I got up stupidly early so I could shoot dawn light over the Coronado bridge in San Diego this morning.

Took both the Fuji X-Pro1, and the Fuji G617 Panoramic Camera loaded with Fuji Velvia 50, so was able to record the same scene with both digital and film.

It’s interesting to see how each medium interprets the light – each have their own strengths, and I don’t think there is a ‘right’ look, just multiple variations on a theme.

Ryan Kowalkowski's insight:

brings up a good point that each interprets a scene uniquely, and neither should be considered the "right" way.

Analog vs. Digital: The Verdict - HowStuffWorks | The Media - Digital vs Analog | Scoop.it
Does digital sound better than analog? It all depends on the way you record that sound. Take a look at analog vs. digital sound quality and technology.

Ryan Kowalkowski's insight:

This article explains that the format you should listen on depends on the format the source media was recorded on. Which makes perfect sense.

Ask John Schaefer Anything: Which Format Sounds Better -- Vinyl, CD's Or MP3's?

Ask John Schaefer Anything: Which Format Sounds Better -- Vinyl, CD's Or MP3's? | The Media - Digital vs Analog | Scoop.it

By most anyone’s standards, John Schaefer knows a lot about music. Yet despite his two radio shows and various other music-related projects, we get the feeling he's withholding some of that knowledge. So now's your chance to ask Soundcheck's famously brainy host anything as long as it has something to do with music.

For you fools still believing in the so-called "digital quality"

Nigel Ticknor's comment, November 12, 2014 1:15 PM
Woah. I never realized the true quality of the vinyl record. I think I will start carrying around a record player instead of an mp3 player from now on.

Ryan Kowalkowski's insight:

this opinion brings up the listener's physical interaction with the music. i.e. changing the record and thinking about what to play next is more  immersive than letting a computer do the work.

A lot of people say that records are better than digital music because you are actually listening to the printed sound made at the time it was recorded, where digital music is fake. It also gives the listener a more auditory sensory experience.

"As I embark on a long creative, exciting journey on Need for Speed with DreamWorks, I wanted to share some of my most recent findings from a five day camera test that pushed every camera to its breaking point. Our final choice was a three camera collaborative for the look and feel of this film.

“The Ultimate Camera Test”

The Director, Scotty Waugh, wanted to test all of the latest digital cameras that have come out recently as well as some that have been around for four years, which is rare. He wanted to find his emulsion. I am tested out, so we are going to take a break from tests for a while. Stay tuned for four upcoming posts that will start with the Black Magic camera in a few weeks.

We tested:
Sony F65 • Sony F5 • Arri Alexa • Red Epic •
Canon 1DC • Canon C500 • Blackmagic •
GoPro Hero 3 • 35mm Film • "

Ryan Kowalkowski's insight:

compares uses for each side, but recognizes the advancements that digital has over film. It seems that most film users are in it for nostalgia.

Music Production Evolution: The Rise Of Digital vs. The Vinyl Revival — MusicTank | The Media - Digital vs Analog | Scoop.it

The unexpected sales success of music formatting last year has been labelled ‘The Vinyl Revival’.

Laura Creed, Superfi has delved into how and why the cult following for vinyl has resurfaced in this booming digital age.  Alongside this, she questions the popularity of digital and what this could mean for the music industry.

Below is an explanatory info graphic into the research findings.  Following the info graphic is further commentary to compliment the graphical representations of the study.

There is a desire for music fans to own copies of their albums, but the debate over physical copies vs digital downloads if a finer line.

Music Tank in my opinion is a very reliable source, considering the fact that it is a sector based network for the University of Westminster in England. As for the article itself, it contains many charts, graphs, and infographics that relate to the recent popularity and rise in sales of vinyl LPs.

Clae Wilson's curator insight, November 9, 2014 5:40 PM

The infographic in this article is really cool, as it gives a lot of great visual representations of how music sales have been shifting in past years. It shows that, while vinyl is still only a small sliver of total units sold, it's growing by leaps and bounds and has a very promising future.

Christian Torres's curator insight, October 12, 2015 5:42 PM

Vinyls sale continue growing as the time pass, the Vinyl industry is back in the game again.
