» Why Apple Still Loves Its Media Player Business | Music business | Scoop.it

"At Apple’s iPhone event, CEO Tim Cook did a funny thing. He took a moment before introducing the new iPhone 4S to introduce two new iPods: a $199 iPod Touch running iOS 5, featuring Facetime and an HD video camera, and a quite cheap iPod Nano (just $129 for the entry-level model) tricked out with new sensors."

Why the book’s future never happened

Why the book’s future never happened | Music business | Scoop.it

A small digression in the book industry to understand how difficult it is to shift from a model to another in the digital era.

Hypertext novels were considered as the future of writing, capitalizing on computer's abilities to enhance the reader's experience. Years after, this format didn't take off, mostly because of the difficulty to write, and read it.

A remarkable article that makes us understand the difficulty to offer an augmented experience in the content industry.

Time for Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to Step Down?

Time for Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to Step Down? | Music business | Scoop.it

A great article about Netflix by Mashable: even though cinema is not our main topic here, it is pretty interesting to see how difficult it might be for a contents company to move to a new and more sustainable business model without making its customers angry.

Trying to split digital and dvd activities proved to be a major failure, showing that instead of replacing each others, the two business models might need to work together.

It also probably means that Reed Hastings is going too straight forward, forgetting what its customers want, right now.

In a previous article, we wondered if the CD would definitely disappear in the years coming - here might be one answer. It's not about if it's going to be obsolete but when. Reed Hastings saw it coming faster than its customers.
