Research has proven that children with autism often show high preference for music. Autistic children often memorize lyrics of their favorite songs. This increases speaking, attention, motivation, and emotions in their lives.

Before a child can even start music therapy, an IEP team must decide if the child will react well to the music therapy. If the IEP team decides that they will then a evaluation will be conducted to determine if the child's performance is improving in IEP-related tasks when musical cueing is used.

Music gives children the ability and hands-on experience to think, problem solve, and enhance the creativity. Music therapy is thought to help in the areas of social and language development. Autistic children will sing songs to match the music.

Music allows the child to emote something that they can't say. It also gives the child to ability to cope with the stressors in his/her life.

Music Therapy is a growing treatment that is becoming very popular. Children who are on the autism-spectrum often gain some abilities when they participate in music therapy. The music often helps with their behavior and communication skills.

"Music has the ability to connect the verbal and non-verbal functions in the brain." In Music Therapy, children start with humming or babble some words, but as the therapy continues they are able to put words together to make sentences so that they can communicate.

Autistic children ,believe it or not, are actually really good at music. They have the ability to have perfect pitch or play a musical instrument.Music Therapist use music to help children emote their emotions and also improve memory function. They try to teach them to communicate non-verbally.
