The 5 Best Things about Music Education

Music has a lot of advantages. It is beneficial for learners belonging to any age group. Being a castigatory art it induces discipline and augments the brain’s development.

Children and adult both equally benefit from musical education. While the young brains develop at a greater pace when they get trained rhythmically, adult hobbyists get to brush up their musical skills through music lessons. Additionally, music completely transforms a brain’s way of perceiving things as it induces calmness and discipline in the body and mind of the learner. Moreover, research has proved time and again that simply listening to music can improve the performance of college students in a test. So the benefits of musical education are countless and in this article 5 such best things about musical training being discussed.

1. Music primes the brain to comprehend things better: Children who study music tend to be more receptive when it comes to English and Math skills. They also have larger vocabularies and higher reading skills than their peers. Besides children with learning disabilities or dyslexia are at a great advantage if they undergo music lessons. This is because their brains are better toned to differentiate between toe and pitch which is why they ultimately excel in an instrument. They also turn out to be better team-workers and in the future grow up to pursue further studies for they have better critical thinking skills.

2. Schools having a musical program as a part of their curriculum have a high graduation rate and more attendance percentage. In addition the students of such a school show lower lifetime use of substances such as tobacco, alcohol and drugs. These students also fair better in standardized exams regardless of their backgrounds. Some of them even take up music as a full time career and fair well in life.

3. Research has proved that college goers who take up music or study arts are well behaved, cooperative, deal with peers and teachers better, are self confident and have the ability to express themselves way better than their counterparts. This is because these students have an outlet to express themselves easily and they relate to words, notes, and instruments easily.

4. Adults have reported that music goes hand in hand with the contemporary education process as they can put across their creative element of mind. Moreover, it gives them a good feeling that they carry along all day long. And adults who take up music a little later in life actually experience greater success because their newly found skills prove highly beneficial.

5. Last but not the least, students who work on a musical instrument are less of a discipline issue than those who do not work on one. Especially the kids who go to elementary school experience greater brain maturity levels and ultimately better memory within a year of taking up a musical course.

Thus learning and mastering an instrument or simply enhancing vocal skills is a way to improve the brain’s levels of understanding. Learn How to Play Piano in a Few Simple Step

Learn How to Play Piano in a Few Simple Step | Music Lessons | Scoop.it

The piano is famous for being as creative as it is complicated. The article talks about how to learn piano playing through simple steps and a few basic details that need attention.

The piano is notoriously known as an instrument that is both difficult to play and also provides beautiful and soul rendering music. However, the yearning to learn piano lessons has never quite seen a major decline because it has always been seen as a remedy for those who seek escape from the world of harsh realities into that of creative expression. However, learning how to play a piano is not an easy job and requires a rather methodical approach. One could divide this learning process into three simple steps:

Step 1: Taking care of the Setup and Equipment:

The first step for learning how to play a piano is a no brainer – you have to acquire one! To learn to play, it is highly recommended that you buy a piano of your own. Pianos are available in the market in a wide variety of styles and sizes. However, a medium sized upright piano is the perfect choice for most people as it maintains a much better sound than most compact ones and does not consume as much space as the grand piano. Once the piano is in place, the next item on the list is related accessories. This could include anything between a piano bench, a music book, and even a visit of a professional to get your instrument tuned.

Step 2: Basic Techniques:

Before you start on anything else, learn about your keyboard. Every piano can produce 12 notes that is inclusive of 7 white and 5 black ones. Most pianos are tuned in to a C major as it happens to be the most common key; but a variety of other music can be created by generating a proper mix of black and white keys. One must maintain a keen ear to get the sharps and the flats right; and that can be done only by playing. The best way to learn piano is to keep making notes and try all keys by pushing them slowly, hardly, softly, and fastly till the time you are sure that you can control your exertion of pressure on a key.

Step 3: Skill Development:

Though tuning your piano to simple and popular numbers is a relatively easy job, a true learner should always focus on the harmony. A good way to achieve harmony is to study the sheet music; and though it may seem a little daunting at first, a good teacher or guidebook can help you pick up the basics. Reading sheet music opens up a whole new world of compositions to the piano player. However, an important skill development is to know how to use your hands. With practice, you should be able to use both your hands independently and also move your fingers away from the C major and venture towards the other keys. A last tip would be to learn to use the pedals appropriately.

Music in any form is therapeutic; and the piano is such a classic combination of intricacy and creativeness that it has charmed many people over the years. However, just like anything else in the world, there is only one mantra on how to play a piano perfectly – and that is practice.
