And you wonder why the best orchestras in the world fill their ranks with pretty looking things!?!  There's no doubt that humans love to enhance their experience of music with a visual reference.  The explosion of MTV predicted that the number one distribution site for music on the internet would be YouTube. 

 

It's tempting to say that all these competitions should be judged blindfolded, but I think that's missing the point.  The best musicians have always been long on charisma and to eliminate the impact of the visual sense while we listen is too artificial for me.
