Connecting Students to Geometry Through Twitter | November Learning | Mrs. Fives Math Class | Scoop.it

Alan and Brian have been working with a cohort in Texas made up of teachers and administrators who are a part of the Texas Association of School Administrators. At a recent event in Austin, high school math teacher, Jessica Caviness, shared a fun implementation of Twitter in her geometry class. We thought it was so great, we simply had to share it. Jessica provided us with a quick write-up explaining her work.

Paying Attention Is a Skill: Schools Need to Teach It

Paying Attention Is a Skill: Schools Need to Teach It | Mrs. Fives Math Class | Scoop.it
There is no doubt that “diminished attention” is a correct diagnosis of the intellectual temperament of our age. I see it to a greater degree each year even in the students I teach, who are among the very best that our high schools have to offer.

Tai Hong's curator insight, May 6, 2013 8:50 AM

As time passes, we learn more about everything, including education. When we know more about how to educate students, they become more capable of exceeding our limits than we are.

alexparrish's curator insight, January 21, 2014 6:59 PM

This article that I scooped was about 8th grade math standards. Some of the things it was talking about were how 47% of the 8th grade was able to take algebra 1 or higher forms of algebra. Another thing it talked about was how adults and teachers are starting to notice this to. One of the ways the adults might have noticed this is that is by the algebra test scores are higher than usual. Or that maybe that if they put out a higher level algebra question just to see where the student is in math. Another way to find out if the students are a higher level of Math, is by putting them through a series of different algebra Questions.
