembre 2013 they hit 1 billion users including 340 million active users, what a growth!

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

Here are February 2014 updated data: 1.4 billion users and 540 million monthly active users.

Google Plus may not be much of a competitor to Facebook as a social network, but it is central to Google’s future — a lens that allows the company to peer more broadly into people’s digital life, and to gather an ever-richer trove of the personal information that advertisers covet.

How Nokia learned to stop worrying and love Android

How Nokia learned to stop worrying and love Android | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

As of today, Nokia's product line includes the Nokia X, a phone that runs Android, the platform operated by Microsoft arch-nemesis Google. By launching an Android phone, Nokia has invited questions about its commitment to Windows Phone and even the viability of Microsoft's platform in general. That's a very odd thing for such a close strategic partner to do.

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

Nokia hasn't lost it -- there's a logic to releasing its first Android phone, the Nokia X. But it's shaky, and the company should still worry for Lumia.

Iridium Go! hotspot can turn your smartphone into a satellite phone | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

Smartphones are practically everywhere. But if you're in the middle of nowhere without a signal, that iPhone 5s or Galaxy S4 won't do you much good. Many people already turn to satellite phones when they're at sea or in other far-off places, but a new device from Iridium takes a satellite signal and turns it into a Wi-Fi hotspot for your existing mobile devices.

No matter where we are on the planet, Iridium GO!

How to replace your old computer with a new iPad

How to replace your old computer with a new iPad | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

When transitioning from a computer to the iPad there are still a few challenges that you will face along the way. Here are a few steps that may help you leave the personal computer era behind for good.

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

The iPad cut the cord tying it to the PC, meaning you no longer need a PC to setup your iPad. You can also back up your iPad via iCloud.

And for some, this means the iPad can effectively replace their laptop or desktop PC. But the iPad isn't for everyone, and depending on how you use your laptop, you may find that the iPad can't quite replace it yet.

Why Apple's A7 chip will really shine in the iPad Air

Why Apple's A7 chip will really shine in the iPad Air | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

The new A7 processor in Apple's latest tablets and phones will help that even more. At first glance, this is nothing new. Every processor generation ends up being faster and more energy efficient in some way or another, so it's rare that a new CPU itself ends up being news outside of hardcore PC enthusiast circles.

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

The A7 marks a turning point in the iPad's evolving history, just as the introduction of the iPad itself was one for the computer industry as a whole.

Here's the world's first giant-screen Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 1520 | Digital Lifestyle Technologies | Scoop.it

Nokia announced the world's first giant-sized Windows Phone, the Lumia 1520. It will have a 6-inch screen, which makes the phone's display a full inch larger than Samsung's Galaxy S4 and two inches larger than Apple's iPhone 5S. It's also the first phone to take advantage of the newest version of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 software, which has been designed to work on giant "phablets" (part phone, part tablet).

François-Xavier Schaeffer's insight:

A phablet why not, but if you do want to make a phone call, best not to hold the thing to your ear: you may look ridiculous. Invest in a Bluetooth headset and yammer away with your phablet hidden.
