"I Dream of Wires" #Documentary via @cdmblogs

In anticipation of their showcase, MUTEK has released two significant excerpts from the film. One talks to Carl Craig, Detroit techno legend, top. Craig describes how this tech has influenced his music, and what inspired him to look at modulars. The other clip – true to MUTEK’s Canadian home base and the origin country of the film itself – looks at Canada’s contribution to electronic music history. Detroit’s place in techno certainly needs no introduction, but it’s about time Canada got its role in synthesis recognized (below), having given the world pioneer Hugh Le Caine and the University of Toronto Electronic Music Lab, among other highlights. This excerpt turns the clock forward to modern-day synth goodness. We’re of course happy to know of a certain digital synth designed in Canada, but here the modular Renaissance gets the spotlight. As the film creators explain:

The world's hottest digital markets: a music map

Takeaways:

In China, digital music sales are a high proportion of the total (73 percent) because CD piracy is rife, unmonetised, in Asia.
The UK is the world’s most competitive market, with 73 licensed digital services operating.
Some Latin American countries have few music services, making iTunes Store, which recently rolled out there, influential.
CDs still sell well in Germany and France, thanks partly to high sales of classical music.
In the U.S. now, a majority of trade revenue from recorded music comes from digital – a globe-topping $2.2 billion.

I'm a Producer & Engineer. And I'm Invisible on Digital Music Services...

Sure, you probably skip the credits at the end of a movie - in fact, most people leave the theater right when they start!  But the credits - for every last contributor - scroll after every film, without exception. And top-level contributors are always included during the opening minutes of a film.
So why is it that this level of crediting is almost always missing from iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon, Rdio, and almost every other music service, with little exception?  That's the basis for a metadata movement being spearheaded by producer, mixer and engineer Count (aka Mikael Eldridge), whose 'credits' include artists like DJ Shadow, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, New Order, No Doubt, Galactic, Zoe Keating, and Tycho.
Count wants his name included in these artists' digital works - just like physical formats - which is why he's pushing to properly credit performers, producers, and engineers on all online music services.  Here's the argument...
