Apple Watch to boost 'glance journalism' - Phys.Org | Multimedia Journalism | Scoop.it
With the Apple Watch expected to sell in the millions, news organizations refocusing their efforts to become part of that tiny screen.
Andy Bull's insight:
From the post: "The emergence of wearables offers a new platform for the news media—one that is fast, personal and always on, says Robert Hernandez, who teaches mobile journalism at the University of Southern California. "The ability to access knowledge will be quicker with the watch," Hernandez told AFP. For newsrooms, it is "a new opportunity to be part of this person's body," Hernandez said. And journalism will find a way to use the smartwatch, he said: "When Twitter came out people were saying 'you can't do journalism in 140 characters,' but it has now become an essential tool.""

Here is the thing - the watch is always with you, even in the shower for some and many sleep with it. Right now 91% of all smartphone users have a smartphone within reach, 07% reply to messages within 4 mins and 19% respond. The watch is basically 100% within reach virtually 100% of the time. It is going to change the rules of engagement in marketing and in the sharing economy!

Andy Bull's insight:
Insight from the post: "This engagement with the community, coupled with new tools and techniques, has divided journalists into two categories: those who engage and experiment, and those who don’t. The latter grew up in a steady world where the news changed, but not necessarily the way that news was reported. The former understands the new rhythm, spending equal parts of their day writing, researching, experimenting, engaging, and tweeting. The former is also the type of candidate Nieman hopes to attract with its visiting fellowship."

Insight from the post: "Ambarish Mitra, the CEO of Blippar, expects that head-mounted devices will become more common in the next three years, but that they’ll mostly be used by businesses, not consumers.
