Why Mobile Learning Is Inevitable - Edudemic

Why Mobile Learning Is Inevitable - Edudemic | Must-See Education Technology | Scoop.it
Mobile learning is here to stay. In fact, it's going to be one of the only options for learning pretty soon. This new presentation tells you why.
Edudemic's insight:

This may sound like a lofty title, but it’s not wrong. There’s an impressive presentation making the rounds dubbed “Mobile is eating the World” by Benedict Evans. In the presentation, Evans shows some staggering charts, interesting factoids, and all the other statistics you’d expect with a title so grand. It makes me think about mobile learning, mobile browsing, and mobile everything.

The 8 Characteristics Of A 21st Century Teacher - Edudemic | Must-See Education Technology | Scoop.it
So what are the 8 characteristics of a 21st century teacher? Are they risk-takers, collaborators, and visionaries? Well, yes! Check out the image below to get a clearer picture.
Edudemic's insight:

Some call them ‘connected educators’ while other use the phrase ‘digital teacher’ and many prefer the term ’21st century teacher.’ Whatever terms you use to describe modern teachers, it’s important to know what the terms actually mean. There’s a fabulous wiki devoted to just this topic here which houses some incredible bits of information. It’s by Andrew Churches who has curated quite a treasure trove of useful information for any teacher looking to outline what he or she actually does as a modern educator.

27 Ways To Be A 21st Century Teacher - Edudemic

27 Ways To Be A 21st Century Teacher - Edudemic | Must-See Education Technology | Scoop.it
So what does it take to become a 21st century teacher? This handy chart details more than two dozen ways to get started. A must-read and share.
Edudemic's insight:

You can’t swing an iPad in the hallway without hitting someone talking about becoming a 21st century teacher, 21st century student, or something involving the 21st century. While I personally am quite over that term, it fits and makes sense. I guess. (Personally, I think a better term is ‘modern’ teacher or ‘connected’ teacher rather than just stating that someone exists within this century. Kinda vague, no?)

How Online Learning Is Like Babysitting - Edudemic

How Online Learning Is Like Babysitting - Edudemic | Must-See Education Technology | Scoop.it
It's no secret that online learning is time-consuming and very tough for many students. It's actually not unlike babysitting a three year old!
Edudemic's insight:

Taking part in an online course – whether as a student or teacher – is like suddenly being asked to take care of someone else’s three-year old. A very rambunctious three-year-old. And even though it may have seemed easy enough when you agreed, it demands far more attention that you could ever have imagined. All day long, as you attempt to carry on with the rest of your life it interrupts what you are doing and tosses toys at you and needs to be fed. It may play quietly for a few minutes, but only temporarily. As soon as you try to put it down for a nap, it starts wailing uncontrollably. And at night, when you have checked in on it for what you swear will be the last time and are quietly tip-toeing away so that you can have a few moments to yourself before you too must get some sleep, it jumps up again and asks for a glass of water. Or says it has to go to the bathroom. Or follows you to wherever you are and just stands there staring at you.

The world is filled with people. But what if it wasn't? What if the world were comprised of just 100 people? Where would they live? What would they do?
Edudemic's insight:

Here’s a fresh take on a complex set of data. What if you took all the statistics about everyone in the world and boiled it all down into one question: what if the world was just 100 people? What if you took the billions and billions of people on Earth and made it so only 100 people could represent them? You’d get some super-simplified but interesting stats, that’s for sure.
