Building Learning Environments Beyond the App | The New Media Consortium

Building Learning Environments Beyond the App | The New Media Consortium | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it

"Building an educational app is one thing, but if you choose to create a tool or a digital space in which children and young people can learn you really need to be thinking about the context. Beyond creating an app for a mobile device, how many developers and edtech companies look beyond the product itself? How are the creators of these tools supporting teachers, parents and even the self-directed learners (students) to best use what they have created?"

John Pearce's insight:

As an app developer himself, Dan Donahoo @ddonahoo provides a unique insight into the world of app creation and digital learning environments. As Dan writes Toontastic is a great example for other app developers to use as a model for thinking as they wrestle with the notion of being more than just another app creator.

Office for iPhone Is a Design Triumph, but Needs More Features [REVIEW] | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it
Microsoft has done an good job of creating "mini" versions of Office apps for the iPhone's small screen, although they're lean on features.
John Pearce's insight:

Will this be enough to persuade folk back to Office and away from Google Drive though if you are and Office 365 SkyDrive user then this may be enough to keep you there. Either way it's great to see competition in the area which can only be of benefit to we users whichever tack we take.

Create Interactive Images With ThingLink's New iPad App

Create Interactive Images With ThingLink's New iPad App | mrpbps iDevices | Scoop.it

"ThingLink is one of my favorite tools that I’ve reviewed on Free Technology for Teachers. The free service allows you to make any image interactive by adding digital pinmarks to it. Those pinmarks can include text, links, videos that are revealed when some touches those pinmarks while viewing your shared images. The service previously worked in your iPad’s web browser, but now this great service is now available as a free iPad app too."

Via John Evans
John Pearce's insight:

Having used Thinglink via my laptop it is great to see this app iteration albeit that working on the iPhone is rather fidgety, (the iPad experience is much more satisfying).

Even though the iPhone’s camera doesn’t have anywhere near the same features and tools as a DSLR, that doesn’t mean you can’t squeak out some extra performance out of your iPhone to get pictures that look like a pro shot them."
