Emily Gonneau: It’s time artists took centre stage of the music business again

Emily Gonneau: It’s time artists took centre stage of the music business again | Music business | Scoop.it

"It’s funny that. The way everyone is obsessed with the monetisation of music. Or content in general, if you prefer. I’m not saying it’s wrong. But the focus is such that it takes content for granted. As if it was something that just self-generated out of nowhere. Abracadabra! Here you go: content! More content! Thousands, millions, billions of it, hurray!"

Evolver.fm Launches Music App Directory

Evolver.fm Launches Music App Directory | Music business | Scoop.it

Evolver.fm staffers, engineers, and interns have been working on a music app directory behind the scenes for a while now. We quietly launched the first iteration of it just before Thanksgiving.

We have plenty of powerful music-app-discovery features to be thankful for, which we can’t wait to unveil in the days, weeks, and months to come. That said, we hope this new Download Apps feature is already a useful resource for music fans. It currently lists nearly 1,700 music apps for a variety of platforms, although at this point, most of them are for iPhone, iPad, Android, or the web.

A Spotify on Every Laptop, Smartphone, Social Network, TiVO, Car... | Music business | Scoop.it

"Call it the 'supersaturation strategy,' but Spotify is now spreading into every hour of your waking life. Just this week, Virgin Media in the UK rolled out a TiVO-integrated Spotify solution, one that translates the entire Spotify collection and capabilities into the DVR set-top box and remote. But that looks like a small taste of what Spotify is set to announce tomorrow in New York, when CEO Daniel Ek is expected to unveil a new ecosystem of third-party apps, friendly APIs, and another step towards total Spotify ubiquity."
