Cool Tools for 21st Century Learners: A Google Docs Template for Multimedia Research | Multimédia e Tecnologias Interativas | Scoop.it

Once again Susan Oxnevad has created a great tool in Google Docs. This one will elp students with multimedia presentations
"The Google Docs Presentation is well-suited for use as a starting point for short student driven research projects because of the availability of efficient integrated research tools right on the page. To introduce students and teachers to the built in features, I created a simple template to guide the learning and help everyone discover the usefulness of the tool."
The post goes on to share tips on how to use the template, a look at the template, how to access the template and how to make your own.

This infographic looks at both technology and education over the last four decades. Are there connections between these two themes? Take a look and see what was going on in the 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and today. This infographic provides geat depth in these two areas, noting that the:

* 1980's was the Age of Processing, the beginning of the Digital Age and a time when tech was a peripheral tool.

* 1990's was Hardware 2.0, the World Wide Web came into being and a time when tech begins to supplement.

* 2000's was the move to connectivity, to an age of sharing and portable devices and technology supplements instruction.

* Today - Perhaps this is yet to be written but a few years in we see multifunctional devices, personalization and technology as an integrated tool.

What would your students think of this chart? What conversation might arise in faculty meeting or with sharing this with the PTO or other stakeholders in your community? It does provide food for thought.

How the “internet of things” will replace the web

The second in a series. We've already written about why 2014 is really, finally the year that the "internet of things"—that effort to remotely control every object on earth—becomes visible in our everyday lives.

Curation as a tool for teaching and learning

What is curation anyway, and how can it be used as a tool for student and teacher learning? This essay will investigate what curation is and the different contexts it is used in. Why is it important; who are the curators, what motivates them and what makes a great curator? What processes and tools are used for curation and what digital literacies are required for successful curation? It will conclude with an investigation into ways teachers can use curation both with and for their students and as a tool for their own professional learning and a brief look at some curation tools.

The Strength of Simple Videos

The Strength of Simple Videos | Multimédia e Tecnologias Interativas | Scoop.it

"Over the last month I've facilitated a handful of workshops on the topic of video creation in the classroom. One of the points that I always try to stress in those workshops is that the focus of most student video projects should be on developing and delivering clear story lines. Yes, it is great if students use slick transitions and special effects, but those don't mean a thing if the video doesn't have a clear purpose (unless that purpose is to demonstrate editing skills)."

9 Tips Every Teacher should Know about Google Scholar | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Multimédia e Tecnologias Interativas | Scoop.it

Google Scholar is among the best scholarly search engines online yet only a few select of educators know its secrets. As a rule of thumb that applies to all Google products, the effective use of any service from Google s can only be achieved through mastering its deep and hidden features. We have seen in the previous post how filtering a Google search using the keyword " digital literacy " reduced the generated results from 430.000.000 to 90.000.000 which eliminated so much of junk information that could cost you a lot of time going through it. I believe  information literacy is a skill that every teacher should master and teach his/her students about. In this regard and to help teachers leverage the potential of Google services in their teaching , Educational Technology and Mobile Learning has recently started out a series of  illustrative guides that addresse those particular things that educators need to know in order to better manipulate their " Googling" experience.

9 Apps for Creating Multimedia Content

9 Apps for Creating Multimedia Content | Multimédia e Tecnologias Interativas | Scoop.it

Until a few years ago designing an attractive presentation, or any other form of multimedia content, required expert designers. You first had to explain your idea to the designer who would then spend hours in isolation, using complex tools and software, to turn them into reality. Most of the times, however, you would still go away dissatisfied with the final product.

However, this is no more the case thanks to different online tools available freely on the internet. Using these tools, you can create multimedia content in a matter of minutes. You no longer need to explain your brains out to a designer who would still prefer following his own ideas. There’s also no need for any complex applications and prior designing knowledge.
