Video Games: The New Spectator Sport [live stream from within games] - Moxie Pulse | mvpx_Vid | Scoop.it

"Live video streaming has been core to the growth of eSports, but now other media properties are tapping into live streams of all video games, not just competitive games. Twitch.TV is a website that hosts live streams of hundreds of games and provides gamers the tools for streaming.

According to Business Insider, Twitch.TV now has over 20 million monthly unique visitors and partnerships with over 2000 professional gamers who stream their gameplay to live audiences all over the world. And big partners are taking note. In April, CBS Interactive partnered with Twitch to build up its live streaming portfolio. Origin, a digital distribution platform made by Electronic Arts, now supports Twitch streaming from within games. With a couple of clicks, users can live stream their Origin-supported games directly to Twitch."

YouTube to Acquire Videogame-Streaming Service Twitch for $1 Billion: Sources | Variety | mvpx_Vid | Scoop.it

"Google’s YouTube has reached a deal to buy Twitch, a popular videogame-streaming company, for more than $1 billion, according to sources familiar with the pact.

The deal, in an all-cash offer, is expected to be announced imminently, sources said. If completed the acquisition would be the most significant in the history of YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The impending acquisition comes after longtime Google ad exec Susan Wojcicki was named CEO of YouTube earlier this year."

Online TV clips will require captions starting in 2016 - TheVerge | mvpx_Vid | Scoop.it

"Right now, companies are required to provide captions for full online videos that first aired on TV. But if those videos are cut up, caption readers are often out of luck — clips and montages don't require captions, even if the full shows aired with them. The FCC just changed that.

The agency already has the authority to force TV broadcasters to add online captions, and created some rules for captioning videos in 2012."

Fullscreen Will Invest $10 Million In Original Programming - TubeFilter

Fullscreen Will Invest $10 Million In Original Programming - TubeFilter | mvpx_Vid | Scoop.it
Fullscreen's motto is "power to the creators." During a presentation at VidCon, the multi-channel network explained how it will live by that mantra. In his keynote address, CEO George Strompolos announced Fullscreen's plan to invest $10 million in original programming.

Fullscreen provides marketing and management support for its partners, a group that includes YouTube luminaries such as Grace Helbig, Shane Dawson, and The Fine Bros. Strompolos' plan is to fund the passion projects of this elite group, thus allowing them to provide even more quality programming for their fans. "We look forward to bringing the best work to you from the best creators of our generation," he said during his presentation.
This isn't the first time Fullscreen has made a significant monetary investment in its creators. For instance, in 2012, it opened up a million dollar fund that it used to support smaller channels. This time, however, we should expect the network to invest in its most prominent partners. "These are the creators that have captured a generation," said Strompolos. "They have spoken to the hearts and the minds of the young. It’s what’s happening now, not what’s about to happen."

YouTube is upgrading to 60fps, adding a tip jar for donations and much more - Engadget

YouTube is upgrading to 60fps, adding a tip jar for donations and much more - Engadget | mvpx_Vid | Scoop.it

"YouTube is about to get a whole lot better, with a slew of new features freshly announced at this year's VidCon. Google's video wing will soon get support for clips running at 48-and-60 frames-per-second, which should be perfect for video game footage that you've captured an uploaded from your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One in addition to those 1080p60 game trailers that are quickly becoming the norm. You'll have to make sure 1080p resolution is selected to get the benefit of the higher frame-rate, naturally, and we've embedded a sample after the break. Customizable and, as the YouTube Creators blog post tells it, prettier-looking annotation cards as well as some new tools that your fans can use are en route, too. What are those? Well, viewers will soon be able to drop you a few bucks here and there so you don't have to rely on ad revenue alone."
