Ten Trends 2014: The singularity |

Ten Trends 2014: The singularity | | Mundos Virtuales, Educacion Conectada y Aprendizaje de Lenguas | Scoop.it
Dr. Doris Molero's insight:

In recent years technology has become smaller, more personalised and more connected. This in turn is affecting the ways we are using technology and our expectations of it as an almost ‘essential’ part of our day-to-day existence. The “singularity” is a concept most often associated with the development of artificial intelligence, and the hypothetical moment in time when we’ll see a complete merging of technology with our lives.

We’ve chosen to use the term for our trend with a slightly broader view, describing the convergence of previously discrete and separately used technologies, as well as the almost ‘invisible’ integration and use of technologies as a part of our everyday life. We’re now seeing the emergence of technologies that we can wear or have embedded within the things we use everyday — or into our bodies. Where these sorts of technologies were once regarded as something ‘external’ to our selves, the yare becoming increasingly ‘a part’ of us — how we live, work, and communicate.

Each year, CORE Education’s experienced staff of researchers, education trainers, and technology experts pool their knowledge and expertise, and through a thorough process put together and publish CORE’s prognosis on what are the coming ten major trends in eLearning and education generally that will make an impact upon education in New Zealand (and other parts of the world) in the coming year.

Interesting while not attending to the fact that the education is becoming a market place where business principles and ethics will dominate and constrain education.

I think the Internet and digital technologies potentially help with PD, but it is not a guarantee. The other day I saw several tweets in my twitter feed that did little but amplify that a possible digital PD session was happening. There was little depth to it.

What Should We Focus On Learning In An Age Where Almost All Information Is At Your Fingertips?

What Should We Focus On Learning In An Age Where Almost All Information Is At Your Fingertips? | Mundos Virtuales, Educacion Conectada y Aprendizaje de Lenguas | Scoop.it
What should we focus on learning in an age where almost all information is at your fingertips? This question was originally answered on Quora by Robert Frost and Balaji Viswanathan.
Dr. Doris Molero's insight:

You have all the information about space in front of you. Now, build me a rocket to take me to Mars.

Data is not information. Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not expertise. Expertise is not execution.

The purpose of education is to provide you the toolsets that enable you take the data around you, make sense out of it, and find out a way to create something productive out of that. As the amount of data around us explode, the necessity for education grows.
