Students in high school music programs have higher test scores and cognitive development. A U.S. Department of Education study found that those who reported consistent involvement in instrumental music over the middle and high school years show significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12.

The benefits of studying music are innumerable. As seen above, students who study music are academically more proficient, but students who study music are often more self confident and more readily able to express themselves.

Although we may not realize it, a lot of the music we listen to today has been influenced by blues at some point, from jazz to pop, country and even heavy metal. Blues originally surfaced at the end of the 1800s.

The musical elements of the blues genre have heavily influenced contemporary music. The popular 12 bar blues chord progression is pervasive throughout the rock and roll genre and the blues pentatonic scale is used throughout jazz, rock and metal, this makes the understanding of the blues instrumental in the development of music theory.
